New Zealand looks great, and I'm only a few hours away ?: ok: ?I'm going to NZ next (southern hemisphere) winter. I'd love to visit during the summer too, the scenery.. lots of adventurous stuff to do like white water rafting.

I've lived in the UK half my life and been lucky enough to see a bit of Europe, so my big dream is to visit the US and Canada someday.

Cool you should visit Ecuador specially between January and May. The beaches are great also if you don't like beaches we still have the highlands and thats also great! Specialy this place called "ba?os" where you can go rappeling, kayaking and bunjin Jumping.  : ok:

I actually spent a lot of time in Spain. : ok: ?I studied for a bit at the University of Barcelona. ?However, I still don't find myself knowledgeable at all about Spanish law. ?Especially, sentencing and conspiracy statutes.

It's funny.  My step dad is from Australia.  He says the first time he set foot in the US, he expected to see every man, woman, and child packing heat, wearing cowboy boots, and shooting off their 6 guns into the air (not literally, but that was the sort of "impression" he'd been left with).

We're sorta portrayed as a very violent, uncouth society by the media of much of the rest of the world.

I'll  be in Chile next year somewhere in Febrary for 2 weeks then I expect to be in Argentina and the carnival in Brazil  ;D

Its pure ignorance Pillferk.  Our media is horrible at portraying how America really is.  However, that problem is shared by every other nation on earth.  But such is life.

People need to educate themselves on other nations.  You can't expect CNN to do it for you.  They are only trying to sell you a product...which is manufactured news.

I will say, once he got here and realized what the country was REALLY like...well...he's still here YEARS later. :)

I would say that we, in this country, are largely just as guilty in relation to other countries.  Depiction of the former USSR, for example, in our media back in the 80's gave us a very distorted picture of what that country was really like.  Ditto on many other countries.

I forgot to add how our media misrepresents other nations.


A very politically uncorrect example would be South Africa in the 1980's.  It was assumed that every black person was being tortured...however SA actually had problems keeping black immigrants out of the country.  Now that the country has dipped into becoming one of the most violent countries in the world, our media never really talks about it anymore.  Aparteid wasn't right, I am not trying to say that.  But what they did to try to change the country worked to the benefit of nobody.

The reason why I'd like to visit Mexico is because mexicans are the warmest people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. I do business with them pretty much every day with them and I'm yet to find a rude mexican. I've been invited like 20 times already so I guess I'll accept one invitation one of these days. I wouldn't want to visit D.F. though, I'd feel kinda overwhelmed amongst 20 million people there.

That will have to wait though. My next trip is to America sometime next year to catch up with old friends.

i want 2 visit Morroco and Spain (again). Spain is a really gr8 country 4 holiday especially in the Costa Del Sol belt. i want 2 c California.

I would love to see the UK.  It would be so different to Australia! I am very interested in seeing how different, or even the same, things are over seas. Australia, despite how it seems, is very sheltered from many things I believe, both good and bad things.  So I would love to see some really different things over seas!!!  :yes:

You really are a self loathing American.  America is no more violent than any other nation.  I've been alive for 23 years and have never been raped, mugged, shot, stabbed etc.  My father was just recently assaulted BY A VIOLENT FELON IN THE PRISON where my father is a supervisor.  Point being, we have crime just like every other country.  My friend was mugged in Prague while I was not so much as threatened while in downtown NYC.  Someone should do a comparitive study comparing the assault and mugging rates between the other nations mentioned - they'll be extremely close or higher than America.  America is a great country and no one should be detered from coming here.  This isn't the wild west and you won't find trouble unless you go looking for it.

GnA, you are right to an extent.  I have never been assaulted, mugged etc....However I grew up in a suburb of a bigger city.  My family members inside the city have been victims of crime numerous times.

Outside of certain areas in our cities, America is a pretty safe place.  Inside some of our cities reveal something more like the 3rd world.  However, London is also starting to look like this.   Still though, any European big city is not nearly as bad as anything like Detroit or Gary.  That is just the blunt truth.

We got Ice Bears and Wolves on the streets in Finland. Okay, it's not really that bad, we don't have any ice bears, but there were a couple of city-wolves earlier this year.

Hey, I have had my wallet stolen on a train in Spain, and have had a gun pulled on me in Mexico.  Never had anything near that happen in the US.  Crime is everywhere.  It depends where you go.  Although, stats do show that most European crime is just petty and not of the violent sort.

It really depends how you look at it.? I live there, it's a beautiful place. I wouldn't live anywhere else in the world really. Despite the efforts by the spanish media to point Marbella as the crime capital (russian mafias, extorsion, money laundering...) it's safe and wonderful. Only the people who don't live here are the one who critize it the most. Truth is, this has been a paradise for high class tourism for the past 15 - 20 years, now it's not. But we like it this way. Not soo hectic anymore.

Im coming early 2008.  Just after I finish school.  I really want to see Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile.   But im not sure other than that?!  :)
