Title: Discuss the direction GnR appears to be heading Post by: ShotgunBlues1978 on February 17, 2006, 04:14:10 PM I'm impressed with the direction that the band is heading based on the new material I've heard, combining the 2002 shows with the clip of "Better" that was released yesterday and IRS. GnR has always been about pushing boundaries and standing out from the crowd. There's never been a band quite like GnR. These new songs are like nothing that's being released nowadays and they have a very unique sound to them. I know that there will inevitably be some fans who yearn for the old days or the old sound, but they already did AFD and UYI, I would rather the band's sound continue to evolve than become stagnant. The new songs are fresh and ambitious.
One issue I had with Contraband. I like the album, it's a good hard rock album with some very good songs on it, but it was too safe. They didn't push any boundaries or try anything different on it. They made a good album that I still listen to on occasion. The more I new material I hear, the more I believe Axl Rose was the driving force behind GnR's push the envelope nature. The new Guns songs still stand out from the crowd, even if you don't like them you have to admit they don't sound like anything else out there today. After that "Better" clip I'm more excited about the new album than ever before. I really can't wait to hear the studio version of "The Blues" Title: Re: Discuss the direction GnR appears to be heading Post by: Axlfreek on February 17, 2006, 04:35:22 PM in an interview with kurt loder back in 99' he said that the new band re-recorded AFD. im interested to see how there new sound fits with the re-recording. givin we will never know, but its still interesting to think about.

But, once the music gets going (on both songs) they sound like Tool or Nine Inch Nails or something like that. They sound great though. But based on a short demo and one fuller track I have no idea... ?Something like maddy or the blues could have been illusion's material......

I agree that "The Blues" sounds like an evolved version of an Illusions ballad. "Madagascar" sounds quite different than anything on there to me. The new songs we've heard cross a wide range of styles, which I also like. |
