Here Today... Gone To Hell!

I find this sad but the world we live in today is filled with so many people who are so cynical and are unable to enjoy or like anything.

Im really gonna find it sad for people who have waited this long and will ultimately shit on the album regardless of how great it is.

I can see the threads and posts now and it makes me sad to know that some people on here are probably not even gonna give the CD a chance before they bash it.



Do me a favor....

Dont expect Appetite, Dont expect UYI's, Don't compare it to anything, Just listen to it for what it is and allow yourself to be entertained.

If u truly dont like it, Fine, I can live with that, but at least give it the fair chance it deserves before being critical.

this album is gonna be a complex record.

that means it wont be easily digestible, its not gonna be candy hooky pop shit and albums like this take time to digest and hear properly.

So it may take 4 or 5 listens all the way through to fully hear this properly.

So please, give it the proper listening before judgement.

thats the problem coz most fans are gonna be expecting/compearing this to appetite coz its still called guns n roses.everybody,like you said,needs to not expect anything like old gnr and to really listen to it for a couple of days,then if it doesnt grow on ye,dont listen to it.but im sure no matter what,there will always be a select bunch of nerds who dont give the album a chance.?

Well Axl commented to RS that there will be a few songs they will like, which I guess says to me that the average old school rock fan would like those too. Basically I think there will be something for everyone.

Even if the album is REALLY GOOD, I mean something like U2 - The Joshua Tree, Pink Floyd - DSOTM or Led Zeppelin - IV, some people bash Axl for the album not being better, cause it has taken a decade. PF recorded DSOTM in like (I don't know) 2 years so if Chinese Democracy took 10 years to record it has to be 5 times better than DSOTM...

I know this is a stupid argumentation but some people will do this kind of math once CD is released.

the most a real fan can hope for is an honest, unbiased, balanced critique.

I agree, it will be a challenging album that will likely reveal it's charms slowly

but in saying that, if it's a turkey, i'll be calling it a turkey - and if its brilliant, i'll be elated

its too bad for them if they bash it without truly taking the time to listen, etc...
i don't care about them though, i just hope that the band is happy with what they put out and i'm sure we will be as well.

I've said this a million times , some critics have had their reviews written for years , and you KNOW they aint pretty.

Axl haters of course will bash the album, even if it's modern music's new masterpiece. It's just the way the world works.

Dude they can say it sucks if they want who gives a fuck. It wont stop me any of you from getting it going to see a concert and listening to cd 1000x over again. They can only say it sucks if they hear every song and listen to i not just say it sucks for fun.

at the other end of the scale where will be people that will love it whatever it sounds like unfortuantly ill be one as i aint waited 12+ years for me to think its shit  :confused:

D, that was one of the best posts I've seen here in awhile. I actually agree and disagree with what you said. From thh fanbase point of view, you are absolutely correct. There will be a certain percentage of people who will hate it regardless of whats on the album, and there is probably a couple people here who will insult the material even before they hear it. You're right, people will probably need to listen to it a few times before making a final judgement. We're probably gonna be shocked when we hear what made it on the record. This is pure speculation, but I could easily see this record going in a Simply Red/The Cure direction. Whatever he does, it might take awhile to sink in.

From the media point of view, I disagree with you and several others in this thread. As I've said many times before, the media conspiracy against Axl never existed. It was a figment of his imagination, and that imagination mindmelded with a certain percentage of the people here. The media will welcome with open arms the release of this album, and it will be fairly judged. If Axl truly has made a very different and more mature record than his previous efforts, CD might be praised by the media even more than the praise from his fanbase. : ok:

I think a lot depends on how this does financially...whether people like it or hate it, well that's a personal thing...speculation on what it sounds like, what direction, yadda, yadda, yadda is the same cycle that everyone went through when they were performing those 5 "new" songs 4 years ago...Axl doesn't doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks, including the original fan base of the old GNR and the Axl lovers who choose to defend him on every turn...the record company is going to b looking at $$$$$$ - nothing personal, it's just business...it will be interesting to see if the record makes the predicted "you'll hear it this year" no need to get your panties in a bunch just yet though, talk is cheap remember

I never bought it but listened to it like 10 times online when it was availible prerelease, and I wnated to like it but it never held my attention.

Look Axl isnt trying to be AFD GNR.

Robin Finck or whoever plays lead isnt TRYING to sound like Slash. 

Contraband is a difficult album to listen to, but it took me about 5 times all the way through and now its one of my fav albums ever.


Oh My God took me 50 listens before I liked it, Now I absolutely love it.

Garden of Eden took me 11 years to appreciate and like, now I love it.

Music has been so dilluted and watered down, a lot of people's senses have been dulled.

I remember I got in a phase where I was driving back and forth to college without a CD player in the car, so I got stuck listening to the radio.

all the boy band and pop shit.

a year later Prince came out with the spectacular concept album "The Rainbow Children"

It took me forever to get into this album not cause it wasnt great, only cause my senses and musical comprehension ability had been distorted from listening to candy hooks and pop radio friendly songs for a while.

Same thing with CD


There may be some, but I seriously doubt its gonna be the type of stuff where u can sing a long to every word after a listen or two.

Complex arrangements makes it difficult for the average music listener to comprehend.

Complex lyric and melody arrangements makes it difficult for the average ear to pick everything that's goin on up in the first listen or two.

So unless u are a musical expert with perfect ear, its gonna take some listens to totally hear and feel all the different musical things goin on.

OFF T: I bought CB, listened to it a few times and havent picked it up in forever-it was good on the first few listens, but just didnt hold up.

OT: Of course there wil be people who'll hate the album simply b/c it isnt the gnr they want to hear-but i do think it will get a fair shake from legitimate rock critics. remember, even some of the most negative reviews of the 2002 tour gave props to the newer material that was played.

There will be many people who have bashed it and will love CD when it comes out.  I think most of the bashing is/was done because of delays, not the musical intent.

You really know what you are talking about. Ever listen to any Cure albums? Since we've heard this stuff about "complex" arrangements, and these composers and shit, the first thought that comes to mind is The Cure. Has Axl ever mentioned being a Cure fan? Maybe they are an influence on CD. For those of you that have never heard The Cure, go download one of their more popular songs like Lullaby or Love Song. I could easily see Axl taking GNR in that direction.

I only read the topic, wont bother with the rest i just say who cares if other people dont give it a chance. I enjoy music for me alone, I could care less if the rest of the world enjoys it aswell. Its enough for me that true fans enjoy it, the rest can suck my dickinson!  :hihi:

Not true. I was psyched to hear Contraband. GNR is my favorite band, and STP is also one of my favorites. When I bought the album I was very disappointed. I have listened to it quite a few times, and it just does nothing for me. Way too much talent in that band to produce such mediocre results, although I do have high hopes for their next album. The only songs bearable on that album are Slither and Fall to pieces.

Im not saying u have to love an album.

Like U with Contraband James, U bought it, u tried your best to like it, U didnt.

If u listen without bias to CD a few times and hate it, thats fine, bash away.

So if people do not like Chinese Democracy instantly then they are guilty of what you said here.  Sorry but initial reactions are just that... initial reactions!  You can't do a week's analysis of something in 2 hours.  Will there be people who don't like it right off the bat?  Of course there will be.  Will there be people that come around after 5 listens, 50 listens, or 11 years like you?  Probably.  There may even be people who will NEVER like it (gasp)!  I don't understand why you are getting all bent out of shape about this. 

Its like you are saying that everyone is required to put this album at the top of their lists as the greatest album ever made.  Just relax man.  Jesus.

fair  enough. Contraband took me a few listens before I began to like it, and then it really took hold only after I saw them live. So, yeah, we should give Axl a chance and not rush to judgment on the basis of a first listen.

Actually I don't give a shit what anyone says about the album. When I get to listen to it then my opinion is the only one relevant to me personally, just like yours will be to you.

It's just music. It won't be life changing or the second coming or anything.

It's definetly true and people will try to convince you to say otherwise if you dislike certain newer songs

I agree with the original poster, but it also works the other way. There will be people saying this album is amazing even if it is terriable. We will have to wait and see. :)

poeple who i work with who never liked GNR are now sayin to me that contraband is brilliant and will be better than CD coz they dont like axl.but i bet 4 out of 5 of them buy CD.

CD could have only 2 good songs on it and it would still rank higher than Contraband. It still amazes me that with all that talent in VR, the best thing they could come up with is Slither.

Why bring Contraband in to this? God talk about defensive!! I never dissed CD just saying that there are two sides to this argument, and you have to bring in VR. It is not about hating Axl, if CD is really bad, there will still be people here saying it is the greatest thing since sliced bread!!

It is like the pics of Axl that came out the otherday. People said he looks great, when he clearly didn't. Don't get me wrong I am an Axl fan, it is I am not going to get caught up in fanworship.
