Title: Duff Mckagan singing...
Post by: Carlos_f_Rose on October 28, 2005, 10:30:43 PM
Hi everyone How are you doing?
? ? What do you think about, Duff singing new original songs in the new Velvet Revolver album, for me that would be great!. One or two should be cool, I have always liked his voice, and now we have that chance, remember songs like Believe in me, or what he did later... anyway some people like  it, some others loath it, I love it....
What do you think ;)? : ok:
?

I thought bout that ages ago, yeah i always wanted him to sing for VR, do it in a "attitude, new rose"  styled voice.

I think he should stick to bass and maybe sing backing vocals. So fine is one of my least favorite tracks off UYII because I don't particulary like his voice. I don't like Believe in me either. I saw him with this band in late 93 when he was promoting his solo record and it kinda sucked. He couldn't sing live - that had to to with the fact that he was bloated as a ballon back then and was very out of shape.

This is a great idea! Hopefully VR has already thought of it and are implementing this plan. Having Duff sing on a couple of songs cant hurt anything. Hell, I wish he had been on a few of Contraband's songs. If its just another typical rock record, VR is gonna need a gimmick like using Duff for vocals to equal Contraband's album sales. Because if it ends up being Contraband vol.2, I'm not buying it. If its Contraband 2 with a few Duff vocals, I'll consider buying it.

Agreed.

The farther away from a mic Duff is, the better.

Scott will not have it. He wants full control over lyrics since he sings them. I doubt he'll let Duff have an entire song

I really hope duff sings a couple of songs on the new record, I like his voice

That would be cool. If they come up with a fast punk tune, that should work for Duff.

I like him more on this ground, writing some of the stuff but just backing vocals  :smoking:

I have always been partial to Duffs vocals as well.  Always enjoyed them.

They've improved since GN'R as witnessed by the Loaded record.  He can actually articulate now.

Would be good to hear something. Maybe as a b-side to a single from the new album? A Duff vocalized tune?

I like Duff's singing.
I liked it with GNR. His best was singing on "Its So Easy" on Live Era 1987-1993 with Axl.
If there are any new ideas, I hope VR is considering all options. They have a lot to live up to after their first record.

Mark, "alot to live up to"?? Dont give them any pressure! Do you really want VR to take 12 years trying to make the perfect record? :hihi:

I think that there are a lot of things that we havent seen in Contraband, such as better Scott lyrics and music, wich with a mix of the guys talents, will certainly be something excellent, and now, I personally would like to listen to Duff sing, he has got an excellent punk voice, and if he decides to use it, well It would be almost like a gnr song. well maybe Im dreaming too much.

I love Duff.  Attitude - that was great and he sounded very good.  Very punk.  However, with all due respect to him, there's a reason why he plays bass & doesn't sing lead..... (let's leave it at that!)

Don't know about that one.
Know something else,  thought...
LET SLASH HANDLE THE WRITTING PROCESS!
VR needs what Slash' done best in GNR and 'Pit days,  blues sound and long solos!!!

I think Duff is a great singer, he has a great vibe. Granted back in the Believe In Me era he was a mess but that is a great album to listen to . After Duff got clean his vocals greatly improved imo. His vocals on Dark Days are top notch. When i first got Contraband i actually thought Duff was singing lead on Spectacle. Anyhow you can hear Duff alot on Contraband. Not to turn this into a GnR thing at all but that is the one thing that i really miss from the new Guns is Duff's backing vocals.

Duff has a great punk rock voice, he sounds great on TSI tracks New Rose and Raw Power, and the songs he sang on the Neurotic Outsiders album sound great too.
VR are very much a band, so I don't see why Duff couldn't contribute some vocals or at least backing vocals.

I think Duff sounds great. He may not be a great singer but he sings well if you know what I mean... I don't think there is any need for him to sing with VR though.

I just got ahold of Loaded's live disk 'Episode 99'. I am very impressed with Duff's live vocals on that cd, it is really good, especially the songs 'Sycophant' and 'Riding Home' that were not included on BD. I listened to that back to back with a bootleg from the Believe In Me tour and it really is amazing how much Duff has improved his vocals since gettting clean. I highly recommend getting that cd if you can find a copy. It is killer.

The band was Taz Bentley on drums, Dez on guitar and the I can not remember who the other guitarist is. I have the albumn but it's at home and I am at at mom's right now. If I remember I will let you know. Both of the Loaded Cd's kick ass. Love Believe In Me. His vocal have improved and gotten better since he is sober. He rocks.

The other guitarst was Michael Baragan. Duff played bass and sang. Loaded went thru quite a few members after the 1999 release.

You've got:

Ju Ju Hounds (1991)
117 degrees (1998)
Ride On (1999)
River (2001)
On Down The Road (2002)
Like A Dog (2003)

Taz Bentley plays drums from 117 degrees till Like A Dog, Duff plays bass from 117 degrees till On Down The Road and would've been on Like A Dog aswell if he wasn't in VR.

Taz is an amazing drummer, great variety of sounds and groove, his drum tracks fit the songs great..
Ridin' Home by the way is written by Izzy just like Put You Back. But Izzy doesn't play on Ridin' Home (altough he was there at the gig when they recorded it and he took the band pictures on the album)

Duff McKagan singing is a joke.  When my band plays "Out Ta Get Me", I do the backing vocals, and I try to sound as drunk and off-tune as possible to be just like Duff!  It's hilarious!

"They won't touch me" (drunken stuper)
"You can't tell me" (even drunker)

Those backing vocals by Duff sound great. Fits the vibe of the song.

VR SHOULD have backing vocals. Duff would be fine. Almost all GN'R songs had backround vocals.. and they ruled cuz of it. It gives songs more.. "meat"

You are right Vasoline, specially in "Its so Easy" . Duff Rules, and remember when he sang You could be mine in Rio, that was great.

By the way "Capcom Vs Gnr" that's cool.
