Title: How much would you pay?
Post by: Scabbie on November 23, 2004, 07:22:57 AM
OK, this is a bit of a silly thread but I'm bored so I'm interested to know how much you would you pay (or what worldly possession would you trade) for Chinese Democracy, complete with 18 tracks (recorded in surround sound), a re-recording of AFD, bonus DVD 'The Making of', a personal foreword and apology from Axl for the delays to the album, delivered to your dwelling for xmas all contained in a crystal glass casing?

For all of this I'd have no problems paying ?50 (almost $100).

At this point, $20 ... and the hell with Axl.

I would pay 100 Euros only for that it would be released within the next 3 month! For your "Chinese Democracy Set" : ok:......hmmm.....perhaps 30 - 40 ?!

Aaaah that would be fantastic! I can't even begin to imagine how happy I would feel if that happened. I'm expecting just a simple CD, maybe released next year. But all that? By Christmas? Easily ?50, like you said, but I think I'd go up to ?100, possibly higher  :nervous: If it was a case of trading any worldly possession, I think I'd probably hand over my 20GB music...thing. I dunno what it's called, I only just bought it. Actually I could just take it back, get a refund, and have my ?199 back  :hihi: I think the reason I'd be willing to pay so much, is...hmm, it's just that none of the music I've bought over the last couple of years has genuinely satisfied me. Some of it has been fantastic, but I don't need to explain to some of you guys how much I want this album. I know some of you aren't too fussed, and at the end of the day I'm not going to cry if it never comes out, but it'll be such a significant event to me, when I finally get to walk into MVC, pick up Chinese Democracy, stroll to the counter, wearing a Gn'R shirt and a big grin (and maybe some trousers), and maintain that grin whilst the shop assistant swipes my cards etc.  I really can't wait until that day  ;D

It's funny to think about actually buying and listening to cd,

-it's like the future is uncertain, the end is always near
-but in the distant future i will the cd hear :peace:

but if you are working for the record company that is going to release the record I'd say I would pay 20 euro's...  :-*

that would be just a little more for what a cd actually cost,

no need for an apologie, just give us some music man 8)

wonder if it will be a little more than the previous standard, hope for something enchansed

I would pay what an album costs..  I'm sorry but these topics are so over used..

So don't post against them! I haven't seen any along the lines of what people think Chinese Democracy is worth to them.

As for the 13 million buck hole, well, I don't know what the record company are planning, but I do hope they put as much effort into the delivery of the final product as has gone into the recording of the album - what was dissapointing about Welcome to the Videos (DVD) is the lack of the special features. I'd rather pay ?50 for 'the works' as opposed to ?15 for a straight copy of the album in a bog standard case.

I said it because I've answered these a few times on other forums, it seems to be a favorite.. I replied because I was in the thread.. I just want to buy it off the shelves.

Fair enough I don't really use the other forums.  : ok:

But I think there are enough hardcore fans out there to make up a substantial amount of revenue for the record company without having to shift a large volume of records.

In a crystal glass casing?  That's pushing it just a wee bit isn't it?  I'd be happy with Axl delivering the cd in person.   :hihi:

Seriously though, I'd pay the going rate of a cd for chinese democracy, which is about 15 bucks, give or take a little depending upon where you buy.  If it's a double album, or with bonus features like a dvd or something, I'd pay a little more because you're getting a little more.  It's just an album, it's nothing important.  I love Guns N' Roses, their music has meant a lot to me, but, the album is not the end all be all of human existence.   If it's never released, I'd be cool with that.

: ok:  I like this post.  Personally, I'd pay $100 American for everything (no apology from Axl necessary).  I think the general public and casual fan of the old GNR would be willing to part with $15 for the cd, and some of them would dish out $20 for the dvd.

Hell, personally, I think Axl should start selling tours of the recording studio like good ol' Willy Wonka used to do with his chocolate factory.  I'd be there!

Let's say it was confirmed that CD is finished, but due to problems with the record company (say, no single, packaging, something) or legal issues, it would not soon see the light of day.

Somebody approaches you with a copy of the final, mastered copy and offers to sell it to you: how much would you be willing to plunk down, if you knew it was a legit copy?

In francs =

140 francs ( usual album price) chinese D
80 francs ( old album)             AFD
   45 francs ( DVD price/huge margin on it/don't complain)
30            ( by 1000 pieces minimum, glass/cristal case low coster, good margin, not worth more)
0             ( axl apologies are worth no money, just a sigh/smile/grin/tear/anything but no money)

= 295 Francs
= approx 45,03 ?

+ delivery taxes according to weight and delay for each country

I just hope we will have something like that on the record http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3O2FY6Q81WF283W4MZNL32KRNH

Listen to the music, it's a short extract of Axl doing the DJ on GTA-San Andreas, the music behind is phenomenal? :o
I can totally see Richard and Robin rocking like that on the record, with great guitar duet and solos. Energetic music.
If there's something like that on the record, in that vain, in that style, it will be giant. I'd like to hear a giant jam of the band on the record, during 2 or 3 minutes, full of guitar solos, riff, something furious and intense, like the second part of Paradise City. There's nothing like that today, believe me, it will ambrase the world. There are not enough guitar solos nowadays. Not enough guitars more generally.

I would pay the normal price for a cd. However, if I stumbled across a master copy, or an import of some kind that wasn't supposed to be in circulation, I would probably sell everything I owned to get my hands on it. Funny thing is I keep daydreaming that one day I'll go into a record store, and find Chinese Democracy, and it will be something that's not supposed to be out. *sigh* I can dream can't I?

Why would I pay anything? It isn't Guns N' Roses we are talking about.. It is Axl with bad musicians!

Just a reminder to the rest of the board:

Ignore this kind of comments from clueless VR fans. "Bad musicians".  :hihi:

Look, I just don't like that they are putting out an album and using the name Guns N' Roses.. Because it isn't..

And I think that I have the right to think whatever I want.. Does that make me clueless or stupid?

If you come to a GN'R board and among the first things you post is that, then you seem a bit clueless.

We're done with that "it isn't GN'R" subject here, time to move on.

Money doesn't equal the value this music has for me.

I'd pay whatever I could afford to pay for a copy.

However, I think 12,- to 15,- Euros for a regular music CD and up to 20,- to 25,- for a double CD or a limited edition with DVD or some other extra stuff would be a reasonable price.

If they want to sell more copies, they should sell a double CD and a Bonus DVD for 9,99 in the first four weeks and then go up to prices like above.

Like turning the "nice price" bargain thing upside down - the CD should be affordable when it is fresh and THEN become more and more expensive. This will push sales, some people will buy the "product" for the bandforbucks factor alone, others want to safe money and buy it right away and then there's the fan's who'd buy it anyway. Lots of people wil own the CD, and the better the "product" is (not only the music, but how it is presented - DVD, packaging, surround sound etc.), the more people will buy it.

What do you think?

7 quid. Thats 7 English pounds for every year we have waited! ;) (it might be more than that now!)
Its also the amount i pay for a whole host of awesome albums from various online sources and record shops alike.
Albums that have been released, albums that arent perfect, but albums that are awesome all the same.

Mr. Dick Purple, $30 is steep, but I've been waiting a long, long time.  Hell yeah I'd pay $30...but it won't be that expensive...unless it's a double-album.  It will be the best $16.99 (single album), or $33.98 (double album) I've ever spent!   8)

I'd pay a lot for a professionally edited selection of all the outtakes, mixes etc. Naturally it would have to include all the guest musicians as well (Zakk, Brian May etc). I'm sure you could have hours of fun analysing all of that.

I'd definitely pay 30 bucks for it.  It would be an obscene price, but I'd pay way more than that.

Come on people.. I payed 60 bucks for DONKEY KONG 64! Of corse I'd pay higher for C.D.

...but if its above 60 bucks.. I may or may not download tracks while I save up the money..  lol. Its not stealin long as I buy it eventually.. and I would.. I know im going to buy it the day it comes out. And I will REFUSE to read the board until I hear the whole thing 3 times through. (Unless its a trilogy.. in which case.. I'll listen as much as I can be4 I snap waiting for your reviews!)

O man thats gonna be hectic. The day C.D drops theres gonna be haters.. theres gonna be at least 500 new members (who find the site on the inside cover of C.D. which thanks the fans at heretodaygonetohell.com for their support!  : ok:) posting bullshit about "new gnr not being gnr".. theres gonna be people typing everything like THIS .. there will be people totally in love with the album.. there will be people talking about the tour... there will be professional reviews all over the place.. Rolling Stone, ect.. the "post your own C.D. review" thread will OVERFLOW with comments. it will have 20 new pages in 5 min. the "Cheers mates! ITS OUT!" thread will be full of people crying, saying "I TOLD YOU HATERS IT WOULD SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY!", and people who say "Goddamnit I haven't gone out and bought it yet!!!!"

and of corse... someone will start a "whens the next one coming thread?" at which point i will blow my head off..  :hihi:

Or.. it may never happen. But lets all rmemeber who called the "C.D's inside cover will thank the memebers at heretodaygonetohell.com". ME

First of all Donkey Kong 64 sucked ass. That was nothing but a treasure hunt and severly disappointed in the very same places that Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie excelled. I passed DK64 but it was a chore and I was thankfull when that pain ended.

As a more extreme video game comparison, I just spent over 3 g's for a 50'' HD set and will be spending $600 when the 360 drops later this month.

Honestly, if push came to shove and the only way I could ever possibly have Chinese D, is if I had to pay $600 for it, I would absolutely spend that. I wouldn't like wpending that much for it, but it would be better then the alternative of never being able to hear it.

Good point Buddha, money really is just money. We spend money everyday and spend our whole lives spending money, so what harm would it do reaching deep in the pocketbook if push did come to shove as far as CD goes. Id honestly take out a loan with the bank if I needed to get the money ASAP for Axl because the thought of passing on CD would be far more saddening than going broke getting my hands on it.
