Title: Godsmack
Post by: metallex78 on December 12, 2005, 07:39:51 PM
Any Godsmack fans here?

I only recently got into them and they have a few decent songs. Kind of like a mix between Metallica and Alice In Chains, and being an Alice In Chains fan, yes I know that AIC have a song Godsmack too.
My fav songs so far are Bad Religion, Keep Away and Straight Out Of Line.

I highly recommend their DVD Changes, it has great live footage mixed with interviews and stuff, it's pretty damn cool.

I really like Godsmack!

I've seen them twice  - electrified and unplugged.  Both were awesome.  : ok:

Sully is a great drummer too.

The other Side is my fav, but I really enjoy all the songs.

I thought the same thing when I first heard them, but after watching their live DVD Changes, my opinion of them changed. They're quite a competent rock band in their own right.

Heres Godsmacks new single Speak..I think it is pretty good..Sounds like alot of there other singles but there a great band

"Speak" is the first single from the group's new album, "IV", due on April 25 via Republic/Universal. The single will be released to radio on Tuesday, February 14.

In a recent interview with MTV.com, GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna had the following to say about the follow-up to 2003's "Faceless": "It's a killer record, and I'm really curious to see what the public's going to think of it. It's still GODSMACK ? I don't think it's lost the integrity of what GODSMACK has built our career off. The toughness of the sound is still there. But we've expanded a little bit more. After 'Faceless', we started to spread our wings a bit and reintroduce guitar solos and stuff like that. The acoustic record [2004's 'The Other Side'] was a departure and it was very well received. It opened up a new audience for us ? a lot more adults were coming to the shows, bringing their kids and having a glass of wine. That gave us a permission slip to take it to the next level.

"It will perk people's eyebrows up again," he added. "The first couple of records were kind of the same record, in a sense. They were sort of bordering that metal sound and then the third record had more rock mixed into it. ['The Other Side'] really softened up the sound. This one is more rock and roll, and some songs are very epic, in a TOOL [-ish] sense. Some songs are like old-school GODSMACK, like 'Bad Religion'. It's going to service the core fans and introduce some new music to those fans. It's also going to recruit a bigger and broader audience, because the songwriting has matured so much."

Other songtitles expected to appear on the CD include "Livin' in Sin", "Shine Down" (which comes complete with "killer harmonica") and "Voodoo Too".

The new single is pretty good but I expected something a bit more different.

Yeah, the new single isn't too bad. Sounds like stock standard Godsmack with a little bit different production. I look forward to hearing the rest of the album though.

I like it, can't complain. What category of rock are Godsmack? I read on a website they were glam-metal which i completelt disagree with

GODSMACK's upcoming North American tour will be a three-band package, featuring an as-yet-undisclosed co-headliner (rumored to be ROB ZOMBIE) and an opening act, to be announced at a later date. Speaking to Cutter of Appleton, Wisconsin's Razor 94.7 radio station on Monday, April 24, GODSMACK drummer Shannon Larkin said of the band's upcoming touring plans, "We're going to Canada [in June], then we're gonna hit Alaska, then we're gonna move over to Japan, come back around the world, do Mexico, South America? Unfortunately, it's not gonna be until September that we come to America, but on the positive tip, when we do come to America, it will be our biggest show we've ever brought out, and we have a wonderful, wonderful co-headliner. And guess who it is? I can't tell you. I know, it's such a teaser. I guess the deal's 99 percent done, not a hundred, so? But it's gonna happen. I've talked to the man in question even, so I can say we're bringing a kick-ass show ? two kick-ass bands plus an opening band ? and like I said, we're not sparing any account on the people's expense this time ? it's gonna be full-blown pyro, video, midgets? just kidding, no midgets. [Laughs]"

Classsic responce. Maybe a little more original next time please.

An unoriginal clich?d response for a band the makes unoriginal clich?d music. Godsmack even has their very own "Jar of Flies" with "The Other Side."

I'm gonna see if I can find it tonight, I'm not sure if it's released here in Australia yet.

I loved the album Faceless, is the new album in a similar vein?

I agree, Godsmack aren't very original, but they're one of the few newer bands around that are carrying the torch for classic-sounding heavy rock, and I'm all for that. None of their albums are earth-shattering musically, but they are solid efforts with a few stand out cuts on each.

And they're a great live band too, you should check out their live DVD Changes.

Mallcore Pantera-worship that doesn't come close to the original. Hell, Pantera was Exhorder worship, so Godsmack is a rip-off of a rip-off.  ;D

Listen to the new CD without talking shit about the band for once. They are one of the few hard rock bands left.. And their new CD is their best to date. I dont care what people say about them.. I am a fan.. I am also a fan of Pantera, BLS, Down, CoC, and so on.. They are better than these new bands who either come out crying and writing about killing themselfs or bands who have "singers" who sound like the cookie monster.

They are one of the few hard rock bands left..

That's what I said too, they're one of the few newer bands still flying the flag for classic heavy rock and I'd much rather hear that than this EMO crap or pop-punk that is so popular.

And their new CD is their best to date.

Having heard you say that, I'm really looking forward to getting this album. Hopefully I can find it instore tonight!

I think you nailed it. Maybe I was a tad hard on them. They're better than Fall Out Boy anyway.

Yeah.. If you ever decided to give them a chance.. "IV" is a good CD. Hard Rock to the bone.

As the album isn't released in Australia yet, I've obtained the album by some 'other' means... : ok:

Anyway, I've now heard all the songs aside from One Rainy Day, and I'm liking what I'm hearing.
But I dunno, as with all Godsmack albums, the band really shines on a few songs, while on some others sound like they weren't sure what to play, so they played a slight variation of an earlier song of theirs, I mean The Enemy sounds just like Bad Religion!

Good points though - I really like Living In Sin, along with Hollow, Temptation and Mama.
I guess the other songs will take a few more listens to sink in. Hollow is like the new Serenity.

Definitely a solid hard rock album!

Have this and its a good album. I love " One Rainy Day " and " Hollow ". The female vocals behind Erna create this errie vibe on Hollow. Its a good album for them .

i think this cd rocks!! it's typical godsmack, but that's fine with me. ?the enemy does sound just like bad religion. i'll definately agree that godsmack isn't a very original sounding band, but fuck it, they rock anyways. Alice in Chains meets Metallica in my opinion.

the double drum solo that they did when i saw them was definately one of the best drum solos i've seen live. better than tommy lee's on the crue reunion tour ,for sure.

I'll give them credit for being maybe the only band to emerge from the late 90s post-grunge/nu-metal scene to reatain any  sort of popularity in 2007. Their last CD was actually pretty good.
