Title: The last song on each CD... Hints?
Post by: ryan_of_lax on November 30, 2005, 05:36:42 PM
I remember someone talking about this on GNR Online a few years ago.. So I figured I'd bring it up.

The last song on each Guns N Roses CD foreshadows what is to come on the next CD...

AFD: Rockit Queen is definitely a two part song... One part heavy, and one part "nice."

Lies: Lies was a 2 part CD, one being really heavy and raw, while the other half was laid back acoustic music.
Lies ends off with One In A Million, which was the first song to feature acoustic piano in it...

Use Your Illusion 1: The acoustic piano pops up on several songs, and is most definitely the biggest change in sound from Appetite.
UYI 1 ends off with Coma, a very long and complex song.

Use Your Illusion 2: Most of the songs were very long (much longer on average than UYI1), and this CD had more complex songs like Breakdown, Locomotive and Estranged than UYI1 had...
This CD ends off with My World, a song that was totally ahead of its time, being that it was the first major commercial Industrial release (The Downward Spiral was still 3 years away...)

So... Should it really surprise you that Chinese Democracy was supposed to have Industrial influences? People should have saw it from the start based on the previous CDs.

Axl was a big Nails fan as far back as 90/91. It's no secret that he wanted to have elements of that direction at one point. In 2006? Who knows?

Yup.  Spaghetti Incident ends with 2 tracks in 1, so Chinese Democracy is going to be a double disc.  I thought everyone knew that.

Lies ends off with One In A Million, which was the first song to feature acoustic piano in it...

-> UYI

A brillant link that was, part of what makes the song a true work of art. I think a lot of people didn't get it though, both the song and the connection...

Look At Your Game Girl -> Charles Manson -> Beatles fan -> Come Together Beatles cover with Springsteen (last performance for a long time) -> Catcher In The Rye (said to be a Lennon tribute) = first rack on CD?

Hm...  ???

 ;D

Wow, how do you guys think of these things. You really have nothing else better to do?

Axl did like NIN in '90/91, but remember, that NIN only had Pretty Hate Machine out at the time... It wasn't until Broken came out in 92that Trent really started mixing rock and industrial. Most songs on Pretty Hate Machine were pure keyboard/drum machine.

I think the whole last song thing is a pretty cool coincidence. To me, it certainly beats another "Can we ever understand the Messiah's aka Axl's mind and how he is the ultimate ruler of planet earth" thread...

Some people are particular about sequences n details. We can't be so sure that axl is not one of them.

I think this is an interesting topic.  : ok:

One point,

My World, a song that was totally ahead of its time, being that it was the first major commercial Industrial release (The Downward Spiral was still 3 years away...)

Does my world sound industrial to you?
Then, have a listen to this. death disco mix (http://www.johnnyrotten.com/downloads/freedom.mp3) Is it industrial as well?
Did NIN start the industrial?
Ahead of what time was it? ???

I hear
 >the murderous fiend, Manson was obsessed with the Beatles with total misinterpretation of the song meanings. His fav song, "helter skelter" is a great hard rock piece by john Lennon.
 >the assassin, Mark Chapman was holding his fav book "catcher in the rye" when he shot John Lennon. the novel is great.

 I wonder what the writers thought of these dreadful homicides?they are the last people a writer would wish to be their fans. unfortunatly loonies are everywhere.

 Nutty ego-tripping Fans are terrifying as hell. They stalk you. They send your friends razor blades enclosed with threatening letters. I hear some actor was slashed at his pretty face by a fan.  I shit you not.

BTW,
I didn't know of these.

1. Kasabian took the band name from Linda Kasabian who was one of "Manson's family" and a star witness in the court.

2. Manson released an album to finance his defence and it was titled "Lie".
After axl heard about the "lie" album from Brian Warner(Marylyn Manson) who sampled  "Mechanical Man" off the album into the track "My Monkey" on his first album, he picked "Look At Your Game Girl" as a hidden track put after the last song of TSI.

Actually, the song was written and sung by Paul McCartney. I don't like to nitpick but it's my favourite Beatles song ;)

That's Manson's version. Axl's version is he first heard the song in a blind-test contest. The song was brought by his brother's Stuart ;)

Well  maybe reading too much also but:

1. In AFD, you can read in the lyrics at the end: "With your bitch Slap rappin' and your cocaine tongue you get nuthin' done" that obvioulsy appears in the Illusions in "you could be mine".

2. In UYI you can read behind the names of the photos the sentence "Aint it fun" that is one of the songs of the "Spaguetti Incident"

Correction: UYI2 ends off with My World, a song viewed by most as awful; followed by TSI? viewed by most as awful...  :peace:
