Title: Hurricane Katrina benefit Coulda been a start?
Post by: Axl4Pres on September 11, 2005, 03:05:54 AM
With the unfortunate events of the hurricane and what it did to the south and now all these shows that have been going on for benefits i think this could have been the start of something if Axl had said hey lets get together for a benefit or just do a song even if it was a madagascar or somethign we have heard already just to get in front of the cameras again i think it would have set up a nice lil start to hopefully the not to distant future with the release of CD would like to hear your thoughts on this.

And before anyone makes any comments about it yes i know there have been many oppurtunities im sure for Axl n Co to make an appearance i just think due to the severity of the situation that it would have been a really nice move on their part to do something like this certainly in my opinion would have opend a big light on Axl and show hes not mr. reclusive but can show his generous side not saying he doesnt now but im sure u get my point.

No offense to the "other" Axl4pres, but if the 9-11 tragedy or a tsunami that kills over 100,000 people doesn't get Axl to perform at a benefit, how is this natural disaster going to do it?

Axl is on his own schedule.  Everyone has to understand this.  He's never going to do something like this to "show he's not Mr. Reclusive."  I think he knows he is, and doesn't give 2 shits.  Sit back and enjoy the wait.

Although I would love to see GNR at any type of show, I think it would have been wrong to use a tragedy as a platform for a debut or ocmeback. It doesnt seem right. If they were alreay out on the road and the album wa sout, of course, but for now they should stay low otherwise it might rub people the wrong way.

I think people should put the whole comeback shit aside.
If Axl could have made more money for relief, then he should have performed.

That's all there is to it.
Real life isn't like this whole GNR Mystery Machine.

I see it as an opposite.. I see something like this a perfectt ime because a powerfull gnr name can bring in big revenue.. To me when you want to raise money you want big names there.. That's just how I feel.. I wouldn't have viewed this as a launch.. it would have brought these guys together for something important..

I have to agree with youngunner here. I think it's a little selfish of us to look in the face of disaster and ponder the 'opportunity' it could have been for Axl or GN'R. There's a time and a place for everything. Besides, we have no idea whether or not Axl may have contributed funds to help victims on his own.

The Pink Floyd/Roger Waters reunion was done in extremely good taste as RW, the band and Bob Geldorf are all long time friends and BG specifically asked them to help out for Live 8 (and the band, subsequently donated any sales increases of their entire catalog in wake of the performance). If GN'R were asked specifically to perform, it would have been a bit of a different story (perhaps they were...who knows), but still I say now was not the time for Axl & Co. to suddenly show up.

Prayers and donations are what is needed...rock n' roll can wait.

Hey Axl4pres2004 i totally understand im from ny so i totally know what its like living thru 9/11 the only reason i bring up this one is because its current its now and on the cusp of hopefully CD making it out finally i think it would have been a cool idea for axl and co to start somethign and on a positive not as opposed to negative stuff like what happend in vancouver in 2002
