I still have my original (and only) AFD cd I bought in 1988..or was it '89... It was the first cd I ever bought.. I didn't even have a cd player to play it on!  I take good care of my stuff  ;D  If there are different editions, which I'm sure there will be ($$$$$) I may buy them, but I'm not going to buy the same cd over and over...Axl's gotten enough of my money over the years

I wouldn't want it done that way.  I want to know how many people are buying the album, not having to divide by 2.   If the album fails it fails, I persoanlly don't care as long as it's good and I can buy it in the store.

1. For my personal stereo where I listen to music the most.
2. If I am going to someone's house for a party or what not,I can bring this copy
3. To keep sealed...I have been waiting for this album for so long now,with it sealed stored away,I can think hey,it finally came out,and I have more than one copy.

I wouldn't do that just to get sales up there. But I am a collector so i will buy two . Save one and wear out the other.

i remember that for diana, more like nutso people that wanted that like it was a collector's item.. I don't see cd in that same manor.. if the album is good you'll be able to find it for a lifetime under the gnr name on any shelf, but with elton that was a one time deal.

Over the years we've all said "If this album ever comes out I'm going to buy x copies." Well, how many, honestly, will you buy? I'm personally going to buy at least 12 and will give all but one away. I'll probably give some away through my website as well. So how about you guys, will you just buy 1, or will you buy multiple copies?

It depends on these "multiple versions". I'll buy at least one of every version, maybe two of each, one to open, one to keep sealed, depending on what they have on them. I'll prolly buy every vinyl version as well. This damn album is gonna cost me $200...

There are already three friends I have in mind that I plan to mail CDs to.  We grew up adoring GNR fanatics and they have all since moved out of state.  We've touched base now and again, and the subject of Axl's most recent exploits never fails to be discussed.  I think it'd be a nice sentimental token to acknowledge the old days.

As for myself, there are very few records that I'd so graciously offer my wallet to when it comes to "deluxe", "expanded", or "special editions."; this will undoubtedly be one of them.  Certainly one of each configuration.  After that, we'll see...My wife is as insane a fan as I, and there are indeed faint rumblings of a potential turntable purchase to commemorate the grand event.     

It all depends on if it comes out on vinyl.

One to have around just in case something happens to my primary copy.

I'm definitley getting a copy of the reissue of 'Appetite' vinyl and atleast 2 copies of 'Chinese Democracy.'  We'll have to see what the deal is with the different versions.  If all of us fanatical board members but a few copies, this really could help bump the sales up a bit.

I've been thinking about that pre-order thing. I believe I may pre-order all 3 vinyl and then just buy the 3 CDs when I get to Best Buy on release day. That way I'm assured of getting both.

I accidently ordered 2 of Vinyl Cover A, in addition to all of the other vinyls.  At this point, I'll take the extra!  I'm afraid if I try to change it, it'll bounce my order out and cancel the whole damn thing.

I just tried calling the number above. The customer service rep said that she didn't have access to anything but she knew a guy from corporate was handling the situation and they he'd be calling me back tomorrow about it.

I will buy one copy and make any additional ones I need for my car as a backup (which is legal) If they offer a special box set or one with other demos I will go for that version.  If both CD's are exactly the same just different art work I will just buy the one I like the most.

Bought 40 at Best Buy today (25 of which will be for a radio giveaway tomorrow), have 3 on pre-order (need to pick them up from the store still) and have 3 more coming in the mail. i bought 20 copies so i could give them away as gifts.  also, i like to have a copy or two around for when my friends make fun of gnr.  then i can just hand them the cd and say have alisten before you talk a bunch of shit because you dont even know who's in the band so how can you have an unbiased opinion?

Is that true? I thought the quality would be the same?

Well my understanding is that iTunes sells 128 kbps quality digital files...
When you rip them yourself you can do so at any rate you want up to 320 kbps, which sounds way better and much closer to disc quality...
You can even copy it into a totally lossless format.


Or am I wrong, and are i-Tunes selling better quality downloads now?
Even if though, you can rip your own store-bought disc yourself to whatever quality iTunes might be selling it at, so I'd rather spend my money on a t-shirt or whatever.

when I was in the store, all the GNR fans (including myself) went right to the rack with the BestBuy flyers in it to grab them as souvenirs.

One other thing I'd like to note is that from the very first pre-order that I placed (the one that was taken down within a half hour), up to and including when I picked up my order in the store, the customer reps/sales people at BestBuy went way out of their way to make sure I was happy with my shopping experience with them.  When I placed that first pre-order, they had six versions listed ... Cover A (cd + vinyl), Cover B (cd + vinyl), Cover C (cd + vinyl).  As each of the B & C covers were cancelled, they gave me FREE coupons there were worth MORE than what I would have paid if those versions actually existed!!!  And at the store today, the store peoples went out of their way to make sure everything went smoothly.  : ok:

And you're right, after taxes it came to just over $500. You'd be surprised, but 40 copies fit nicely into a little hand basket (Best Buy has them at the front of their store). They also all fit into one large plastic bag (which kind of surprised me as well).

Today I recieved my 7th and 8th copy of Chinese Democracy. Bought the cd from a record store a day before it came out, already had pre ordered from jb hifi, itunes and hmv uk. Bought 2 LP's, 1 to listen to and 1 to frame with the Better 7" I got with the HMV uk pre order. And today I got 2 copies of the box. 1 to use and 1 to keep.

I thought that was gunna be it until Axl comfirmed there will be another cover or 2 coming out soon. So That will take me to at least 10.

At first I bought 3 cd's and 2 vinals, have since purchased 5 more cd's and one more vinal as gifts.  One copy for each vehicle driven, one copy to be left unopened with vinal for framing, 1 as gift to my brother, will probably pick up a couple more discs just to have on hand, then I should be good to go lol.  Also purchased a new turntable and bose headphones for my listening pleasure on vinal, if that didn't take me back a ways wow!! sounded so damn good :yes: 8)

Its a CD...a very good one and one that all of us waited a long time for, but the concept of buying more than 1 CD per person is bizarre and scary.....and a tad embarrassing.

I just bought 5 more,(total of 30). They are having a TWILIGHT convention in Rosemont with some of the stars from the movie. I am going to give them copies of the CD and tell them to listen to THIS I LOVE! The TWILIGHT sequel NEW MOON starts filming in March. I still think TIL is OSCAR worthy!

Even if there is a re-release with new art work, I don't personally see that as a worthwhile reason to buy additional copies. I almost bought the vinyl at a couple of stores, but each time the sleeves had some pretty nice dings and creases.


I have been in the market for a SHM-CD of both AFD, and Lies. If anyone has any info on these particular SHM-CDs (sound quality, best place for costs, etc.), I'd be interested to hear via PM.

I didn't realize buying & distributing 30 copies of an album makes you that much more of a fan. I think most would think this type of scenario is just a tad extreme, or just outright mad. Especially, if you are a grown adult with real life responsibilities.

I'm glad Axl was finally able to release the album that he wanted, but I guess I just don't feel obligated to buy mass copies or promote it, especially considering those who did have that responsibility didn't care to do so.

Well...as much as I love this band, I understand what -Rob- says. To me, buying 33 copies goes beyond fanhood. I feel that's, well, kinda extreme and borderline creepy  :hihi:

But then again, it's cool for the band and there will never be enough support for the Nu Guns from the fans.  : ok:

As a matter of fact, I will probably buy the collector's edition now that it's available for cheap and since CD has become my favourite album ever...

And that's all I was trying to get at before being bamboozled for accidentally mentioning something that wasn't even the point.

I didn't buy more than 1 copy for myself. I didn't call into the radio stations requesting anything. I didn't preach the word on the street corner. And I don't bash those who didn't play on the album. But ...

I did attend multiple shows in 92, 2002, and 2006. If they ever tour again, I'll be sure to go and catch some of those shows too. I do own copies of all their albums, and I have bought in the ballpark of 7-10k worth of memorabilia throughout the years.

So, based on things I have and haven't done, I guess I would be considered a "semi-real" fan.  :hihi:

Can I help it if I have alot of friends that I want to share this great masterpiece with? It's not like I bought 3000.  I also gave out Hello Kitty Mac makeup to friends as well. I just want to add a little joy to the world, and support the economy. I've said before, in my world the thing I am most teased about is being a GNR fan. :hihi:

I just don't get the logic behind having that much copies. However, giving copies of such a great album is a great thing to do. I would probably do it too if I had the funds.

looks like i have to buy another copy sinse it was in my car when my fuckin car got stolen! when i got my car back cd wasnt in there, nether was my $3000. system. god i love living in los angeles. i gotta buy about a 100 cds that were in a book. good times! i hope they enjoy chinese democracy & my spare tire!

thanks annie, i could have been worse. i could have been car jacked or even worse. i almost went outside the exact time they were stealing it because i left my medicine in the car. luckily laziness was agood thing for once. ha,ha. now im just trying to rebuy my cds a little at a time.

Well, if I could afford it, I'd buy as many as I could and distribute them freely!  As it is, though, I have bought two.  My first one got stolen.  Seems someone somewhere besides here wants to listen to it, since I've read that another one was stolen, too!  I do listen to it in my classroom, and will do so again when this school year starts, so my students can actually hear some good music, and I listen to it all the time with my windows down.  I just know one day someone will ask what it is, and I can share!!

just got my car back from the repair shop. i already want to pull the stock stereo out! ha, ha. now i'll go to best buy & re-buy cd. then i think its off to the stereo shop so everyone in a 3 block radus can here cd too. probably why my car got stolen in the 1st place. btw, alarms dont work!!
