WCCC just played it (IRS) again (around 6 PM) and took calls on reactions.

They were mostly not so nice.  Couple of positives.  The most common complaint was the mix on Axl's voice.  Picozzi (the DJ) pointed out he doubted it was the final mix.

Personally, I like it.

I just called up Iron Mike and he said they did play it... But the record company called them and told them not to  ;D... He said the track had a good groove but it was still a rough cut.. Spounded pretty positive about it though, which is cool... Of course i acted dumb like i havent heard it, to get his unbiased opinion of it!!

Did anyone else listen to 92.3 in NYC tonight?  They played a short clip of a new song (they didn't say what it is called) with the rest to come before 11pm tonight.  It started off kinda slow with a few Axl vocals.

I understand that. ?Its a talk show called the Booker Show which talks about sports, girls and other guy stuff. ?They came back from break with You Could Be Mine, played a short clip of the new song, went on to make fun of it then played clips of old GN'R to show how cool they used to be. ?I cant guarantee they will play it but i know what I heard.

Honestly, it is not good when it gets to the radio stations and is 4 years old with drum machine beats. The song is good but is clearly not going to be the final version. We don't even know if it is on the album. It is good for us fans to get something like this, but it can be detrimental to the band if the song doesn't make the album or is not even going to be a single. If I had been away for such a long time, I would not want that to be my coming out party. Then again, Axl is his own worst enemy. Too long is too long. He has talked about an album since 1997. If he wants to cut this shit off, take your best cut and send it out to radio within the next month. No promotion no advance warning...just send it out and let it fly. That is all the promotion it will need. New quality Gnr will shut the majority of people up.

Wow, sounds like its really gotten out there......anyone know what the general consensus has been? So far from what I've gathered:

Stern thought it was ok (but didn't know it was demo)
and Booker made fun of it (as if they even play music on Krock anymore, which isn't bad b/c all they ever played was RHCP and the Strokes - like every ten minutes...no exaggeration-----ok, maybe a little one).

WCCC-FM in Hartford played IRS 3 times today and even had a Q&A with the fans and DJ.

Most of the listeners they questioned couldn't get over the fact that slash was gone and the changes in the sound of the band, but 2/3 DJs liked it alot.

Typical Booker stealing Stern he already did it earlier today. Ok now I'm thinking again, is there a possibility that IRS is the first single, and the waters are now being tested by allowing some of the nations top radio announcers to play the track.

Howard didn't accuse him of lip-synching, one of his guests did that was in the studio:

Quote
More Various Stuff. 12/6/02. 8:35am

Howard said he read that the Guns 'N Roses concert was great last night in the city. Stuttering John came in and said that Doug from E! was at the concert and he had some interesting stuff to say about it. Doug came in and said that he thought Axl Rose was lip syncing during the concert. He also said that Axl showed up late and the second opening act, which was a DJ, sucked. Howard and the guys spent a few minutes talking about that.

The reason radio stations are playing it is because people are sending the demos to radio stations. It has nothing to do with GNR. Our community is the reason why its being played.

I agree, he simply played dumb to highlight his opinion of their irrelevance.

If you listened to his interview with Velvet Revolver from a year or so ago, Howard thought that Slash/Duff/Matt fired Axl and hired Scott Weiland. They had to correct him and say that they left Axl.

So I don't think Howard intentionally dissed them, he's just misinformed.

I actually tried to call but couldnt get through. Then they played about 3 shitty songs in a row, and I had to get out of my car.
I listened all day and there was only a small mention of it. Of course she bashed it without even hearing it.

i turned it on halfway through... did Booker say anything before he played it?

what did the other stations (CT) DJs have to say about it?

i'm curious what the reaction was besides Stern...

KXXR (93x) in Minnepolis just played both songs.  The DJ's Loved them, but they made fun of the intro to Better and the lyrics to IRS.  They said that maybe if Axl wasn't calling so many people (in the lyrics to IRS) he'd have more time to finish the album.  It really made me laugh.

Absofuckinglutely.

If anyone on this forum wondered how much promotion CD would need...you now have your answer.

A leak playing on radio stations all across the continent in a MATTER OF HOURS.

Promotion?? Promotion?

CD isn't going to need it.? It's going to get so much publicity, it'll promote itself.? .

Drop a single...a real, official single...out of the blue and Axl would be done.? Promotion over.

Edit: Changed country to continent courtesy of my friend Nemo's correction. :)

97.5 "the hawk" in philadelphia.

this was interesting because they are a classic rock station who never plays gnr. which lends even more credence to the point pilferk just made about promotion.

they played it on their morning show today around 8:30. they spent a good 20 minutes talking about the songs, the new lineup, etc.  they were totally clueless about who was/is in the band and what's been going on. they even took a bunch of phone calls to discuss.

their morning guys are annoying....the two main guys call themselves "free beer" and "hot wings". they were critical of the fact that axl is calling this band gnr, and said people won't be fooled if CD is ever released. they said the general public will want to know where slash is.

but they gave the clips a fair listen and had a positive opinion of them overall.

I think this is a serious PR issue....the general public REALLY doesn't know much about GNR....my buds and I went to the MSG show in 2002 and I had to explain to them who buckethead was etc.....they LOVE AFD and the big UYI songs but just aren't that into the band to follow them the way most of here seem to.  Of course, everyone loved the show, but i must have heard, "its not the same without slash" a MILLION times from my friends.

Great concert btw.

93x in Minneapolis is apparently going to play the full I.R.S demo between Noon and 1pm  They also played bits of both leaked demos earlier today.  They are a station that received a "cease and desist" order from Tool management for playing a song from Lateralus before it was released  so they have a history of being naughty  : ok:

Chez 106.9 in Ottawa, Canada played pieces of both clips this morning, took callers, gave their opinions on them. The general consensus from the callers was that Better had "potential" and that IRS had "good guitar work", the DJ's were pretty clueless about Gn'r though.... the DJs were cool about the fact that the clips were demos though, and said, "I don't want to play the clips in full because they're internet-quality, and you'll hear them the way they were meant to be heard once the CD comes out" or something of that nature.
I was impressed that they even played it really, they rarely play Gn'r. But it was cool.

Better is a terrific song. It doesn't blow. A critic can say that it doesn't do anything for them b/c of the mix, the guitars, the vocasl.... but he dismisses the song without explanation. lame.

Not sure if this is new news.  This is my first time posting.  None of you will believe me if it is new but here goes.  Listening to 99.1 WPLR this morning on way to work.  DJs highlight GNR preview tune 'IRS' and play a sampling of it.  I heard some.  Some they talked over (I couldn't believe they didn't just pipe down).  Anyways, good song from what I heard.  Axl has high voice, medium tempo tune.  Sounded like an electric acoustic guitar to start up and electronic drum beat - sounded bubbly to me.  Anyway, has great rythem.  Axl did sound really good...All in all, it sounded better than I would have expected.  Only legibly heard a few lyrics 'Gonna call the IRS, Gonna call the FBI'...Again DJs were talking over it.  If this is news, call 99.1 WPLR in CT for verification.  Anyways, it was fun to hear.  Hopefully, I will post more often and look forward to your comments.

I rarely listen to the radio anymore.  Does anyone know if IRS is still being played by the stations that were playing it yesterday?  Has there been an C&D issued from management or the label to the radio stations that were playing it?  It seems odd, because last time when it got played on the Eddie Trunk show they received a C&D within minutes of playing it and never played it again.

Well, it should be better once it is produced and mixed.? IRS and Better have potential.? IRS really grows upon one, the more one hears it.

I go to Penn State University and while driving home on Friday night just outside of State College PA I heard IRS on 98.7 QuickRock...The guy who broadcast it said "Well there it is...and I don't know what to say. I feel like after 10 years I should listen to that song and it should blow my face off, I should be sitting here faceless. But it didn't. I'm not going to give it a thumbs up, but I'm not going to give it a thumbs down...I give it a thumbs in the middle."

Just thought it was interesting :)

Did he mention that it was an un-mixed, un-finished demo?
Newsman, I thought you said this stuff was taking over the radio industry?? You created 10 threads claiming that fact.

Pure rubbish.  I did not create ten posts saying that, and will not be baited into one of your arguments.

Nothing on the radio today compares to TWAT and Better, I like IRS too, but its #3 behind those 2, but its still good as hell.
