I think the hispanic thing comes from Beta and being around her family so much. He probably does believe in reincarnation, he had a load of therapy where he was able to see into his past life or something like that, the interviews are in the 1999 section of HTGTH. Stephanie also said something in court about Axl believing that her and Erin were both sisters in a former life and had tried to kill him.
