Title: Re: Hip-Hop Post by: 2NaFish on October 07, 2005, 03:23:46 PM i love block party hip-hop. I detest gangsta rap (except the early stuff as that was funny). Groups like Jurassic 5 and Ugly Duckling are brilliant and worthy of respect.

The two best CDs to come out all year (in any genre) are definetaly Kanye & Common, I haven't stopped listening to either of them. I'm not bandwagoning on Kanye either, I was a fan since I got the 2003 bootleg version of Dropout. Are any of you guys familiar with any Canadian hip hop? Toronto's developing a respectable scene... You've probably heard of Kardinal Offishall. I've been meaning to check out the K-os CD, the singles he's released have been amazing... very funk. Choclair is another personal favourite. AxlsMainMan, have you heard Eminem's diss track on Canibus? I guess they had a would-be beef a few years back and Em recorded a track called "Can-I-Bitch" and tore him apart. He changes a few of the words from Slick Rick's "Children's Story", here's my favourite line: It's Can-a-bitch on some "Stan Lives" shit It creeped me out at first. Man this is sick For me, being just a sick, this conflict Gets my dick harder than arithmetic Check out K-os "Man I Used To Be": http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2TQGYDXUS1VLH0ZF7ELEVU54BD BTW, I love Papoose's "Alphabetical Slaughter" Title: Re: Hip-Hop Post by: Oddy on October 08, 2005, 10:25:47 AM I hate party rap. I can't wait for it to die. i don't think it will but. considering rock has survived in some shape or form for 40 + years i think rap will just continue.
having said that. my favourite rap group/people is blackalicious. fucking awesome. they have a new album out too. i remember the first time i heard blazing arrow, i think it was the 9min track. gift of gabs opening verse. it was just nuts. fucking blew my mind. like the malmsteen of rap in a way. i like the roots too. and that guy that played with them on seed 2.0. cody chestnut. has that song called "look good in leather". bin meaning to pick up that album headphone masterpiece of his. i love tribe called quest, and what spawned from them. Q- tip, De la Soul etc. i like pharcyde too. i liked the hip hop that sampled jazzy songs funk too blues etc. Nas is good. still love nas. he never fails to put out good stuff. another fave rapper of mine is Deltron 3000. i think he calls himself del the funkee homasapien these days. he was on that colaboration recently with handsome boy modeling school with that tool from franz ferdinand alex kapranos. good song. in a world gone bad i think it was called. i like his older stuff too like virus when he was under his old name. apart from that. rap has gotten really ugly. chingy j kwon. that sorta shit. the beats gettin worse. the music is awful. sounds like they sampled it from an old nintendo game. anyone heard rev'run's of run dmc's new single. i forgot what its called. but it sampled joan jett's "i love rock n roll". fuck it was an awesome track. run dmc still fucking kings of rock despite the loss of jam master jay rip. :peace: Title: Re: Hip-Hop Post by: Eazy E on October 08, 2005, 12:48:54 PM another fave rapper of mine is Deltron 3000. i think he calls himself del the funkee homasapien these days. he was on that colaboration recently with handsome boy modeling school with that tool from franz ferdinand alex kapranos. good song. in a world gone bad i think it was called. i like his older stuff too like virus when he was under his old name. I could be wrong, but I think that Deltron 3030 was the name of the CD and it was a collaboration between Del and Dan the Automator. Regardless, the music is great! I think these two were also involved in the first Gorillaz album? I haven't listened to it yet. I know that Dan the Automator produced it. Speaking of Gorillaz, their second album was produced by Danger Mouse who made one of my favourite remix albums, the Grey Album. Some people say its "disrespectful" to use samples of Beatles music, but I think it works amazing. I actually like it better than the orignal release of the Black Album. Title: Re: Hip-Hop Post by: Buddy J.B. on October 08, 2005, 07:05:12 PM I'm not going to bitch and moan wasting my time about how I hate it unlike others but hip-hop/rap is way out of my league.

You.. didn?t, care about me And now this is how it has to be I was lost, but now I am free I?m happy cuz I found a family Whattup Em?, it?s ya biggest fan It?s not even necessary to introduce who I am by now, cuz we?re good friends Remember the letter I wrote, before Atlanta on Up In Smoke That?s the day I was gonna cut ya throat I guess my watch was broke ? cuz by the time I woke I seen my watch was twelve hours late and I missed the show But none the less I?m glad that I finally reached you Ever since the accident I?ve been dying to speak to you To tell you things have changed, and I?m a different man A different level of understanding, I?m a different Stan Things are a lot better, I promise I won?t harrass you with any letters Saying shit like ?We should be together? I may reach and start a group The industry?s full of homosexuals Slim, but I don?t wanna fuck you I got a new attitude, really, I ain?t mad at you I just wanted you to recognize I got talent too When I say talented, I don?t mean battle kid I mean storytellin, kinda like how ya album is I been attendin counselin and takin medicine They did some tests on me at NIH in Maryland They showed me techniques to help me pressure whenever I remember that crazy night when I was being reckless Drivin with a deathwish, on the bridge and I crashed into a Lexus Right before I finished that last sentence I was listenin to Xzibit?s album ?Restless? The next thing I knew I was under water and breathless I was unconscious for a second, literally dying to go to heaven till some fellas came and pulled me from the wreckage..... Title: Re: Hip-Hop Post by: Eazy E on October 20, 2005, 12:34:19 AM I have heard that diss, and its alright but have you heard "U Didnt Care" by Canibus which he wrote in redirect? Do you think you could upload this on yousendit and post the link? I'd like to hear it. Ok, so about a week ago I downloaded the Blackalicious album "Nia" (their debut). I've been listening to it non-stop! Oddy, could you recommend which of the other two albums you think I should pick up? I want to blindly buy one of their other CDs but I'm not sure which one (I don't want to sample any songs though, I want to go in fresh)... I thought I read that the new album was similar to Outkast (Speakerboxxx in particular -- one of my favourite CDs ever, btw), but I think "Blazing Arrow" has Zach De La Rocha & George Clinton guesting which I'd love to hear, too. So what should I do? Title: Re: Hip-Hop Post by: Oddy on October 20, 2005, 11:41:14 AM I have heard that diss, and its alright but have you heard "U Didnt Care" by Canibus which he wrote in redirect? So what should I do? hmmmm that really is a tough one. they're both so fucking good in their own ways. blazing arrows has tonnes of good tracks. very diverse set of tracks. its more of a collaboration with a lot of artists. ben harper, gil scott heron, Charlie 2na. every track is done in a different style. a lot of tracks are very experimental. but in saying that, if you're favourite album is speakerboxx, im thinking you would like the craft better. aaaaaah but i really have a soft spot for blazing arrow. that album blew me away. and i don't even really like rap and hip hop all that much. the craft has no collaborations really. but the main rapper gift of gab is my fav rapper. fucking amazing he doesnt really need other artists. the craft is a more solid hip hop album. seriously, can you not get both? if i had to choose, get blazing arrow. its a total gamble but. that album pushed the boundaries of hip hop and rap more than outkast or others have done so far. Title: Re: Hip-Hop Post by: GnFnR87 on October 20, 2005, 01:04:25 PM i don't listen to rap? that much anymore, the bottom line is most of it simply isn't good...there are too many average artists who are getting popular now for no reason. when i listen to rap i want to listen to the best in the business such as Eminem and Dr. Dre.? i respect Eminem and liked some of his stuff...i also love Dr. Dre's Chronic 2001 which has some sick tracks on it.
by they way Dre's new album "DETOX" should be coming out soon probably December or early '06, it keeps on getting delayed kinda like the Chinese Democracy of the hip hop world haha. i read somewhere this new album will be "the most technically advanced hip-hop album ever..." Stoupe of Jedi Mind produces..and his beats rival Dre's skills I think. Title: Re: Hip-Hop Post by: Danny Top Hat on October 21, 2005, 03:45:46 PM This is lame, rap is excellent.

Title: Re: Hip-Hop Post by: Malcolm on October 21, 2005, 05:07:38 PM OK ive never been a big person on Hip-Hop or Rap but IMO the new artists are absolutely horrible..Therre is no one that even compares to 2 Pac,Ice Cube,Dr.Dre,Snoop Dogg,Eminem,Nate Dogg,Biggie or any of them..I think the new stuff is just freakin horrible
Title: Re: Hip-Hop Post by: Eazy E on October 21, 2005, 06:39:05 PM LOL... Oddy, thanks for the...uhh.... "help". :P I guess what I'll do is head to the record store and see what they have. If they're missing either of them, I'll grab the one that's in store. If they have both I guess I'll try Blazing Arrow... I didn't know Ben Harper was on there too, how is that song?
Quote and his beats rival Dre's skills I think. Bold statement. :o I can't wait for Detox. I just hope it's not getting "overhyped"... It will be tough to follow up Chronic 2001, that CD is amazing. He's got a few years to go before it can be compared to Chinese Democracy... plus Dre is always producing a bunch of other artists. Out of curiosity, do you guys like the original Chronic or 2001 better? Quote OK ive never been a big person on Hip-Hop or Rap but IMO the new artists are absolutely horrible.. It has nothing to do with Hip Hop or Rap though, it's the music industry in general. The record companies can make a quick buck by finding someone from the "streets", throwing a chain around their neck and playing their song 50 million times on the radio. The new "rock" artists are absolutely horrible too. :-\ |
