Title: Question about TWAT Post by: jameslofton29 on September 10, 2005, 09:12:01 AM Is there any interviews where Axl discusses this song? I cant remember, and Ive been looking for an interview where he mentions it and I cant find it. I know its supposed to be about abuse. But did Axl say that? Or is that just speculation? I was looking at an 80's website last night, and one of the songs on their list was 'There Was a Time'. The date of its release was 1982. I dont remember who the band is that released it, but it was an obscure band I've never heard of. If Axl hasn't discussed this song in detail, and if there's no real information about him writing it, TWAT might actually be a cover.
Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: jarmo on September 10, 2005, 09:16:02 AM Song after song combines the edgy hard rock force and pop smarts of vintage Guns N Roses with surprisingly modern and ambitious music textures. In addition to the album's almost grungy title track, tentative song titles include ''Catcher in the Rye,'' ''I.R.S,'' ''The Blues'' and ''TWAT,'' which he says stands for ''there was a time.''

Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: dave-gnfnr2k on September 10, 2005, 11:20:54 AM I dont think Axl ever said it, but it was in an article about it where the autor said TWAT was about Axls childhood abuse.
Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: killingvector on September 10, 2005, 01:02:11 PM Zakk Wylde described the song in an interview once.
Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: journey on September 10, 2005, 01:44:00 PM I dont think Axl ever said it, but it was in an article about it where the autor said TWAT was about Axls childhood abuse. My theory of the song: There Was A Time when we were happy. So how did we get here from there? Where have all the good times gone:Ubi Sunt. He said in an interview with RollingStone magazine that it was about going through the divorce process. Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: jameslofton29 on September 10, 2005, 05:44:20 PM Where's this interview where Axl mentions it? One of you says abuse, the other says they heard its about his divorce process. I highly doubt its about both. Obviously, if Axl hasn't went into detail about the song, it could be about anything. I was just wondering if he had ever mentioned anything about actually writing the song.
Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: dave-gnfnr2k on September 10, 2005, 06:04:58 PM I never heard TWAT was about the divorce, that song is Oklahoma not TWAT. I always remember TWAT being said to be about Axls childhood abuse.
Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: jameslofton29 on September 10, 2005, 06:12:28 PM Dave, I have also heard years ago about TWAT being about his childhood abuse. But I dont remember if it came out of Axl's mouth or if it was just speculation by a reporter, fan, etc. By the way, has anyone heard that 'There Was a Time' from 1982 that I was referring to?
Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: journey on September 10, 2005, 07:25:02 PM If I remember correctly, he originally called it Oklahoma, but then changed it to TWAT.
Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: jameslofton29 on September 10, 2005, 08:35:44 PM Journey, I think you're wrong. Some think Oklahoma was changed to Riyadh, while people like me think Oklahoma is IRS.
Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: chineseblues on September 10, 2005, 08:42:24 PM Journey, I think you're wrong. Some think Oklahoma was changed to Riyadh, while people like me think Oklahoma is IRS. I think Oaklahoma is a completely different song then the ones you mentioned. Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: dave-gnfnr2k on September 10, 2005, 09:49:47 PM If I remember correctly, he originally called it Oklahoma, but then changed it to TWAT. No that was riyady and that person was wrong because on the set list for HOB it said they were going to play oklahoma but instead they played riyadh. Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: Aero on September 12, 2005, 07:06:26 PM I had the chance of asking zakk wylde few questions, trought a live chat from gibson.com
I asked him about his relationship with axl, and about TWAT. He replied that Rose is an exelent guy and he feel nothing but love and respect for him. In another interview (I really don't remember the source) Zakk said that TWAT was the best song he ever wrote. I also asked him about his entire work with axl, he replied "Just pick a black label album and put axl's voice on it" I hope that answer some of your questions :peace: Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: Dust N Rose on September 12, 2005, 07:59:56 PM Liar ;D

If Zakk says its the best song Axl has ever wrote then that confirms its not a cover.
Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: Aero on September 14, 2005, 02:11:28 PM you are welcome... peraphs Zakk said is the best son HE ever wrote (zakk)
there are LOTS of songs with the same name... just an example "Angel". I belive there are more than 20 tracks called Angel. Maybe a previous registered song with that name, made axl call the song T.W.A.T and not "there was a time" : ok: Title: Re: Question about TWAT Post by: Aero on September 14, 2005, 02:13:54 PM Look... "angel" search for power tabs...
Angel Unwritten Law Angel TV Theme Angel Jimi Hendrix Angel The Foreverlorn Angel Aerosmith I don't see why the wold can't continue with 2 songs with the same name :peace: |
