i really wanna go to this - never seen GNR before, had a couple of near misses with the cancelled london shows! - but i'm really not interested in seeing metallica or anyone else on the download bill so ?115 for a ticket seems a bit much and i can't really afford that.  just really hope they put on some other individual UK shows and i don't miss another chance to see them just cos i don't wanna pay to go to Download!

I too would of loved to of seen them. But it's right in the middle of my GCSE'S. Cant belive it! :crying:But i have faith that they'll do a UK tour. Anyway i'd rather go to somewhere like Sheffield cos atleast you'll be able to see them. At download it's gonna be crazy.

GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose has commented on the band's upcoming appearance at the Download 2006 festival, set to take place June 9-11 at Donington Park in England.

The band will join the already announced METALLICA at the top of the bill for the summer event, which will provide the only U.K. shows for the two groups.

GUNS N' ROSES will take to the stage on the Sunday (June 11), while METALLICA will play the previous night.

The last time Axl Rose and co. graced Donington was in 1988, where they played in front of over 100,000 fans following the release of their seminal album "Appetite for Destruction".

According to NME.com, Rose said of the appearance: "The U.K. and Europe have always been special for me. After our last great shows there, we are all very excited and looking forward to getting back over there and in front of such great audiences."

He added: "Donington has always meant a lot to me personally, way before I ever played there. To be asked to headline is for me an honour and a privilege that none of us take for granted. We look forward to seeing all of you at Download!"

GUNS N' ROSES are expected to showcase new songs from their long-awaited "Chinese Democracy" album, which has been over ten years in the making.

As well as the two confirmed headliners, the bill for Download 2006 now includes KORN, THE PRODIGY, DEFTONES, CLUTCH, TRIVIUM, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, LUCUNA COIL, INME, HATEBREED and WITHIN TEMPTATION.

im in a dilema i dont want to buy a festival ticket just in case GNR announce another show on the FRI or SAT but i dont want to risk not getting a day ticket oh what the fuck to do. what are the possibilities of another UK show being announced ??

Aye, I'm in the same boat as you.  I think I'm going to end up buying weekend tickets but I'll be gutted if they do announce another date in the UK.  I'm not overly keen on the rest of Download's lineup so ?135 just for a ticket is pricy even for GnR!  I will pay it, but if they'd have released the day tickets or GnR announced another UK date, I'd go for either of those options instead.

by train it's best to go to loughborough or derby, download are running a shuttle bus service which they haven't given a price for yet.

personally i'll be heading to nottingham east midlands airport and jumping a taxi shouldn't cost too much as the airport and donnington are quite close to each other.

I live Halifax Nova Scotia Canada, Im thinking about flyin over to the concert, be expensive but wourth it, anyone with any experience with these big festivals could help me out by ballparking how much the cost would be in total for the weekend?

The cost would be whatever a flight is from where you live plus ?142 or $283 canadian dollars, this gets you a weekend ticket plus camping. If you are feeling a bit flash through the download site you can book a hotel, this is very expensive and costs about $2000 I think you do get backstage tickets with this. Once in the uk the taxi from the airport would be relatively inexpensive, I guess about $40 each way. If you are not going to camp you could always stay in a hotel and you could use:

Roughly $120 a night. If you are flying into a main airport i.e. heathrow or Stansted then the nearest airport to donnington is east Midlands.

Anyway I have tickets and hope you make it. I once travelled to vegas from the uk for a show so I know its a huge expense but definetly worth it.

I will be going there for all 3 days  ;D I'm a bit of a lurker here so most of you dont really know i exist but i have been around since '99 , posting very scarcely and reading the board and website just about daily.. so i know most of you. Are you sure about seeing Bon Jovi?  Wembley's not built yet and is severely behind schedule.  Have you checked the gig's still on?  I know some of the football games due to be played there have been transferred to alternative venues.

i'm personally only going the festival to watch gnr and metallica....not really into any of the other bands so i'm hoping they're showing all the world cup games, unlikely though.

I don't think they will put them on sale till the end of april... at least... if they do at all... fingers crossed...

According to the Download site, tickets are selling faster than any previous year, so this may mean there will be less day tickets available as I'm sure there will be some sort of limit of people they can have in the arena.

And Avenged Sevenfold have been added to the bill and are strongly rumoured to be appearing on GN'R Sunday. :beer:

dunno, mate. depends how close you get and how good a view really. advantages obviously to filming the screen but depends whether they have all those unecessary clips of politics and cars and stuff like at leeds.

I dunno if I'll be going either Jim, so fear not.

I've seen GNR and Metallica, but I haven't seen Cocksparrer and Sham69, so the HiTS fest is lookin' good.

I'll try to go though, even if just for the Cathedral day.

im a massive gnr fan i love them i grew up listening to them, but im not going to download, because i am not paying however much it is just 2 c one band i like, and that one band might not even turn up, u cant rely on axl's word!!!

still no word on day tickets guys.  I've been on the message boards for Download and it seems lots of people feel the same way - not everyone is able to go for a full weekend and there is a lot of interest for news on day tickets.  Most think they will be available late april/early may and cost around ?60 per day.

I got a weekend ticket (i panicked!) - its a lot of cash, but its the only time i can see GnR this year, so wasnt going to miss out. not a chance! will post any more news if i find out more.   :peace:

For anyone still hesitating between buying a weekend ticket for Download and waiting for the day tickets, this may be of some use. According to the Download official site forum, you can get 2 for 1 weekend tickets at Ticketmaster if either you or someone you know works for Pedigree Petfoods or Mars. I'm not sure how it works but I guess you have to enter a promotion code or something similar.

Either way we should know about day tickets within the next 3 weeks or so.

Yeah don't see why not, i'm 99% sure that won't be a problem, people go in and out of the site all the time and security are there to check wristbands so they'll still have people there to check for tickers....actually, definately.

Download can get quite crazy, nothing to extreme, but you get an idea by the acts, it's more METAL than Leeds, but it'll be right i'm sure you'll jump in the way and take the glass bottle to the head to protect her :P :hihi:

2 years ago when i was at the second stage they were taking forever setting up the stage for the next act so a massive bottle fight broke out, i think one did last year main stage, i know a fair few were thrown at HIM, it's fairly harmless though, 'Most' of the bottles are plastic...

It's a field basically, one car parks up, and another parks next to it and so on and u have stewards there to guide you into your spots, maybe, can't remember, when my mate was parking up last year i was pissing in the bushes ;)

i went to download last year and going this year too, its great on the nite, theres fairgrounds rides and all that, the best was 40-a-side football it was lethal

I am going to take my son and his mate up to Donnington.  Last time I was there I saw GNR in '88, I got cracked over the head half way through their set by crowd moshing but I refused to be carried out of the crowd.  I'm quite a bit older now but still an avid GNR fan.  Can't wait to see them at Download.  Seriously thinking about going over to Leipzig to see them with Rolling Stones too.  BTW, I'm travelling from Nuneaton so have room for two more passengers if anyone wants a lift.

Urgh...starting to totally stress now!  Ordered my tickets on March 4, no sign yet!  Ticketmaster being a bunch of fuckwits and answers as to why have ranged from 'it's a mystery' (seriously!) to 'it's not our fault, they didn't send them on time' (ok, but why have loads of people who ordered later than me got theirs?) and now I'm getting 'they'll definitely be there 48 hrs before the event'.  Not good enough!  We're setting off Wed morning, they need to be there by then....arrrghhhhh....

FANTASTIC....This was a great concert...It had some really really lows and some really really Highs..
Most of the 1st half of the concert had some techinical difficulties (Sound). Then at one song Axl slipped (Almost fell down) and he gave the middle finger to a roadie. After the song he stopped the concert and the whole group went backstage...The roadies came back to fix the floor or something...At one song maybe YCBM Axl didn't finish the song and the band had to sing to finish it....
Then at another song Tommy threw down his bass and left the show....That happened cause he received a fucking piss bottle...

At these points you could hear mixed audience responses with some booing and bootles on stage...

As i was dissapointed Suddenly MAGIC Happened...Izzy came out...From this point onwards the concert was great. No sound problems, no booing, Axl in great mood singing the songs and generally awesome performance...
Izzy played for like 5-6 songs (Think about you,Patience,Nightrain,Used To Love Her, Paradise City)...Izzy looked very happy...
Sebastian bach did the usual my michelle too...
Not only the above they fucking played 5 new songs (Bettter,Blues,Madagascar,IRS,Chinese Democracy)

Izzy seemed to enjoy it and he even introduced Used to Love her...He was interacting not only with axl but with other bandmembers too ( like tommy)...He seemed to be part of the band , like he never left...At the end he saluted the crowd as part of the band...Even Axl chanted Izzy,Izzy,Izzy and the crowd followed chanting his name too.

The crowd and the group were very very happy and i really believe that it was the best show of the new GNR..A lot of variety,incidents and the longest Show/Setlist so far....+ fucking IZZY ...

I am prety sure this could be the best show of this summer tour...

Got back from Donny today - I've just lived a dream of mine for the past five years, seeing Axl and the band for the first time.? I was, needless to say, blown away!!? ? :peace:

Good setlist, five new songs all sounding completely awesome.? Madagascar gets better with every listen and I heard Better all the way through for the 1st time, that songs kicks ass.? IRS kicked huge butt too, can't wait for the album it's gonna kill.

Let's get a couple of negatives out the way - with this being a festival crowd there were a lot of GN'R n00bs all chanting for Slash, I even heard one say that Slash has a weird beard? ::)? Some idiots were berating Axl, but I ignored them as much as possible and joined in with the "Axl, Axl" chants.? There were also of course the technical issues plagueing Axl (does this happen at every show?!!).? A few people whinged about the interruptions and the jazzy interludes but fuck them, it was all good.? Tommy throwing his bass and it hitting the cameraman was one of the most bizarre things I've ever seem, but I must stress that he took the mic later and apologised, saying he didn't mean to hit the poor bloke.? A few more idiots whinged when Tommy said he'd go home if another bottle touched him but I applauded Tommy.? I also had to endure the shocking BFMV and Funeral for a Friend beforehand; Clutch would've led into GN'R very nicely? :)

They appeared fairly promptly which I was glad about cos I was fucking knackered having stood through the previous 3 bands.? When Axl appeared I screamed my lungs out for about 10 seconds, I couldn't believe I was seeing him.? From them ripping into WTTJ to the end I was totally impressed.? It had it all - tantrums, surprises and above all some fine songs.? The participation in Used To Love her was quite different, but very cool, with Tommy taking the drums for the song!? Izzy coming on blew everyone away (kept the haters happy too!).? All band members played amazingly, Bumblefoot is gonna be a new guitar hero for aspiring kids, I'm sure of that.? This was a truly great show, if it comes out I'll be getting it straight away.? When bucketfan says they played Smoke On The Water, it really was only Izzy pissing about and brain and Tommy joining in.

I could go on but I'll just finish by saying GUNS N FUCKIN ROSES? :yes:

had the best week last week with hammesrsmith and then THIS!  sorry again for not making the meet-up.  I texted anselmo - but maybe his phone died.  Had the good fortune to meet Izzy backstage - hear him strumming a guitar and playing a little Nightrain next to me!  Argh!  He was super nice.  The gig had me gutted and elated all over the place.  Such a rush of emotions.  I honestly thought November rain was stunning and bumblefoot was out of this world -as was Robin - and Richard, and tommy  - oh axl's VOICE!  he looked so energetic dashing about the stage and after all the issues - i thought it was absoutely credit to them as a band that they pulled together and overcame the shit and TRIUMPHED.  it was truely amazing. i shed a tear!  they just blew me away. 

I doubt my pics will be any good - but will load any that are.  the set was amazing - I feel so lucky to have been there. adn the c0ck sucker behind me got his karma after shouting for Slash - and then getting drenched with a bottle of piss from someone right next to him! brilliant!

Did anyone see the text I put up on the screens?  It was during the afternoon, giving a shout out to all you guys!

I also saw some of you people, I'm sure of it.  On the Sun, about an hour or so before the gig, I saw some guys hanging about below the disabled viewing platform - one wearing a htgth tshirt, with short curly hair and glasses.  I was gonna come say hi but I was on the viewing platform and it was getting really busy so didn't want to lose my place!  If that was you, though...did you meet Finck in the crowd?  I saw you talking to someone and having a photo taken with them and it was only when they walked away that I thought 'shit, was that Finck?'.  If so, my rock n roll foot will be in the background of the photo!

As for the gig itself...I nearly fell over when they came on early, wtf!  Seemed strange seeing GnR in full daylight.  The crowd were a bit shitty, but I suppose that's to be expected from a festival crowd and not a pure gunners crowd.  I heard a lot of Axl hating and people slagging off the new band despite saying they'd never heard them...I'll never understand that attitude!  They were just like 'they'll just be crap cos they're not Slash n co'.  Fucksake, why can't people respect them for who they are and not for who they're not.  Slash is gone, people.  Suck it up, listen to VR, don't go hating on a guitarist just cos he ain't Slash.

Was a little concerned with the 'technical difficulties' and thought it could lead to trouble as the crowd were half delirious already from so long in the sun!  I think it was a mark of how much Axl has dedicated himself this time when he kept coming back for more, despite the fuck ups and the negativity.  I'm not sure he'd have put up as much a little while back. 

Thought people were a bit harsh booing Tommy for shouting about getting covered in piss - it's not particularly pleasant and I don't think there's any excuse...if you don't like a band, fuck off.  Nobody's forcing you to listen.  Just go home, don't fuck it up for the rest of us. 

Axl's voice was amazing, much stronger and more stable than in 2002, imho.  The set was good in all and I enjoyed the new band's spin on the classics but I am probably with a lot of people when I say that I'd love to hear a bit more variation in the old songs played.  There's enough of a back catalogue to keep it fresh.  Can't really complain though, I reckon they're doing enough to keep most people happy, I'm just a die hard gunner who's gonna see them a lot and wants a bit more variation :D 

Seb Bach and Izzy, amazing.  I nearly wet myself with excitement :D  I am loving Bumblefoot too, I have a feeling that it was only his solo that saved the gig descending into anarchy after Axl's tantrum.  Finck's amazing too, he's just a really fucking good guitarist with great presence.  I think I'm liking him more now than in 2002...he seems to have gelled more, if that makes sense.

My boyfriend has absolutely no time for GnR as they were and was dreading having to see them.  However, he was blown away by the new band, he loves Bumblefoot and Finck and rates them above Slash and Izzy, even.  He is even now looking forward to Chinese Democracy as he was well impressed with the new songs!

Urgh, I can see my foot!  Gutted!  Biggest regret of the weekend!  Woulda been nice to meet you guys and Finck.  I'd been waiting on front row of the disabled platform for fucking hours though, sitting through some shitty bands to keep my place!

Were you near those guys who kept shouting Slash?  I got talking to a couple of lassies and we were worried Axl was just gonna walk of the stage.  I was with the guy with the hippy dreads and shades.  I didn't go there with him but he looked after me.  Mind you he kept hitting on me the whole show.  I told him to behave himself I'm old enough to be his mother!  Mind you, nice moment during Patience, these young kids all sort of put their arms over eachothers shoulders (including mine) and we all sang along at the top of our voices.  I could hear a girl singing along even with all the new songs, I was relieved someone else was singing along as well (I cant sing for shit!

I went and had the best time of my life! I thought that Axl did a great show even with all the sh!t that some ppl threw at him. I was getting a bit annoyed at some of the ppl who were moaning because Axl went of 4 about 5 minutes so that the piss on the stage could be cleared up n he was having probs with the microphone.

I was near the assholes shouting out slash n i couldnt understand why they couldnt just get up n leave if they hated the show that much, instead of stand there n hurl abuse at Axl. I was probably the girl who was singing to every single song because i enjoyed it so much! I made a banner aswell if any one saw it? Im really sorry if it obstructed anyones view but I only held it up at the end of each song so not to annoy any one too much. I was wearing sunglasses, purple hat n a red GnR top.

On kerrang radio a recap of download no live music but interviews if anything about gnr is on it will be in the last 3rd of the show so around the 840 900 mark i have already heard axls voice briefly.

Wahay I was on TV last night, they showed me 3 times during paradise city on the download fest coverage on channel 4! Reliving the experience all over again...? ;D

kerrang slaughtered it aswell but firstly, who the fuck are kerrang and secondly all magazines just wanted to give them a bad review, just like most people in the crowd at donnington wanted to see a riot over a performance.

I thought kerrang organised the festival and booked the bands anyway?

They just sponsored the event.

Hi I am a newbie on this and just noticed this thread - I went to Donnington and it was brilliant, GnR were brilliant, that picture is really good.  I didnt see any of the trouble after, we went after the show but I heard it was pretty bad, all the village area went up apparently.

Axl was very much the great showman that he's always been.  It certainly was a fab weekend.
