Title: A new philosophical question for all to answer... Post by: RichardNixon on December 21, 2005, 07:51:53 PM Would you rather:
A: Live a long life, say another 60 years, of ups and downs... or B: Live for one more year of total bliss... Title: Re: A new philosophical question for all to answer... Post by: Hammy on December 21, 2005, 07:55:02 PM A: Live a long life, say another 60 years, of ups and downs...

Title: Re: A new philosophical question for all to answer... Post by: RichardNixon on December 21, 2005, 08:00:28 PM Yeah, it's a tought call. Provided their were enough ups, I think I would choose A. As Nixon once said, "unless you've been in the lowest valley, you don't know what it's like to be on the higest mountian," or something like that.
Title: Re: A new philosophical question for all to answer... Post by: Queen of Everything on December 21, 2005, 08:01:01 PM I say A all the way!!!! ?A year just isnt enough? :-\
Title: Re: A new philosophical question for all to answer... Post by: AxlsMainMan on December 21, 2005, 08:04:43 PM Id definately choose B)
A year definately isnt too much time at all, but if you spend if with everyone you love/adore and do all the crazy things you've always wanted to do then a year would be plenty. Ive lived a 1000 lives before this one, on to the next one.. Title: Re: A new philosophical question for all to answer... I'd like to live another 60 years. There's so many things I want to do. A year isn't enough time. I'd rather endure some more tough times. Title: Re: A new philosophical question for all to answer... Post by: Mr. Dick Purple on December 21, 2005, 09:00:54 PM I hate getting old so I go for B

Title: Re: A new philosophical question for all to answer... Post by: Guns N RockMusic on December 22, 2005, 08:07:27 PM This question is all based on what one desires out of life - not philosophy, at least not based off the answers thus far. I mean if one was a die hard hedonist then they would have to opt for the utility gained from one year fo bliss and excess. Even if one was a utilitarian there might be some weight to opting for a year of bliss in the total sum units of utility outweighed the total sum units of pain and suffering that the world would experience.
Is the year of bliss going to be higher pleasures (mental) or lower pleasures (physical)? If you're going to get philosophical, let's go balls out. Personally I believe the meaning of life to have as many positive influences on others as possible and experience as much as you can, but that's just me. i don't see how someone can believe to have a morally satisfying life if their sole goal is pleasure and self indulgence. So the question at hand is really does one want to lead a normal life (ups and downs) or live a life of excess and pleasure? I argue that opting for 1 year of bliss is very selfish and morally/spiritually unfullfilling. However, if one were to obtain their bliss through good deeds and bettering the world, then that would surely be a selfless act and morally right just so long as they were doing said actions because they were right and not to gain the pleasure of those actions - have I lost anyone? Alot could be said and debated on this topic. Title: Re: A new philosophical question for all to answer... Post by: Butch Français on December 22, 2005, 09:45:10 PM A.
