In addition to DISTURBED, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's booking agent recently told Billboard magazine that Zakk Wylde and Co. have also been confirmed for this summer's trek. Additional offers to play the tour have been extended to AVENGED SEVENFOLD and ATREYU, according to recently published interviews with both artists.

Controversy continues to swirl over seemingly contradictory comments Disturbed lead singer David Draiman has made about the band playing Ozzfest 2006. Apparently, visitors have been peppering the message board at the bands' official website with non-stop criticism over Draimans' comments...some demanding an apology.

KNAC.COM's Jeff Kerby asked Draiman about the reports, in a Seattle radio interview, he said "It looks like at this point that we are confirmed for Ozzfest this summer..."

KNAC.COM: Word on the Internet is that Disturbed has been confirmed for Ozzfest?is this true?

DRAIMAN: We can neither confirm nor deny such information.

KNAC.COM: So any reports stating that you have??

DRAIMAN: They?re garbage. I haven?t said anything to anybody. I?m not saying it isn?t happening, but I haven?t gotten any official confirmation myself. Some radio station in Seattle decided to speculate or something. Every radio station interview that I?ve done at the station though has been with the whole band, and they?ve heard me every single time, and I?ve never said anything like that. We?re in talks with them, but nothing has been solidified.

Draiman left this message on the bands message board, shortly before it was turned off completely:

"When an apology is warranted, I am the first to offer one. But not in this case. I do not appreciate the idiocy of people criticizing what I am supposed to have said. I am not going to defend myself any more than I already have, as there should be no need to. I have half a mind to do away with this board completely, because instead of being a place where we can joyfully interact with the fans it has become a haven for the holier than thou. People who actually have the audacity to think that they have a right to say how we should conduct ourselves or even the wording that we may choose. The door is open to you too, if you do not approve or want to leave.

I hope that you are proud of youself for once again distancing the band from its one means of limited interaction with its fans. You make me really feel welcome here. And what are we arguing about anyway? Whether or not I remember saying something a certain way? I already said I don't remember, nor does the rest of the band who have been present at these radio interviews, remember saying it, and already explained how sound bites are created and how editing of radio interviews are done, and even admitted to saying something like 'It looks like we are' [confirmed for Ozzfest]. So fucking what? Nothing is good enough for you, short of prostrating myself and apologizing for something that doesn't even have anything to do with you? Fuck off. Mission accomplished on alienating me from my own band's board. Time for a sabbatical. Fight amongst yourselves over nothing. I'll concentrate on the shows, and doing what I love most, not being sucked into this pathetic bullshit. Enjoy."

 Don't ya just love message boards :P

Alternative Press is reporting that UNEARTH will be co-headlining the second stage of this year's Ozzfest.

"We're playing something like third-to-last on the bill or something; yeah, we're basically headlining the second stage," UNEARTH guitarist Ken Susi told the magazine in an interview conducted on Tuesday (Feb. 14).

Susi informed Alternative Press that the tour will again run from the beginning of July through the end of August as in years past, but offered no insight to any other bands confirmed for the trek.

ETALLICA and SYSTEM OF A DOWN are strongly rumored to have secured the "headliner" and "special guest" slots at this year's Ozzfest, industry insiders have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET.

Although no bands have been officially announced for this year's festival, DISTURBED frontman David Draiman revealed during an appearance on the Seattle station 99.9 KISW in January that his band will be appearing on this summer's Ozzfest. Meanwhile, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's booking agent recently told Billboard magazine that Zakk Wylde and Co. have also been confirmed for this year's trek. UNEARTH guitarist Ken Susi told the Alternative Press on Feb. 14 that his band will be one of the rotating headliners on the second stage of Ozzfest 2006, while Jesse Hayes of the Cleveland radio station WMMS 100.7 FM announced last month during his daily "Buzzard Rock Report" segment that BODY COUNT ? the heavy metal band fronted by rapper/actor Ice T ? will be performing at this year's traveling festival. BLEEDING THROUGH frontman Brandon Schieppati reportedly revealed at the conclusion of the band's performance at Neumo's in Seattle, Washington Sunday night (Feb. 19) that they will be taking part in Ozzfest 2006. Additional offers to play the tour have been extended to AVENGED SEVENFOLD and ATREYU, according to recently published interviews with both artists.

The Ozzfest organizers are expected to announce the official lineup for this year's festival sometime in March.

In an Ozzfest first, OZZY OSBOURNE has decided not to perform on the main stage at the festival's July 8 stop at San Bernardino, CA's Hyundai Pavilion of Glen Helen. Instead, the rock icon has chosen to get right in the face of fans on the frontline by headlining the down and dirty second stage located in a field adjacent to the venue's proper amphitheatre. For each of the last ten years, Ozzfest's founder and namesake has headlined the main stage of the summer's premiere touring concert festival. At this time, Ozzy is scheduled to headline the main stage at his other nine Ozzfest performances slated for this year.

Announcing his decision, Ozzy says, "After 10 years of headlining Ozzfest's main-stage I think it's time for a change. I haven't had a chance to play this close to an audience in years and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it. So look out, L.A."

Launch Radio Networks reports: The 11th annual Ozzfest gets underway today (Thursday, June 29) in Seattle, Washington, and for the first time in the tour's history, neither OZZY OSBOURNE nor BLACK SABBATH is headlining the main stage for the entire duration. OSBOURNE is sharing those duties this year with SYSTEM OF A DOWN and DISTURBED, whose frontman David Draiman told Launch that he doesn't see the change as any sort of major challenge. "We deliver 110 percent whether Ozzy would be playing a full set any given night or whether he's not playing in a given night or whatever the case may be," he said. "Ozzy's earned the right to do whatever the hell Ozzy wants to do. If he wants to play six shows, so be it, if he wants to play a dozen shows, so be it. He's paid his dues and he's done what he's needed to do."

Osbourne announced yesterday (Wednesday, June 28) that he will headline the tour's second stage on July 1 in San Francisco instead of the main stage. The singer is now playing six dates on the main stage, seven on the second stage, and one solo headlining concert on July 14 in Kansas City.

With thundering metal guitars and some old Black Sabbath favorites, Ozzy Osbourne worked the heavy metal fans into a frenzy at his 11th annual Ozzfest at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Tuesday afternoon.

Impressive was Osbourne's energy. After all, the man is 57.

But there he was in black shirt and jeans on the Munster Energy Second Stage, kicking off his 4 p.m. set. Because the stage faced south, he performed under a merciless sun.

Yet he seemed well-rested, and he acted like an enthusiastic young rocker, jumping, screaming and exhorting the fans to "let me hear you!"

He opened with the haunting tones of "Mr. Crowley" as the crowd roared its approval.

Also impressive was the turnout, estimated at about 18,000 by security officials. This despite the fact that the concert took place on a weekday and on an asphalt parking lot under a blazing summer sun.

Other marquee names still to perform on the amphitheater main stage Tuesday included Avenged Sevenfold, Hatebreed, Disturbed and System of a Down.

Yet the 2006 Ozzfest was about a lot more than just Ozzy or heavy metal music.

Like the Warped Tour, which stopped here two weeks ago, Ozzfest is a cultural festival where Mohawks and green hair, nose rings and punk attitude seem perfectly at home. There were dozens of busy booths providing tattoos, piercing and body painting. There were souvenir, merchandise and CD booths galore.

And of course, there was music ? lots of it.

A roster of some 20 bands started as early as 9:30 a.m. Beyond the rock metal veterans, fans also came to see new, upcoming talent such as A Life Once Lost, All That Remains, Walls of Jericho and Full Blown Chaos.

"We came early to see Atreyu," said a red-faced Jaime Salgado, 20, of Dallas, and a student at Texas State University-San Marcos. "It would be nice if we had brought umbrellas though. Man it's hot."

Elsewhere, music fans toured the sideshows of this musical circus.

One big tent offered a few oddities: the Two-Headed Boy, the Giant Snake and the World's Smallest Horse. In the nearby Bros. Grim tent, attractions included Melinda the Bearded Lady ? Alive, Wolf People of M?xico and the Lizard Man.

But the main attraction was still Ozzy.

And after plowing through another classic, the maudlin "Road to Nowhere," Osbourne addressed the animated crowd.

"They just told me I can only do one more song! I told them F you!" Osbourne shouted.

Of course, there was never any danger of the festival's namesake getting thrown off the stage, but the fans ate it up.

"If you want to hear some more music, you gotta let me F hear you," he shouted.

They did. Chants of "Ozzy Ozzy! and "Otra Otra!" went up.

Osbourne and his band cranked into another crowd favorite, "Crazy," and everywhere fists started pumping and heads started banging.

After Osbourne's set, the huge mass of fans moved to the amphitheater to continue the party and catch Dragonforce rip into "Valley of the Dead."
