I just got back from a record store in Adamstown, PA and the owner claimed that, through his direct dealings with order processing, March would be the bearer of Chinese Democracy.  Not realizing that any tracks leaked, he mentioned that he heard rumor from the same source that there would be "new marketing techniques" initiated per Axl's request.

He's just saying what Slash has been saying, I doubt that he knows for sure.  I wonder what those new marketing techniques are, if there are any.

Everyone selling the album has to dress up as Buckethead and speak through a hand puppet.

It's smart. Look at the 'buzz' its starting to create, and you are not losing any material from the finished product as you are only leaking DEMOS...

Yeah I think it's great speculation - ?I was picking up an old Bootleg Album (.44 Caliber Horticulture) and he started talking about it.. It was all volunteer info on his part and he didn't know about the leaks when I told him. ?Thats why I though that the new marketing techniques might have something to do with the leaks.

Well, if he dealt with the direct ordering process, that gives us hope.  I missed that part.

it'd be great if it was coming out next month but everyday that passes without an announcement makes it more and more unlikely.

I'll take it when I can get it.. I think so many people just want to hear it that it'd sell even without promotion.. but the leaks sparked all of this interest just on the boards.. imagine the rest of the fans..

We've kind of heard rumors before that the album would be marketed in a different kind of way. And really, it has to be marketed in a new type of way because this is an album that is very different from most in that it has been in production for over 10 years and pretty much every music fan has heard about it at some point or another.

The optimist in me wants to believe that these leaks are the start of the marketing campaign to use the internet and the leaks of songs to the advantage of the artist. From comments in concert and such, Axl seems to be interested in the power of the internet and understands that leaks will occur no matter what, so it wouldn't surprise me if he has developed some plan to use the internet to market the cd. It might be an idea to put a bunch of demo versions of songs out there so that people get a taste of the songs and want the clean versions so they will buy the cd, this also could work to frustrate people trying to use p2p flie programs in that if there are a ton of demo versions of TWAT on there, then people will just give up and buy the cd rather than searching for the real cd version.

I think we will probably find out in the coming week what is going on in the gnr camp, if they make more moves towards a cd release than that is strong evidence that these leaks were the start of the marketing campaign, if they release a statement that the leaks are illegal etc. and that cd is not finished than these leaks had nothing to do with a marketing strategy.

Sounds like Axl is using the music industry's weakness to his advantage. ?Axl has kept the "demos" of songs from leaking for a decade.(except for IRS) ?Why would they suddenly just leak out now? ?It could've been planned, only time will tell.

I've mentioned it on other boards, so I'll bring it up here as well.

There is always another possibility.

Axl shows up (as rumoured) to that bar in NYC at 4 am, and bribes them with playing C.D.

The club owners (or other employees) play D.J.

Hit record.

It's as simple as that. Now, I'm not saying it's actually what happened, I'm just saying that this is a distinct possibility.

Then again, this could just be Uncle Axl using the media to benefit himself.

If that's the case, he's alot cooler than I thought, and that's saying alot.

but its only the hradcore fans that are gonna download it from the forums, its not us that he needs to promote the record too, its the general public that he has to promote it too so leaking it like this isnt of any value to him

PR and Marketing for a good sized record chain have no final information about a release date at this time.  The CD is not listed in their order system.  If it's not listed there, NOBODY is ordering stock yet, I promise you.

That comes directly from someone who works there.

Noone will get such info until Axl announces the record...

Except for the fact that the leaks are being played on the radio, to anyone within listening range of the stations playing them, and nothing has been done about it (as far as we know).

One of that techniques is payin' Slash to promote the album release and another get too much attenition from leak his own work to be discuss all over the Internet. he he

come one people, i've heard dozens of record store managers claim that CD is coming soon.

I don't think it will be out in March. Sure it's not too late logisticly but it just seems too late for my liking. I'm sure we'd know something sooner if it was coming out in March. It's only a couple of weeks ago.

The way it will work is DEMOS will be released to radio and video.More than likely it will be about a 2 minute demo looped to 4 minutes.That's plenty of time to decide if you like the song or not.The only way to get the full length studio recording will be by buying mp3's from itunes and other sites like that.The mp3's will have restrictions where it can't be shared thus keeping studio recordings from being downloaded for free.This is the future of distibuting music in the age of piracy.

There is no provision in MP3 for DRM.  And it's one of the weaker formats anyway.   I'm sure we'll see it on iTunes though.

The only possibility to release CD in march is to release it on the web. Yeah, no need to send to the factorys or stocks, when it can be leaked before the actual release.

But this would be only possibile if he indeed wants to make a surprise release, of course. I don't really think this is gonna be the case.

In a perfect world it would be out March 28... actually in a perfect world we would have had it within a few weeks after they would have showed up in Philly... clearly not a perfect world
