2005 "Love All, Serve All" Award to Velvet Revolver

Rockers came to the rescue a lot this year--in part, unfortunately, because there was a lot to rescue.  For his efforts on behalf of African debt, Bono was nominated for the Nobel Prize.  For his efforts on behalf African famine, Bob Geldof has already been knighted, while garnering a ne set of laurels for Live8.  And in the spirit of the Hard Rock motto--"Love All, Serve All"--we applaud them both, as well as the thousands of of other musicians around the world who lend their time, money, and names to good causes.  But right now we would like to honor one group of musicians who worked tirelesly in 2005 to help hard Rock live up to its motto and who served as the engine for some our most critical philanthropic endeavors.  At the drop of a tophat, they showed up at Hard Rock Live in Orlando to perform at the most effective benefit concert ever held in a Hard Rock--netting more than $250,000 for the Red Cross's Hurricane Katrina relief.  And just a few months later they showed up at our new flagship Cafe in New York to raise more than $100,000 for Peace Games, and innovative, anti-violence program for schoolkids.  The causes were great--and so, by the way, were their shows--and it seems only fitting that the first annual "Love All, Serve All" goes to the bad-boy supergroup that, for many vicitms of disaster and violence, proved to be truly good guys.
