Title: Guns n' Roses-Rolling Stones comparison
Post by: Minneapolisnewsman on February 19, 2006, 09:56:22 AM
I've been reading these boards voraciously over the past 72 hours (drinking tons of coffee, Monster, and Red Bull--with the occasional dash of Absolut), and have noticed many of you get very concerned by a little criticism from DJ's, and the general public.?

Like the great Rolling Stones before them, GNR became so big at one point that Slash and Axl have become like Jaggar and Richards--almost caricatures of themselves.? Their own cartoon character, in a sense.? Like the Stones, when stars have such unique, recongnizable personalities and confidence, it is easy for the DJ's to go after them.? First, everyone knows who they are talking about (unlike the name of Linkin Parks guitarist--whatever his name is??)--which makes their material better and appealing to a larger audience.? In addition, it's because they actually like these guy's.? It's not only the name GNR, it's the whole circus that comes with this band.? GNR has a sardonic, vitriolic nature about them, that makes having a laugh at their expense sometimes kind of like a complement.? You know, they give Axl shit about procrastinating, but at the same time we all procrastinate.? It's better to be talked about than not, and you know like Jaggar and Richards, it's easy to laugh at them.? ?We've been hearing about the Keith Richards diet forever, and how Mick likes to go both way's, but everyone still loves the Stones (like 1.6 million Brazialians saw them last night in Rio, biggest show ever I think)!!  In the end, if the material continues to rock, they'll be talked about.

OT, a little, if GNR could open a few shows for the Stones this summer (like 70K stadium shows), it would be a smart, great way to get back in front of people.  Also, doing on-stage duets with the Stones is alway's a good thing!

I agree with you that even critisism is better than not to be noticed at all, but I guess a lot of us have waited for so long, that we take criticism a little too serious. We all have our fingers crossed that GNR will be accepted by the wider audience, sell out stadiums, we all want the new Guns to succeed. So I guess it's only natural that everybody is a bit sqeemish about negative comments.

GN'R and the Stones are a gr8 combo. They performed Salt of the Earth excellently, despite Axl totally outsang Jagger  :P

GN'R is no comparison to the Rolling Stones (the greatest show on earth).
