Title: Question about free music dowloads
Post by: jameslofton29 on November 11, 2005, 10:23:00 PM
Do you guys know of any free music download sites where you can get songs without having to install their program(kazaa, blubster, etc)? When I installed those on my computer, it really slowed down the internet, so I deleted those from my computer. I would like to know of some sites where you can download alot of songs without having to install their shit on my computer.

jameslofton29, I used to have kazaa which put all sorts of crap on my old PC. So I kept the old kazaalite file on CD and installed it, and use it with no problems.

You could search Google, must still be around somewhere. Or I'll send file over MSN if you like.

Soulseek users tend to have more albums (instead of single songs) and have their songs at 192 kbps, a higher quality than most kazaa users' mp3s. It also has a lot of underground punk and metal fans. Avoid kazaa, since you'll get a lot of misnamed files and other problems.

understatement there lol

you can go power user and use bittorrent no spyware in the program..... however you have to search websites that are bittorrent capable and dl there tracker then the song... bit more of a pin and usually only good fro larger items

www.limewire.com

Go for this. Yes, you do have to download the software but it doesn't slow the internet down all that badly. Plus it's totally free.

I don't know about the others, but I do get single songs (studio, not bootleg) from kazaalite etc.

If I'm really a fan I'll download in best quality from itunes if it's something I really want.

It's been happening for the last 10 years so I don't know why you're really worried. It's a great way to test out material and see what a band is all about. If you really become a fan, you tend to buy the albums later anyway. I don't know about you, I don't have the money $30 (Australian) to take my chances on something I may not like.

I don't have that kind of money either, but I thought the radio was for giving bands exposure. I'm not ragging on you but you're essentially going into a shop taking an apple, eating it and only paying if it tastes good? :-\

Yep. It's called 'try before you buy.' And besides. I don't eat the whole apple before buying it. I only take a bite. And, if I like what I
hear
taste, then I will buy the whole thing.

That's fine if the musicians allow it or approve of it, but most of them don't.

Define a bite? :hihi:

While cd's cost 16.99 in HMV i think stealing music is only to be expected - a fiver for an album would be fair, at the prices they charge what do they expect. They are happy to rip us off but when we do it to them they cry foul

ps. i don't copy of the net - the inevitable virus and spyware etc takes the fun out of it

Just under a thousandth of a kilobyte.

or

About 5 or so megabytes.

(That's not true though, it's normally more...)

A few songs, maybe.

To bad you don't have a Best Buy over there. I never pay more than $11.99 for a new release.

The radio is for angsty goth emo kids and dropout skate punks. P2P actually has a few good bands if you know what to look for. Radio has always been bad.

According to who?  Good musicians shouldn't worry about people downloading their music... people will still flock to the store if the album is good, and people will go to their concerts (where more money is made).

Now Izzy2, if you were planning on striking a deal with a record company to give you a "troubled youth" image and overplay your one catchy song to lure people into buying an album that's 90% filler, then you should worry!   :nervous:
