Title: Playing Bass Post by: Queen of Everything on October 02, 2005, 07:25:26 AM Hey,
I play a bit of Acoustic guitar and I have been really thinking about playing the Bass latley? Except I don't think my parents are too keen on paying for a bass if I don't end up going through with it. So does anyone have any ideas/advice?? Like whats playing bass like? Expensive? What to buy? What songs to play? Anything!!! : ok: Thankyou all so much!! :) Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: -Jack- on October 07, 2005, 02:39:44 AM Playing bass rules. =). Try it out... you have any friends with basses? Try it before ya buy.
But I love bass. I enjoy playing stuff by Rush and GN'R, but im usually making my own stuff. -jack Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Evolution on October 07, 2005, 07:36:50 PM Take it from me, nothing beats bass.
Buy a cheap one 1st and practise regularly. Play stuff like Nirvana to start out : ok: And on the plus side, girls bassists = hot  Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Queen of Everything on October 08, 2005, 01:18:45 AM Thanks guys! Is there any particular bass brand that you reccomend for a starter??
I love the sound of it so much! And i will be practicing a hell of alot. Anyother info? Some other bands to start with? I have heard a bit of ACDC? Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Oddy on October 08, 2005, 05:37:50 AM Get a Yamaha Bass.
Around $400 Australian. sure it won't look too good but atleast it wont fall to bits. If you start plaing bass your gonna remind me of that Auf Der Mar chick. The hot red head chic bassist from Hole who went solo. Also, please dont be one of those people that buy an instrument, play it as much as they can for one month then get sick of it and never play it again. You gotta stay determined. Keep that rock n roll dream in you mind every time you think "ah im no good at bass". Good luck with it : ok: Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: erose on October 09, 2005, 05:03:35 PM i would get a cheap fender or an OLP preciision. great stuff right there!
sorry to say, but bass playing is generaly so fucking underrated. which kind of makes it the coolest instrument. :peace: Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: mrlee on October 09, 2005, 06:01:52 PM bass is most excellent. It has alot of potential, i learnt that from when i watched cliff em all. Im getting a wah pedal soon *moshes*

Im getting a wah pedal soon *moshes* Now this is what I'm talking about. Burton is a fucking God. No one can come close to Cliff on Bass, not even Duff. God rest the major rajor on the four string mother fucker!!! : ok: Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Genesis on October 10, 2005, 02:39:11 AM Now this is what I'm talking about. Pity that all talented guitarists die young. Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Evolution on October 13, 2005, 03:10:53 PM The Hendrix of Bass some might say
Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: mrlee on October 13, 2005, 05:51:36 PM totally, just think how much cliff could have developed, for all we know, he might have even had his own special bass things not in this dimension?
Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Evolution on October 19, 2005, 11:49:07 PM www.911tabs.com
many a bass tab can be found there Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Slashly on October 20, 2005, 06:01:25 PM Man, nothing beats playing GnR on bass (well, maybie playing GnR on guitar but well...) just because its easy but with SO MUCH attitude.
When I think of great players I sont really thing of Billy Sheehan or that Dream Theater chinese dude, I think of Duff, Rachel Bolan, the Alice In Chains one (shit, i cant remember his name), those one with the attitude with a capital A. I`m a guitar player who hapens to own a bass so every now and then I take the old washbourn out and rock the fuck out with it.Dont listen to that "bass is boring" crap, BASS ROCKS! Baby Slash// Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Evolution on October 20, 2005, 08:13:08 PM the Alice In Chains one (shit, i cant remember his name) Mike Inez......i have him on right now :smoking: Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Sakib on October 21, 2005, 06:51:49 AM i love basses. simple and nice 2 noodle on
Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Voodoochild on October 21, 2005, 08:08:44 AM I love playing bass (I'm a guitarist, but I do play bass sometimes).. but you need to stay focus - sometimes, you may be bored playing the bass alone. Try to use some midis or even albuns to follow with your bass.
Do you want to know a great bass player? TOMMY STINSON! : ok: Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Evolution on November 06, 2005, 10:10:01 AM 2 songs i would recommend to beginners at bass are: "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers and "I Want You To Want Me" by Cheap Trick.
Both fun and are good building blocks Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: GNR_Green on November 10, 2005, 01:52:44 PM I've just invested in my first bass equipment (might start another thread on that subject). I'm a pretty noobish guitar player already, but I think that will help a bit. From what I can tell, the bass seems kind of simpler (you have to admit) but it's a totally new technique and I can tell my hands/fingers will gain in beef once I'm used to it
Can any pros out there shed some light on the pick vs fingers issue? I understand the pick is usually used for more agressive, attacking bass but I would think you can get more dexterity with finger-style? Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Mr. Dick Purple on November 22, 2005, 05:28:43 PM I would recomend you yo start with some Queen songs, as Mr. Deacon once said that he always followed up the left hand of freddie to play the bass, so that's just an advice ;). Good luck with the bass : ok:
Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: conny on November 27, 2005, 12:52:29 AM Bass? Only four strings? ???
Too lazy to play guitar, huh? j/k ;) Bass is cool, playing without a pick its fun, just the fingers you can do some really cool sounds that way! : ok: Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Evolution on November 27, 2005, 09:34:26 PM Hell yeah. Playing with your fingers adds such a moody tone quality where a pick sounds "ping ping" when you play.
Title: Re: Playing Bass Post by: Evolution on December 02, 2005, 02:03:48 PM Ok i kinda need some advice. Has anyone heard "Club Foot" by Kasabian?
Well when it's played live the bassist has a really i dunno, low and kind of gritty tone. I was just wondering what kind of pedal i would need to achieve a similar idea. Thanks |
