Title: Dave kushner, good bad or just ugly?
Post by: liesin on January 05, 2006, 10:16:19 AM
Dont know if this topics been up before but i thought i'd give it a try.

Dave Kushner, Is he good for velvet or simply some guy the nedd just to stand behind Slash and his solos?

I believe Dave is really good, and i think he contributes to the band, It's not easy beeing arround all time legends.

Post your thoughts on it, or just tell me it's a shitty subject.

Seems to be a very nice guy and a great guitar player,  just,  it seems to me he lacks the personality/charisma of a rock star or at least the rest of the band.
Physically,  he looks like any other guy down the street that nobody would recognize.

Precisly, he might be a bit avarage, but then again who isn't in comparance to slash n' the others, and ofcourse it's never easy playing rythm guitar.

Dave is great.. He has plenty of talent and has played with some good bands... They have known eachother for years too. Remember the Wasted Youth shirt Slash had in The Ritz show?? I believe that was Dave's band. Anyway musically I think he contributed alot to Contraband and VR's sound... He uses alot of effects and pedals that help the band sound fresh.. Slash doesn't really mess with that stuff...

I really, really dislike the pedals and effects Dave brought to Contraband. Maybe it is time to bring Izzy Stradlin into the band. I know Scott supposedly wasnt comfortable with the riffs Izzy came up with because it was too GNR, but Daves playing isnt exactly earth shattering either..its much worse. But VR should try to stay away from the modern sound Dave is going for. After 3 weeks i got tired of it.  :crying:

Just believe it, he did say so, atleast he said something like it's "too classic rock for him". No one wants to go thru 1000345 interviews.

Going back to topic. Dave is great, I like his style and I think that he fits perfect in Velvet Revolver.

I've seen VR Twice, and Dave was really all over the place, It almost looked like he was going to jump in the crowd and go for a crowd surf or something ?:peace:

We can confidently say 'Not for long...'.

As for Dave, I think he's cool. If Slash picked him, then he must be pretty good. Time will tell.

Slash said that the VR work with Izzy is the best instrumental GN'R album to date, he said it sounded like GN'R. Izzy's stuff is classic rock / aka GN'R

Dave is great both live and studiowise.
besides, he wrote Illegal I Song (not the lyrics of course) and it's an awesome song imo!

I didn't like him until I saw him live, and he is a very good guitarist.  Does a lot more than just play chords.  I saw the HDnet concert and he was playing the hell out of each song.

He's a REALLY nice guy, but I honest to God can't "hear" him on Contraband, so I don't have a very clear way of telling if he's great or just mediocre (or anywhere in between). I don't know how much he contributed to the song writing process either. There's a lot of talent in this band, and it sounds superficial (and well, it is), but I'd rather they just went with an okay rhythm player with a kick ass rock n' roll image. He sticks out like a sore thumb against Scott, Slash, Duff, and Matt, and for the wrong reason. That being said, it isn't that big of a deal, and live, he handles himself well.

So why did Velvet Revolver use Izzy's riff from "Bomb" (opening track from Like A Dog) on Do It For The Kids?

Also, re: that Axl quote in your signature, is Axl referring to Slash wanting to take power off Izzy, which would lead to Slash killing the band... or Izzy taking power off Slash, which would lead to Izzy killing the band?
