Title: Silkworms
Post by: jmv_cure on January 12, 2003, 02:59:36 PM
 Hey,
I listened to this song a few times again yesterday and I think that musically the song has a lot of potential. I really do not like the lyrics and wish Axl would re-write them. However, I do like the pace and beat of the song. What do you people think? Bury the song, Keep the song, or re-write the lyrics.

To me Silkworms sounds like a rap-rock song. I don't like it too much. I saw them play it live once and there's one jam where the three guitars sound really good (almost like the swirling guitars effect at the end of Paradise City) but the song part (e.g., melody and lyrics) doesn't do much for me.

I love Silkworms. Like I said before a few times on the board I got into bands like NiN, White Zombie, Ministry etc. since GnR left the scene.

The lyrics are highly amusing and the music itself is cool w/out being cheesy. I hope I get to hear a studio version of it someday.

yeah, as I mentioned in the silkworms thread started a couple of days ago ( :P to the person who started this), people need to realise that silkworms isn't a serious song

I find it quite funny  [hihi]

I like Silkworms and I love the part " Listen motherfuckers" and " What can I do? With a bitch like you". I think the song might need a little work but, I don't think we see it on the album.  :'( I wish it would make it because I think it can be a better song than what a lot of people think it is now.  :)

 Hey,
I know there was a thread about silkworms a few days back, but, the point of this thread was that I don't think the lyrics are that great. I wanted to know if people think the song should stay as is or re-work the lyrics. Cuz, musically I like the beat and pace of the song.

Silkworms is like "my world" part 2. When they played it at Rio,it sounded like a demo, not even, don't like the lyrics...Axl can do better than that.If that songs makes it on any of the albums, it would be one of the worst tracks, not that is bad but lots of songs will be better.

To me Silkworms sounds like a rap-rock song.
That's precisely what it is.  Axl is not Run DMC, so he should leave rap and rock separate.

The song is ok at best. But it doesnt belong on a GNR album. If dizzy were to ever realise a solo album that would be a good home for it. I think the bad lyrics, and too much rap-rock will take away from GnR and put themselfs on the same level as Limp Bizkit

I don' like Silkworms. Nor the music, vocals nor melody...

It's the worst new GNR song. I'd get rid off it.

I see the potential that you speak of, however when they played it live it did not sound good.  It sounded out of sync and messy.  If it was to make the record (if it is ever released) I would be interested in what it might sound like.  Hopefully, they could do some work to it.

First of all its written by Reed/Pittman and if it is relesed on Chinese Democracy it will be like My World on UY2

I love the song. The vegas version I listen to you can hear all the effects in the beginning and Axls voice has more punch than the rio version.  I think its a coll song. Nothing to get your panties all wet in terms of all time classics but a cool rocker.

How can you say its a rap/rock song? Its more of a new type of punk sound. Where is the rap?

The drum intro is cool and buckets shredding is cool. THe song is awesome. The lyrics are funny too. Not every song has to be a lyrical masterpiece. Gnr have always had songs that have grimy ass lyrics and along with the classics.

I think the lyrics are a masterpiece...thrown down in the gutter it's more than you desereve...pussy full of maggots isn't that a shock :hihi:

More of I used to lover II than My World  ;D

I think the song has a lot of potential but verses/choruses/bridges/whatever weren't linked well with what we've heard to date.

The music is okay - but the lyrics are dire.

I would hope this song wouldn't make it onto the album

I think the song was in the early writing stages when Axl said fuck it let's play it.....I think if it turns up on the album it will be more complete and have great potential to be a very good song.

On a side note,I have heard vegas and Rio3 version's and at this time I don't dig it to much. :smoking:

I love the song. It's what would happen if Prodigy had written 'Get in the Ring'   I love the aggressive-techno vibe it has, and is a nice change of pace.

:rant:Listen mother fuckers to this song that should be heard
Back down in the gutters, it?s more than you deserve
Screaming fucking banshee, you know that's what you are
Pussy full of maggots, isn't that a shock :o

Rockin Scherzo :hihi:?I find the vocal part amusing. But the music as a whole  :-\somehow doesn?t go an all-out fucker. (<--doesn?t make sense, I know) Also the percussion/bass section is too weak/light?

I second this. I want to hear improved version.

Yes and I think it?s more like post-punk.  I strongly recommend PIL (Public Image limited), e.g. ?Flowers of romance? ?Happy?? as relevant reference. Try samples and you will see what I mean.

silkworms sucked at rio. I like the arrangements but I didn't like Axl's live voice on that one. Silkworms will be awesome tho with axl's screeching voice me thinks.

I like the song alot. Axl's voice was a little weak on it, but it has agression and it kicks ass. I'm sick of all those mid tempo/ ballad type songs. I want some headbang  :smoking:

I like it, the lyrics are not that great, but the songs really rocks.  I espacially like the intro, it has something 'dark'!

It doesn't have to be on CD, but I would like an official release of somekind though! : ok:

I like the song a lot but its too short.

Agreed.

And I hear no rap.. AT ALL. Its very much punkish.

Alot of you complain about songs like "Better" "TWAT" ect... not having the old "GNR edge"... well this is a potiental song.

I love it

Man, this is just one ugly song. Where is the melody? You just can't write a song based on a few sound effects like this. Start with the piano or acoustic guitar and  come up with the melody - all the effects should get added at the end. This song is amateurish, like some kid sitting at home with his PC.
