Title: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: RichardNixon on November 20, 2005, 09:34:20 PM I thought they were good, esp "3 Sides." Got lumped in with Warrant and Posion etc, which wasn't really fair.
Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: Walk on November 20, 2005, 10:16:55 PM He Man Woman Hater has one of the best opening solos ever. They're a mixed bag overall, though. Some of their songs are good, but some are abyssmal. More Than Words is awful.

Gary Charone (sp?) the man who ruined Van Halen :'( Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: gilld1 on November 21, 2005, 11:03:43 AM Unfortunately, I do.

Van Halen was ruined wayyyyyyy before Gary got there. Agree on that, but I do like VH with Sammy Hagar on topic I only remember more than words, apart from that nothing, only the tribute to Freddie which Gary sang Hammer to fall and it was quite descent  Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: Izzy on November 21, 2005, 02:31:05 PM They were just a Van Halen rip off really - when u listen to them its hard to get passed the obvious fact they are trying to be Van Halen and not doing it as well, though the guitarist is great

I liked Van Halen 3. Not a fan favorite by any means, but a misunderstood album. Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? I think it wasn't fair to Warrant and Poison. :) I remember them and I really didn't like them. Especially More than words. I actually heard an instrumental version of that song in an elevator. No joke. Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: Eeebs on November 21, 2005, 10:58:18 PM I liked a few of their singles... back in the day, 1993, I believe :)
Whole Hearted and More than Words were really sweet, simple songs. Brings back memories of early teenage crushes. Those were the days :) Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: Rob on November 22, 2005, 12:10:07 AM A friend bought me 3 Sides as a joke. There are some pretty good songs on it, but there's some pretty crappy ones too. I do agree that they are a Van Halen soundalike. Personally I'd take Poison or Warrant over them any day.

Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: Hammy on November 23, 2005, 12:46:33 PM Used to like them a fair bit actually.
3 Sides To Every Story was a fair decent effort, i love the track Warheads. : ok: Pornograffiti was ok to as has been said, some good songs some awful, they were a very mixed bag. There is a fine line between good cheesy rock and bad cheesy rock, they slipped into the bad a fair bit. There not bad to listen to just for old times sake but there were so many bands that did what they did but BETTER so i'd only dig out an old record of theirs if i was REALLY stuck for something to listen to.... Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: jameslofton29 on November 27, 2005, 10:32:43 PM The only song I liked from them is 'Rest In Peace'.

Post by: RichardNixon on November 28, 2005, 02:58:21 AM "here's a band called Extreme, some total shlock rock band" Chris from Nirvana live tonight sold out!! :hihi: Extreme were NOT cool when '92 came around. Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: Skeba on November 28, 2005, 07:04:30 AM I'm a fan to some degree. Own Pornograffitti, 3 sides to every story, and waiting for the punchline. Oh and I have the best of too, which has a nice version of Cupid's Dead.
Nuno is one of my favorite guitarists. Unbelieveable stuff. I really like almost all their songs. I have only heard Kid Ego and Play With Me from the first album. Nuno has unbelieveable riffs. The thing I really like about in his playing is that he's a really melodic player, and his riffs keep you busy through out the song if you're playing along. I haven't even touched his solos yet. A special mention to Rise N' Shine as a whole.. It's just awesome from the beginning to the end. Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: RichardNixon on November 28, 2005, 04:05:52 PM The first Extreme album sucks.
Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: mrlee on November 30, 2007, 11:11:23 AM they are reuniting.

Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: GNRreunioneventually on December 01, 2007, 12:59:50 PM What the Hell?
where the fuck did Richard Nixon go? HTGTH has lost one of its colorful posters. he's probably sticking his face in some girls asshole right now anyway back on topic: Extreme i thought were a decent band but for having the name "Extreme" they weren't really that Extreme. ya know? :peace: Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: bazgnr on December 01, 2007, 01:01:07 PM It's kind of funny that they're reuniting, since Nuno refused to be involved in any way with VH1's "Bands Reunited" show. ? They tracked down all the members - even original drummer Paul Geary, now a manager for mostly nu-metal acts - and they all essentially said, "There's no way Nuno will do it." ?And he didn't.
Then he shows up in Perry Farrell's Satellite Party (wtf?!?!), which turns out to be fairly short-lived, and he quits/was fired/whatever. Now, Extreme announce a reunion tour and new album. ?Me, I was a big fan in the day, most due to Nuno's guitar work. ?I stopped after "3 Sides," as I thought "Waiting for the Punchline" was a horrible album, at least what I heard. ?I'll be curious to see what they do from here on out, although I wonder why Geary isn't a part of it... Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: The Dog on December 02, 2007, 01:56:01 AM compared to other bands during the same time period extreme was one of the better acts out there. nuno rules and cherones vocals were pretty good. their first album is really good and the next two had some great tunes as well. i do think they unfairly got lumped in with all the hair metal bands.
one of the worst band names ever though. is there any product that hasn't been called "extreme" something? :hihi: Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? III sides to every story....the first quarter of it is good. this is explained if you read up that it was intentionally a triple album but had to be cut. so the first disk would have been all rock, so when its cut you only get a few rock tracks. the rest change, you get piano tracks n other shit after it which bores me. Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: GeraldFord on July 02, 2008, 05:50:01 PM Extreme has a new album out 8/12, it's called Saudades de Rock. If you go to http://www.myspace.com/extreme you can check out the new song "Star," and it's pretty good. Sounds kind of retro--kind of pop-metal-ish. It's pretty good, if not great.
Listening to "Hole Hearted" from their myspace page for the first time in AGES--still a great song. Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: mrlee on July 02, 2008, 06:02:29 PM i liked star upon first listen, but hated the chorus.
other than the chorus is a cool song Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: bazgnr on July 02, 2008, 06:20:17 PM Extreme has a new album out 8/12, it's called Saudades de Rock. Title: Re: Anyone remember Extreme? Post by: bazgnr on August 13, 2008, 12:34:36 PM Okay, the album is out. I'm definitely on the fence as to buying it or not. Anyone have any opinions to offer?

We're kind of disappointed in ourselves that we haven't released something yet, because we have so much material, and we've been going back and forth... I'm happy to say that we have a good actual vision right now of what we want to do. We have a good 20, 25 songs that we're almost wrapped up with. My goal is that by the fall, we have a new album out." |
