I've only heard Slash's and Duff's.

the first Duff record blew, despite all those cameo performances by Slash, the guys from Skid Row, etc.  Beautiful Disease was good though, I have a CDR of that.

I didn't like Neurotic Outsiders or Loaded either.

The first Snakepit record was crap.  A few good guitar riffs but that's it.  Ain't Life Grand was great musically, Slash had some incredible guitar riffs.  I think they're better than the riffs on Contraband.  but Rod Jackson is one of the worst singers ever so that compromised it.

Tomass- How come you don't like ALG?

Beautiful Disease and Neurotic Outsiders are easily the best of the bunch, followed by the first Snakepit. I haven't heard Hollywood Zen or 12 Bar Blues, so I can't say about them, but the rest aren't very good.

Ain't Life Grand.  And I thought Rod Jackson was great!

1. It's Five 'O Clock Somewhere A+
2. Ain't Life Grand                       A

The rest is in the same league (C, C+, B-), although I used to like Believe in me. The worst is the Neurotic album, I really don't like that (D).

(Haven't heard 12 Bar Blues.)

Ain't life grand and It's five 'o clock somewhere, others don't come even close.

The Neurotic Outsiders album is awesome, I don't know how you can't like it. It's great punk rock!

Tomass- How come you don't like ALG?

There were few good tunes on there but Rod Jackson killed it for me.. He had some horrible cheesy lyrics on there and I hated his voice and the way he sang.. He was a total butt rocker.. I had real high hopes for that record too....

Ok, what is "butt-rock" because I've heard that phrase before.

I'd characterize it as lyrically cheezy, weepy guitars with a touch of bad keys or synth for good measure...

Definitely Duff's 'Believe in Me'. The best solo album by a GNR member.

I associate it more with late 80s/'90 pre grunge stuff though.  The usual suspects, GNR had some serious butt rock moments.  More of a sign of the times than the quality of the material...

Definitely Duff's 'Believe in Me'. The best solo album by a GNR member.

Are you serious??? Each to their own but that album is bad. Dumb lyrics and pointless songs. Some of the guest appearances are cool, but they're overshadowed by the bad songs.
Duff was in his worst stages of alcohol-induced stuper during that time and it really shows on allot of songs.

I cannot stress enough how great "12 Bar Blues" is. One of the best, most underrated albums of all-time.

Core

Core isn't a solo album, that's another band altogether.

I think the topic is referring to VR member's solo albums.

As much as I like "Core," its sorta one dimensional. SLDD is a much better album, IMHO, but sold a tenth.

Core- Mixture of Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Nirvana.
Purple- More refined, but has a "grunge" feel.
Tiny Music- A major bowie, 60s retro-pop Beatles-esque feel.
No4- A mixture of all the above
SLDD- A more refined version of No4.

I agree, Good news along with Revolution sound great with Duff on vocals, just straigh-out punk rock!

The whole album has a similar vibe to some of the better rockers on Spaghetti Incident like Raw Power and New Rose.

I'd love to see another Neurotic Outsiders album again some day... : ok:

Beautiful Disease is a great focused punk rock album with a few ballads thrown in, while Believe In Me is a drunken mess of over-indulgence and half-baked ideas.

At least that's what hear when I listen to them.

That's because everyone has different taste in music.

I'm a huge Slash fan and even I think ALG is average. Some of the guitar work is good, but most of the songs are cheesy and as for the vocals and lyrics...

The music on ALG is great, but Rod Jackson was a bit over the top.

I always liked the first Snakepit record, even though it was uncool at the time to like anything associated with GNR.

Snakepit first album, Musically has better songs than the gnr albums, It had been great listening Axl sing them, sadly he refused, but  they got an excellent vocalist, Eric Dover.

Neither Can I.

Thats also what Lars Ulrich said about Metallica headlining Lollapalooza back in 1996. Now we know where he got that quote from. :hihi:

Yeah man, musically those songs just sraight out fucking rocked.... Eric Dover was good but not great, same with the Lyrics.... If Axl sang on there and penned the lyrics, that would have been one hell of a Guns record..

Yes Tomass, I think its also a matter of opinion and everybody's got a different one, but listening Axl  singing, Neither can I, that had been for me a huge hit, cause its not a commercial song, its kind of sad and deep and thats what sometimes Axl used to reflect.

Core

Core isn't a solo album, that's another band altogether.

I think the topic is referring to VR member's solo albums.

I know it's a different band. haha

I thought the topic was about the band members' albums prior to VR. If they were to leave or do projects outside of Velvet Revolver now, then it would be considered solo. But from everyone's posts, I guess not.
