I begged them for a dog all through my childhood but they (rightly) didn't budge. I love them both - cats are probably cooler but the endless affection that you get from a dog is totally unique.
Seeing as it's lame when people reply with "they're both great", I will say that dogs are just a little bit better. They're more fun and energetic, basically. Same here. I always loved dogs and wanted one but my parents would never let me have one. I had cats, though. I think both animals are great but I think I'd be more of a dog person. Dogs are more affectionate and love to play. Cats are more indepedent. I prefer an animal that loves to play and is affectionate over the independent animals.
