Title: UYI on vinyl/should UYI be remastered/remixed?
Post by: RichardNixon on November 09, 2005, 08:37:13 AM
I saw copies of both Illusion albums on vinyl record--both double albums, our records total. Anyway, has anyone here heard what they sound like? I've noticed sometimes that a record will sound better than the original pressing of a CD. For instance, the Cure records sound way better than the Cure CDs (before they were remastered). Do the UYI albums on vinyl sound rawer or otherwise less glossy? Any difference. Also, isn't it about time both albums got a remastered treatment? Perhaps they should be remixed, like the Beatles "Let it Be."

i think it really depends on the system you listen too it on i cant comment on the illusions as i listened on a shitty system but i know Metallicas Black Album sounds better on vinyl than cd it seems richer deeper and just that little rougher. As for a remix of the album the way things are going we will probably see that before CD :'(

I cant comment on the UYI records as I only own them on CD, but I finally tracked down Appetite on vinyl for 25$ last month and once you hear that bad boy on vinyl, there aint no going back to cd! Its the same with any vinyl in my opinion though, the listening experience is far more intimate as you feel like the band is playing right in front of you. Your absolutely right about the UYI albums needing to be remastered, then theyd sound pretty epic. UYI 2 doesnt really bother me, but there just something about UYI 1...it just sounds to overdone and overdubbed.

I listen to the UYI in my car and at home in my BOSE. I love it.
Not sure about the LP's.

AFD sounds a lot better on vinyl, especially the rhythm section. The remastered tracks on the GH give an idea of how huge the difference is, but still the vinyl sounds better. Can't say anything about UYI, never heard it on vinyl.

The thought of hearing anything from GNR on vinyl is titilzzzzating!!!
I listened to a record LP recently (Jefferson Airplane at my cousin's house) for the first time in like 15 years and I was struck by the "fullness" of the sound quality. It was also a great LP stereo so that could have done something to the sound.

Anyways, I would definitly consider at least sampling GNR on vinyl.

MNR

THE DRUMS on the Use Your Illusion albums should be remixed. I've always though that Matt Sorum's drums sounded too loud compared to the other instruments. It's quite inequal. It's shocking on "yesterdays" for exemple. The drums sounds too brutal. I prefer Steven or Brain's drums sound. they are lighter and more groovy.

Agree with you, i think those parts should be remix and not too loud.

Doesn't Jarmo have the LP editions of UYI?

I have them on LP but never listened to them. I hate to open them. My grandma has a record player, maybe I'll listen to them the next time I go over there. Doesnt opening the LPs reduce their value? Oh well, fuck it. The unsealing of my UYI LPs onto my grandma's record player starts NOW!

Great on vinyl, they do sound better, not considerably but they do all the same.  I adhore vinyl it really is the sound of greatness it provides a fuller sound!
