They make them there cause most people are too poor to get a cd player... Too poor? These days, the taiwanese and Hong-Kong markets are overflowing with CDs (mostly bootlegs). They are sold on the streets, and I don't think it's foreigners buying them. Of course, it all depends of what parts of Asia you're talking about.
