Title: Who is playing lead on IRS?
Post by: Smoking Guns on February 16, 2006, 09:00:05 PM
It sounds so much like Zakk Wylde.  Its not that crazy like Bucket.  Could it be Fortus?

It sounds so much like Zakk Wylde.

You think so? It doesn't have any harmonic squeals in there... :hihi:

I think it sounds kind of like Zakk, just didn't seem as hard core as Bucket would play. ?There are times too when it doesn't sound that "clean/technical." ?I guess what I am saying is that I like the solo, but you don't have to be Buckethead to play it. ?Its right up Zakk's alley. ?I know it is not Zakk, but doesn't really scream bucket either. ?

Its robin

the first solo is, but the second one has got to be BH - I dont think Robin can play like that (even though Im sure he doesnt want to)

God, it sounds exactly like Zakk's playing and the bad part is that I know it is not Zakk. ?Playing like Zakk is a good think because he has attitude. ?If it is Fortus, I am very happy. ?But since everyone says it is Bucket, I am impressed with Bucket here, but, sad that he is no longer in the band. ?

Finally, thank you, someone hears what I am hearing! ?Zakk is the man, imo, Axl should go for to fill those shoes. ?Zakk would never go out of respect to Slash.

First solo (clean) - Robin

Second solo (shredding) - Bucket

I don't even consider that first solo a real solo.  We all know what we are talking about here.  And there are even pinch harmonics there.

"Better" has got that "Black label society - fire it up" sound...well not really but its sorta close..

(good song btw)

Hogg, no he could not.  He got the boot because he could not keep time or play and Bucket and Robin wanted him out.  Paul Tobias balows.

I happen to REALLY like Robin's solo. It's very "classic" sounding. Very out of the ordinary...

FYI, who cares if Paul is playing or not. ?And actually, who knows. ?Fact is the song is too raw to truly appreciate. ?I am sure Paul is a nice guy, but there is a reason he is gone. ?The solo kicks ass. ?That is why I am interested in who is really playing lead. ?If it is the Bucket, that is bad news. ?If it is Fink or Fortus? ?Great news!!

Quote from Axl:

"Paul helped us a lot in the writing and the recording of this record and to me was a vital part of not only the band but also my life. The world tour really wasn't his cup of tea whereas he's much more comfortable in a studio setting"

Great questions. ?Maybe Paul is a great song writer? ?Paul was a yes man for Axl. ?Plain and simple. ?He did what Axl said. ?He probably wrote some cool stuff, but a great guitar player he is not.

I started this thread to discuss the lead guitar (namely the solo) because it rocks.

Buckethead playing it is bad news because he is currently out of the band.  When I see a band live, I would like to see the guys involved play it atleast live one time.  Now we get so see someone else screw up this solo, just like when Fink would butcher Slash.

Paul was not playing lead, so I don't care if he is strumming some bar chords you can't even hear.

Yeah, it's got quite an aggressive riff in places.

Robin is really going to show off the work of his career very soon i think  :)

Thanks Dave.  What does the intro sound like?  Different from the rest of the song?

To answer the main question, I think Robin plays the main riff and Bucket definitely plays the second solo. The first slow break could be Bucket or Robin. Better sounds like a Robin riff as well.
