Title: Tracii Guns talks about Axl in recent interview
Post by: jarmo on October 07, 2005, 11:16:07 AM
North Shore Sunday: Along the way you co-founded GUNS N' ROSES. How long were you in GUNS N' ROSES?

Tracii Guns: "Well, Axl started singing in L.A. GUNS when I was around 18, then we changed into GUNS N' ROSES for about a year. I think I split when I was 19, right before I turned 20 and got back into L.A. GUNS. So I did it for about a year."

North Shore Sunday: What caused the split with Axl?

Tracii Guns: "It just wasn't fun. When you're a teenager the last thing I was interested in was this really ... Axl was very volatile all of a sudden."

North Shore Sunday: Axl volatile? That doesn't sound too surprising.

Tracii Guns: "Yeah, but I lived with him for two years before that happened and he wasn't. So it was a real shock and I was the first one to run away from him. I guess I should have hung around for an extra year."

No, he shouldn't. There would be no Slash in the band. :(

You're right Voodoochild!
Fortunately, Tracii left the "Guns" in Guns'n Roses, and Slash his amazings riffs in the music  :smoking:

Hmm..I find this bit quite interesting. Something of note. ???

A bit off topic but...the remake of Cocked and Loaded...big (another) misstake. But The Brides are cool just as long Nikkis in

absent of any explanation about what he meant specifically, the way I'm interpreting this is that Axl was more easy going when they weren't in a band together.  when they were just hanging out nothing was at stake professionaly.  then when they were in the band together Axl's demands &/or ways of making his expectations known were more than Tracii wanted to deal with.

Or Axl had something traumatic happen in his personal life/family life which significantly altered his personality. :-\

How can this be?
If Hollywood Rose split up in the end of -84 and GNR was running at least in 3/85...
And supposedly the first GNR-gig with Slash&S.Adler was 6.6.85

It leaves Axl 3 months time to be in LA Guns and Tracii could have been in GNR 3 months tops

Yep Eva n Madagas, I think it's open to both the interpretations.

Tommy says something to the effect that Axl is easygoing about anything except about music. And Axl is one of the most misunderstood.
Maybe it was in those days when He determined to lead his band to the top (I don't know if it's the right word) at any cost and got really serious.

Either way, it implies that
basically he is not that very volatile guy offstage, contrary to what the media have printed on ppl's heads.

Does seem rather strange, it was a long long time ago - i'd imagine he's forgotten specifics and exact dates - hell, can u remember the details of something u did almost 20 years ago?

IF Axl is truly bipolar, (and I say if, because I don't necessarily believe it), but if he is, it is an illness that typically emerges in the late teens/early 20's.  And it can arise suddenly, without apparent cause (meaning no major tragedies need to have occurred.)

that's wrong.
Manic-depressive psychosis(bipolar disorder) is an illness largely confined to the middle and later adult years. Not many patients develop their first attack prior to their 50th year, and the peak age of onset is between 55-65 for both sexes.(Harrison's principles of internal madicine)

of course that can't exclude  the possibility of Axl being a bipolar or the possibility that he had his first attack when he was 20 years old

Its funny how GNR facts are now being distorted by people who weren't even in the band when they made it big. Whats next: Gilby Clarke's critical analysis of the Use Your Illusion recording sessions? Tracy and Roberta taking credit for the success of AFD?  :hihi:

Sorry, I don't know where you get your information, but that's just not true.  I'm not going to spout my credentials on the internet because I've always protected my privacy, but you can trust me on this one.  Average age of onset is 20.  Perhaps you've mixed up Bipolar with some other illness?  Because of all the people I've worked with, I've yet to meet one who developed bipolar disorder after age 50.

Agreed. Granted, I only did 3 years of psychology, but that's what I was taught as well.

Thanks for the inputs mates. Aren't there other illnesses/reasons than bipolar that can make a calm person irritable in the late teens/early 20's? Like some people get very moody
in their early teens.
I know brain tumours often change the personality of the case.

Sure, there are lots of things.  I just brought up bipolar because that's what he was diagnosed with at least once.  Again, I'm not saying Axl is bipolar, but I know many people think he is.  And it could easily account for a personality shift in the early 20's.

well guys, maybe if he would have stayed, GUNS n Roses, would have never been the huge band, once represented... so it is all for good....
