Title: New album Post by: Stealthcamo on November 30, 2005, 08:56:23 PM Hey dudes and dudets I bought Contraband and I FUCKING LOVE IT!!!!! Anyways I was just wondering if VR had plans on releasing a new album? It would be swwet as hell if they were. Well anyway tell me anything if you know. :)
Title: Re: New album Post by: metallex78 on November 30, 2005, 09:01:46 PM I think they're working on their 2nd album now (they're very quiet about it) and I think the plan is to release it early 2006.
Title: Re: New album Post by: Stealthcamo on November 30, 2005, 09:06:38 PM Hey thanx for responding so fast! Really they're really working on an new album huh, SHUPER SHWEET!!!! I wonder what kind of stuff will be on it.
Title: Re: New album Post by: metallex78 on November 30, 2005, 09:21:51 PM There's nothing set in stone, but apparently they have ALLOT of ideas from jams at soundchecks and stuff like that from the last tour, so it was just a matter of them sifting through them and turning them into songs.
Slash and Duff also said in an interview not so long ago that the new album would be heavier than Contraband, but who know's what will eventually come out... Should be good though! : ok: Title: Re: New album Post by: RichardNixon on December 01, 2005, 02:53:55 AM Every band always says the new album is "heavier" than the last. Any word on a producer?
Title: Re: New album Post by: Irish gunner II on December 01, 2005, 06:15:42 AM Every band always says the new album is "heavier" than the last. Any word on a producer? I hope they produce the new album better then the last. Contraband was great but it seemed rushed. Title: Re: New album Post by: SADIS on December 01, 2005, 06:39:17 AM Every band always says the new album is "heavier" than the last. Any word on a producer? I hope they pick a better producer than on Contraband. And I hope they replace heavy with melody and diversity en we might get an amazing album..... Title: Re: New album Post by: Smoking Guns on December 01, 2005, 09:21:15 AM I want Mike Clink. I agree, heavy is okay on a few songs, but GNR's greatest tunes were not heavy. Is YCBM their heaviest tune? Right Next Door to Hell? Either way, maybe he means Heavy as in "deep." Like that is some Heavy Shit. Who knows. I don't like Slash as a "metal" player, I like him more of a blues rock player. He can do Metal fine, but with the exception of YGNR and Fall To Pieces, the rest of the album was a newer more metal Slash. I liked it, but when he gets to the solo of Fall to Pieces, that is the Slash I remember. I do love the solo to Slither though. Maybe the can cover Hey Joe for the new album. Now that would rock!

Title: Re: New album Post by: Deez Nuts on December 01, 2005, 05:46:15 PM I think they're working on their 2nd album now (they're very quiet about it) and I think the plan is to release it early 2006. This is purely just my opinion, but I don't see them moving on anything til late 06.? They weren't exactly the most rushed band in regards to their first album as they took their time releasing that as well (granted they needed time to do PR work).? I know the guys love to play live but they have families now and I can't imagine they are too excited about getting on a bus for another year and a half straight.? And you're right, they do seem very quiet about it for some reason.? On a sidenote, I'm extremely curious to see what Scott is going to do lyrically in the next album.? How many more songs is he going to write about his drug abuse (when he hasn't done that in over 2 years) or him getting back together with Mary and the kids (which has been over 2 years).? If there's 11 more songs on this next album about those two things like Contraband then I admit I'll be disappointed.? Title: Re: New album Post by: Evolution on December 01, 2005, 06:06:04 PM Perhaps the new album will feature lyrics about his new life, new friends and seeing the world and loving life?
Title: Re: New album Post by: mikegiuliana on December 01, 2005, 06:50:16 PM I really don't care about following lyrics.. I just love to rock out to a good song.. Many tunes I love could be talking about anything, I just like the overall song..
Title: Re: New album Post by: Smoking Guns on December 01, 2005, 07:35:47 PM It would be nice if he had better lyrics, but out of everything, that can be overlooked the most. I wonder if Come On Come IN will be included. Its an okay song. I like Matt's drumming on it.
Title: Re: New album Post by: Thorazine Shuffle on December 01, 2005, 08:15:44 PM I think the new album will be better than Contraband. I would like to see Brendan Obrien, STPs producer at the helm though.

And Strats are alot bluesier than LP's..... Title: Re: New album Post by: tomass74 on December 04, 2005, 08:04:32 PM I also vote for Rick Rubin to produce the next album....... I think he would pull some crazy shit out of these guys...
Title: Re: New album Post by: Falcon on December 04, 2005, 09:09:02 PM If it isn't better than Contraband, the band's career is in serious trouble. The bands career will be just fine if it equals "Contraband", record labels like things like double platinum sales, multiple hit singles and successful tours... Title: Re: New album Post by: Smoking Guns on December 04, 2005, 10:37:40 PM Fuck Strats. This is a rock band, not a blues band or a country band, or a punk band. Les Pauls are for rock, and this is a rock band. All I ask for is for some more blues based rock. I think this is where Les Pauls shine. Look at Clapton in Creme, he played a Paul, not a strat. When he picked up a strat, his balls shriveled up inside him. Les Paul through a Marshall is so key to Slash's tone and I love it. If he wants a mean sounding Strat, he just picks up his BC Rich anyway.
Title: Re: New album Post by: Falcon on December 04, 2005, 11:22:32 PM Its different this time. Back then, they were the "in" thing, the "flavor of the month",etc. People didn't really care if the album was great. There is always more pressure when doing a second album. There are much higher expectations with this next album, and believe me, their career will suffer if they dont come up with something better than Contraband. Have you ever heard of the sophomore jinx? I see where you're going and agree to an extent... However, expectations were high to begin with and they succeeded on all levels. Equaling the success of "Contraband" will be more than enough to keep the band moving forward. Title: Re: New album Post by: Timothy on December 04, 2005, 11:54:09 PM One thing a pray happens is that the song from the Fantastic four soundtrack isn't on the new album.

Yeah, I see what you mean. It would mean they were desperate for material, and we would be getting Contraband Vol.2. :crying:Title: Re: New album Post by: RichardNixon on December 05, 2005, 12:27:36 AM Could never get into that song, don't even remember what its called.

I know, this topic is better suited for "Nice Boys", but i couldn't help it. Title: Re: New album Post by: MAD at NASCAR on December 05, 2005, 07:30:00 PM listen to train sucker blues. slash recorded that with a strat.
Title: Re: New album Post by: Smoking Guns on December 05, 2005, 08:03:35 PM Ya, a Strat through a juiced up Marshall was on that song. I am a les Paul guy all the way. I guess with Slash it wouldn't matter much because Amps and pick ups determine 90% of the sound. I just prefer the sound of a Paul. Just listen to Slash play Hey Joe at the UK awards. Jimi used a Strat, that went through a Marshall, but when clapton played one it sounded weak. Also CLAPTON PLAYED A LES PAUL IN CREME!!!!!!!!!! AND GUESS WHAT, IF HE DID PLAY AN SG, IT IS JUST A LIGHTWEIGHT LES PAUL TO BEGIN WITH ANY WAY. That is why the SG was created, as a lighter Les Paul and they cut away the top part to give it a cooler look and help in the weight dept. The SG had very similar, if not the same, pickups as the les pauls.
Title: Re: New album Post by: -Jack- on December 05, 2005, 08:09:23 PM Wouldn't it be weird if VR tried something "more serious" ala the guns back in the UYI era? Do you guys think theres any chance of that?

And I would have to say that SG's sound nothing like LP's.... Title: Re: New album Post by: Smoking Guns on December 05, 2005, 08:17:04 PM Really?? When I hear AC/DC, it sure sounds like a gibson to me. Acutally, similar to a Les Paul, but Angus uses les gain then Slash, so maybe that is the difference.? Black Sabbath?? Doesn't sound like a Paul?? Sounds pretty dam close to me.? Alot of SG's came with tremelo bars and those things actaully take away from the tone of a guitar because they are not connected to the body.? Unless Slash is going to be playing SRV or lots of whammy, why should he use a strat??
Please advise, what would VR gain?? I wonder what Zakk Wylde would look like with a Bulls Eye Strat?? THat is what I thought. For information on Creme Era Clapton, please view the following link. It tells you of the guitars he used and sounds they created. http://www.dinosaurrockguitar.com/bios/Clapton.shtml Title: Re: New album Post by: Captain P?l on December 06, 2005, 02:40:48 PM does the guitar he uses even mean anything? slash could use the Variax guitar if he wanted for me, as long as he uses a cool guitar live.... on album it doesnt mean jack shit what he uses..
slash used to do Walkock's before les pauls.... warlock are some cool guitars the sound is all that matter... the music should speak, not the apperance/look of his guitars... Title: Re: New album Post by: Thorazine Shuffle on December 06, 2005, 05:26:11 PM I've been playing guitar almost 20 years and I can tell you this.. 80% of a guitarist tone lies in the fingers, not the rig he uses. Clapton got soft, it wasn't him switching to a Strat. Slash would still have the "Slash" tone plugging a Hondo into a sears amp.
Title: Re: New album Post by: Carlos_f_Rose on December 06, 2005, 07:43:29 PM Wouldn't it be weird if VR tried something "more serious" ala the guns back in the UYI era? Title: Re: New album Post by: RichardNixon on December 06, 2005, 08:25:30 PM I'm hoping the new album will be like "12 Bar Blues" but with more guitar.
