Title: Ugly Kid Joe
Post by: Jaded on September 07, 2004, 04:59:04 PM
The title ses it all.
I like them n think that people who have just heard they're too big singles 'everything about you' n 'cat's in the cradle' probably think they were just a '2 good songs n a load of tripe kinda band' but after listening to 'the collection' i really like them.

Nice title for the thread :P  As ive said before in numerous threads for this band they are one of the most underated bands ever.  America's Least Wanted track-for-track is an outstanding album and there is much more to them than just singles like Cat's In The Cradle, Neighbor & Everything About You.  They successfully managed to incoperate humour and good music together something that the likes of The Bloodhound Gang & Tenacious D have failed to do.  They do a hilarious version of the Oompa song from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory.  I've also found Menace To Sobriety & Motel California to be very good albums although not to America's Least Wanted's standard.  If you look inside the booklet that comes with The Collection you'll notice the Guns N' Roses references.

I see UKJ as a sort of Guns/Nirvana crossover. I dunno why, I just do. I think it has something to do with the Guns-ish guitarness and the grungey/surf dress sense. They're more Guns-ish though because they're more fun than Nirvana.
UKJ - Underrated. Definitely NOT bollocks!

Remember these guys? I liked them. Sort of like the bridge between hair-metal and grunge.

Well then do yourself a favour and go look for America's Least Wanted, it's a classic!

I always had a feeling their only problem was - they were around at the wrong time in the wrong place.
UKJ,  Faith No More,  Soundgarden,  perhaps even Pearl Jam a little and even Red Hot Chili Peppers ahd a problem that they were around when Nirvana,  Gunners and Smashing Pumpkins ruled the world with Metallica.
I mean,  honestly,  how could anyone get passed the big three!?
RHCP made it huge in 1990 but they dissappeard again till 1999, when nobody was around.
I have seen 'BEST OFF'  (would have to look around for the real title),  in a cd shop few years ago,  immidiately Everything about you popped up in my mind so I bought it.
They were not as good as the magnificent 3,  though,  they were ok and it is too bad they are not around anymore.
I mean,  check out Black Crowes,  even they couldn't make it that time, despite having a hit like Remedy...
