Title: KLOS
Post by: Layne Staley's Sunglasses on January 05, 2006, 02:09:03 AM
KLOS 95.5 here in Los Angeles, the only classic rock station in the region was talking about a March release date for CD.  Maybe Slash is right.  They're a respectable station, and their pro Guns, it's not like they were making fun, so maybe this is it.

I hope its CD but if anything is going to happen its probably an announcement. In any event anything positive ocurring in march would be fine by me.  :)

IF March is the month, we will find out on Superbowl Sunday. Not at the halftime show, but a commercial announcing the date for Chinese Democracy. There's no way in hell Interscope will pass up the opportunity to advertise the release date to a billion people. No CD Superbowl commercial=No CD in first half of 2006. : ok:

Yes. Interscope/Sanctuary/Axl need as many people as possible knowing about CD's release date. Since most people dont care like they used to, the Superbowl is the best opportunity they have to promote it worldwide at the same time. A commercial would only cost one or two million. Thats why movies are always promoted during the Superbowl, it gets the news out quickly, and the news spreads around the globe. Monday morning's top stories would be the Chicago Bears Superbowl victory and the release date of Chinese Democracy.

?James is right...well everything except the Bears victory in the Super Bowl. ? :hihi:
While I think they'll get there, I can't see the AFC losing (Indy, Den, or Pitt that is)

?Now, when it comes to Super Bowl talk and GNR, someone always gets mad and thinks it's ridiculous. ?I don't think it's so far-fetched. ?We all know Axl's a sports fan. ?We all know he wore officially licensed NFL jerseys throughout the '02 Tour. ?We all know he was actually at the Super Bowl a few years back. ?Add to that the timing of the new rumored release date makes it more likely this year than ever. ? :peace: ? If it happens, I'll be going crazy!

It MAY be released in March, but there (just my prediction) there WON'T be a Super Bowl commercial.  I hate when that's even brought up.  I'm not sure how it is around the world, but in the U.S, think about it:  How many "new album" commercials do you see for bands?  The only ones that I can think of is for some shitty rap albums, that look like they cost like $1.50 to produce.

And even then, I can only think of a couple I saw this past year:  Eminem's Greatest Hits, and one other one where I just remember the announcer yelling "Yo Yo, the new album drops..." but then I immediately tuned it out because it was so annoying.

So I'm hoping that there ISN'T a commercial for the album.

?Television advertising will be crucial to increased sales of CD. ?I can remember 3 music ads from the past year: ?U2, Eminem, and Usher. ?Axl and GNR are big enough names to warrant the same type of tratment. ?Nothing could be better than Super Bowl Sunday when people (guys AND girls) actually run back into the room to watch the commercials! ?It would be well worth the cost. ? :peace:

BUT....Wasn't the U2 album a tie-in with the new ipod or something?

Sorry I'm a little biased here.  I work on this stuff on a daily basis, and I've yet to see a memorable commercial for an album.

Right on. Do you have any idea how much $$$ it costs to advertise a 30 second commercial on Super bowl Sunday? No chance in hell that they shell out that kind of $$ for a mention of a new CD by GnR.
And I agree with Jarmo. It's likely that radio stations have picked up the March rumor from the internet, as it's been posted here, at Metal Sludge and I'm sure several other rock sites as well.

they could hook up with someone like budweiser or something for the commercial... or a sponsor.  it wouldnt be gnr alone due to money but i still dont see it.

I think Tommy should be the "talker" for GNR! Dont get me wrong! I would LOVE to hear Axl on the radio, But i also think that it is important to include the other members in this! Tommy really knows how to put the words.!  :peace:

You beat me to it Jarmo I was going to say that.

This news has reached GN'R fans high and wide and I'm pretty sure they didn't get an exclusive but just heard Slash's comments or read a GN'R Fan website.

Also

Although I'm not American and am from UK, I see no chance of there being a CD Commercial at the Superbowl

exactly... there have been no commercials for albums that have stuck in my head.  The only one I can think of right now is the Eminem iPod commerical because it is so recent.

But I do think they could make a memorable one.  Rather than doing the ones where the music is playing (most likely a recent single) and they say "Band Name's new album is in stores This Day".  I think if they just told people it was coming it might get people interested.  No music, no pictures of the band....  Just like tell the bands name the cd title, and the date its coming.

I agree-they probably picked it up from here or even the station's site. I still think March is too early for the actual album itself-i think that will happen closer to may or june (if it comes out at all)-just because that would be closer to RIR and soundtrack time for the major summer movies. But I think by March we will hear something about what the band is doing-we should know for sure if they are doing RIO by then!

If the album really is coming in March, we'd need to hear SOMETHING in the next two or three weeks. There's no way you'll see a Super Bowl commercial and then have a single rush released to radio - its possible, but I doubt it'll happen. HOPEFULLY, we'll see a single a few weeks, but until I hear it, or have it in my hands (I'm a college radio DJ), I'm not gonna believe it.

There is Zero chance of an ad popping up for the Super Bowl. Last Year Fox was charging 2.4 Million Dollars for a 30 second spot. That number is only going to rise.

All though this is an interesting set of numbers (for all the suprise Super Bowl Preformance theorists):

2004

Increase in album sales the week after the Super Bowl for Justin Timberlake?s ?Justified?
 160%

Increase in album sales post-Super Bowl week for Janet Jackson?s ?All For You?
 160%

2003

Increase in album sales the week after the Super Bowl for Shania Twain?s ?Up?
 41%

Increase in album sales post-Super Bowl week for No Doubt?s ?Tragic Kingdom?
 58%

2002

Increase in album sales post-Super Bowl week for U2?s ?All That You Leave Behind?
 142%

2001

Increase in album sales post-Super Bowl week for Aerosmith?s ?Greatest Hits?
 100%

They'd definitely have to hook up with a sponsor or something like that.  There is no way they could afford a million dollar time slot on the superbowl alone.

Title: Re: KLOS

I agree with ChoDem and COma on this one.  In my opinion, Axl advertising during the Super Bowl is a lose/lose situation, because:

1.  The commercial will be just cheesy and forgettable (as I stated in an earlier post)

2.  People who forgot that the band was around will say "That's not Guns n' Roses!"

3.  Attaching the Gn'R name to a sponsor will make them look like huge sellouts, which is what's typically associated with bands that attach either their name or songs to sell products.   Not exactly the publicity you're looking for on a new release.

-Also, with the past examples given, remember:  These artists' sales increased with a performance, not a commercial. Also, (I could be mistaken here) but all of their albums were already released, and this just enhanced the sales.

I tried to qualify those stats with the following comment: "this is an interesting set of numbers (for all the suprise Super Bowl Preformance theorists)"

meaning that maybe a preformance would help the impending** release of Chinese Democracy

** by impending, I meant as impending as the 2nd Ice Age.

It was right after they mentioned the March release date. I also recall a few weeks earlier they were talking about Fortus coming back to record with GNR, which was also mentioned on this board. So... they definitely read this board for GNR news/rumors.
