Post by: Irish gunner II on December 31, 2005, 01:10:32 PM
Couldnt see where else to put this but here we go.

1. We speak english, not Irish.
2. We have electricity and those other modern things we apparently dont have.
3. We are NOT ENGLISH. REPEAT NOT ENGLISH.nothing against the lads across the water but we aint ye.
4. Leprechauns DONT EXIST

Thats it really, so for the europeans on here ye know this already.

Just an opinion i have got from certain americans asking stuff.? ?

4. Leprechauns DONT EXIST

Leprechauns most certainly do exist, I found one at the end of a rainbow when I was kissing the Blarney Stone and drinking a pint of guinness, I had recently shaved my long red beard and wasn't wearing my big green hat at the time.

And we wonder where the amercans get the view some of them have of the Irish. And him from Dublin and all sure.

My impression of the Irish is generally cool people come from there, and they have cool accents (although it can be hard to decypher the words sometimes). I've never met someone who even claimed an Irish bloodline that didn't drink alcohol.  I've not met many actual Irish people though. I don't know much about the Irish or Ireland, really, except I've heard that supposedly MI5 agents/assets have carried out the majority of the claimed IRA bombings in order to have a pretext to suppress the Irish people.

So am I to believe that you all are drunk constantly? Because that's the biggest American view of the Irish I know, and you didn't correct it.

I used to be friends with an Irish guy, actually from Ireland, not just his parents. ?And he was a nice person, but honestly, his idea of a great weekend was to go to a bar, get drunk as hell, and get into a fight. ?He didn't care if he won or lost the fight, that was just fun to him. ?He also drank a lot, at least it seemed like a lot to me, and he was doing it long before he was 21. ?He also loved the color green, so in some ways he was a walking stereotype.

Ha! I used to get offended by the whole thing but when an American came up to me in Dublin city on Paddy's day with an I heart Ireland hat, and a Guinness t-shirt on and asked for directions to the "book of kellys" I just couldn't help but laugh at the whole fuckin thing.

Every country has its stereotypes.

I personally find England and Ireland very fascinating. I'd love to visit both.
