No they're not, Sanctuary only acts as management, and they're still under contract with Interscope / Geffen / Universal. I wonder how many times this will have to be repeated  ::)

On topic, the fact that Universal has a very complicated system of sub-labels might be a reason. Maybe they were transferred to the all-new Geffen or something.

Yeah, but i find it strange that they are not listed anymore. That was my point with the thread. I remember asking Tommy in Oslo what recordlabel they would use, and he said Sanctuary. Maybe he missunderstood my question and thought i asked what label he was under! Anyway. ..

Yes, he probably misunderstood your question. There's no doubt whatsoever as to what record company the album will be released by.

All the labels mentioned in other posts are owned by Universal Music Group, this basically means that CD can be released on any Label the UMG owns....... thats a lot of labels.

Geffen are the most likely to release the album IMO. After their buyout by Interscope, they pretty much went AWOL for a long period of time. The name still existed, but it was more a ghost label than anything else. From what I've read lately, it looks like Geffen is having a new life and is actually releasing stuff. So it's not surprising that GN'R are back under their wing.

Pandora is right...
During the last year some major restructuring has been taken place because it was recognized that interscope was not compatible for many bands formerly run by Geffen including GnR. Geffen was actually nothing more than a name but was in fact run by interscope, cause someone smart thought it could save Universal some money by bringing a ton of labels under the Interscope order.
Now Geffen is more independent again and has real management power again as well as access to better financing which would definetely enhance the release of CD.

i found this little synopsis of the whole universal interscope geffen 'thing' that i think puts it all as simply as is possible:

from http://www.wikimirror.com/Interscope_Records
Interscope Records is a record label currently owned by the Universal Music Group.  It was started in 1990 by Jimmy Iovine and Ted Fields with financial support from Atlantic Records (who owned 50% of the label.  In 1992 Jimmy Iovine assisted Death Row Records financially and reached a distribution deal with them through Interscope.  Under pressure from activist groups hostil to gangsta rap music, Atlantic sold its stake in 1995.  Interscope linked itself then with Universal.  When Universal acquired Polygram in 1993 Interscope was merged with Geffen Records and A&M Records.

So thats how GN'R, once formerly simply of Geffen, became to be an artist of Geffen/Interscope.

and for those interested, here is the 'history' of Geffen:
from http://www.rockandrollroadmap.com/geffen_records.html
GEFFEN RECORDS
Former Location
9130 Sunset Blvd

Once manager to many of the big names of the sixties, such as Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Crosby, Stills and Nash, in 1970 David Geffen founded Asylum records. Asylum's roster included the major names of the seventies and was eventually sold to Elektra, which was sold to Warner, creating WEA. In 1980, he founded Geffen Records which carried Guns N' Roses, Elton John, Don Henley, Whitesnake and the reborn Aerosmith. MCA bought Geffen Records in 1989.
