I like the sound of this! It actually sounds it may be something that is new for us to see! Kinda ironic that the release date is the 15th August and we have quite recently had a user register on this site under the user name 15th August!! I have been wandering why he/she has used that as their user name!!

Yea I had the same question.  But it seems as though that paticular user hasn't posted anything to raise a red flag though.  But I love the sentence about CD.  Could this director have any pull with Axl?

Finally, some good news!! This might tide us over for a few more years.LMAO!! If this actually has footage of Axl recording CD, then it proves the album truly exists. Which would be great news in itself. I also wondered about that August15th character. Strange thing to name yourself on this forum. I just figured they named themselves after a fake release date.

When is the last time any of the people mentioned in the synopsis even had contact with Axl? I doubt they will have anymore info about CD than we already know

Isn't this disc being put out by Chrome Dreams? I think they've done some tacky GNR-related releases in the past.

Also, people like Chris Weber are certainly the ones to ask about CD. They also get Adler while they're at it.

Well Robet John was a close friend of Axl for years and years, and He was at the Vegas shows taking pictures. Dunno if he has any contact with Axl now after that lawsuit...

Not Again!  This smells of another attempt of  the "Root of" gang to annoy Axl, using his formerly "close friends".
That's Pretty nasty.

even if this release smells like a $$$ rip-off......those people involved there surely have some unseen old band/old Axl footage we fans might love to watch!!
but near impossible there will be any CD recording footage or inside info which could help us at all....

That would certainly be nice, but keep in mind it might be footage that is considered "unseen" by the casual fan, but not the die-hards...

Have us "Die-Hard" fans seen any footage at all with Axl recording Chinese D. You holding out on the rest of us?

Shit the footage would be well worth the price of admission, as would these interviews. Kind of weird this was so closely revealed the time that bitch on MTV announced her book on Axl.

...and the August date has too be shit. That's only a little over a month a way, so thats not happening. Move on yo.

sure oh sure, if Axl didnt take 10+ years in releasing a CD, if he was more accesible to fans, etc this kind of shit wouldnt exist. But since that isnt the case other people take advantage by releasing anything they want cuz they know fans will buy in their desperate delusion that someday CD will eventually come out  ::)

exactly..  by the context it implies of the new band and as some of you have already expressed hoping - of the recording of CD.  but if this was the case it would be their #1 selling point and would surely be clearly stated.

i'm gonna look into this and see where this DVD is coming from.

here is, from their site, the image MUCH larger ?http://musicvideodistributors.com/images/300dpi/cvis389dvd.jpg

here is a review of the unauthorized DVD they did on Muse:

Manic Depression - There has been some commotion in Muse world about the new unofficial ? Tom Kirk called ?shonky? - dvd release of Chrome Dreams? ?Muse Manic Depression?. Chrome Dreams have made an unofficial biography of Muse, and therefore interviewed a lot of people who have been in contact with the band. They spoke with Scot McKenzie, a tour technician, which is the most interesting part of the dvd. He tells about the gear, and how they put special effects on the bass. They also interviewed Catherine Yates (a Kerrang! journalist), the organiser of ?Battle of the bands?, and some other more or less interesting people. As this dvd is made for fans, none of the comments are negative, in fact they all speak of how great Muse really are.

Between these interviews a woman voice tells their biography, how it all started in Teighmouth, and how they gained their success. This might be interesting for people who are not very involved with lives of Muse, but for die hard fans (like most of you) she tells nothing new, nothing we didn?t already know. It?s also a pity that they were not allowed to put music of Muse on the dvd. The songs you hear on the background are not even close to Muse? music, it features even some punk-songs. Muse? music or an exclusive interview with the band is really something that is missing on this disc. When they speak of songs like Hysteria you want to hear them but instead they play something else. A cooperation of both Muse management and Chrome Dreams would have brought a much better dvd. ? This dvd is not a must-have, but it?s worth watching.

... an indication of what can be expected of this CD.

Also

"It includes previously unseen film footage of both Axl and Guns N Roses"

This really isnt saying there will be new footage pertaining to anything Chinese Democracy at all. I'm betting it will be old footage. Most likely it will be footage from the late 80's/early 90's. I think we misunderstood this a bit. And if this is true, this dvd can suck it.

Chris Weber - ?in 1998 MTV news reported: ?" Last year reports surfaced that Weber was planning on releasing Hollywood Rose material and that Rose had blocked him from doing so. But Weber told press sources that he didn't want to release the old tapes, and that he had only called Guns manager Doug Goldstein to let him know he had them but was immediately warned he would not be allowed to release any of the material.

we all know the eventual and outcome of that...

as we also all know who Vicky Hamilton is.... or rather was not:
http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/articles/showarticle.php?articleid=2

"There's been a lot of stories about who discovered you and so on. A name that's been popping up a lot is your ex-manager, Vicky Hamilton. What's her relationship with Guns N' Roses?

Vicky Hamilton was a woman who basically had a monopoly on booking bands at the Roxy and the Whiskey, and we needed to get those gigs. We also needed a place to live. Vicky offered us help. She said she'd get us $25,000 we desperately needed for the proper equipment to start getting close to the sound we wanted. She never came through with the money; so with an important gig coming up, we got Geffen to go for a $35,000 memo deal, which means that we didn't have to sign with them but we had to pay the money back. Now Vicky's claiming that she managed us and that we wouldn't pay her back. She claims she invested $100,000 and she should be party to any of the money we make. She says we all get along, but in reality nobody likes dealing with her. Nobody trusts her. She managed the band? We - Slash, Duff, Izzy, Steven and Axl - managed the band. A year later she sued us for one million dollars. We didn't want to go to court, pay lawyer fees, court expenses and shit, especially when I don't trust the law and judicial system. I don't need the hassle. I don't believe in the fuckin' law system. I don't believe in the fuckin' government. I do believe that America is the best country on the face of the fuckin' earth, but that doesn't mean that America isn't run by assholes. Poor Vicky might look great in front of a judge, and Guns N'Roses look like slime, so they should lose. We settled out of court for $30,000, 15 of which Geffen paid."

Skip Saylor - was NOT a producer for GN'R. ?he is only credited for MIXING. ?(TSI and UYI were only mixed at Skip Saylor Recording Studio)

Robert John: ?whatever happend to that lawsuit and the photos and the money etc.
Looks like he still has his photo rights - the cover of this DVD looks like a Robert John photo
*shrugs*

but enough about Bernard Baur... let's move on

who is Barbara Church?

a "close friend"..? somthing tells me any 43 year old woman from Lafayette, IN with a tale or 2 to tell about Axl would qualify as a close friend ?::)

Okay I just watched it! Love the opening scene! Its a great clip of Axl running down a hotel hallway! The dvd was better then I thought. I loved the comments from Robert John. You can tell even though they are not friends anymore that Robert still cares about Axl. It was more  an early gnr bio than anything. And no there were no new clips of Axl or new gnr. a few still shots that we all have seen. If your a serious gnr fan you will want this for your collection. It also comes with a little Axl trivia I scored 15 out of 15. It wasn't that hard.

You will just get the standard reply "when we have something to say we will say it" or something along those lines. There are only a few people on various boards who Merck writes detailed response to, so for their sake i wouldnt bother writing.... we dont want to annoy Merck now, leave him to sort out Sanctuarys various problems!

They won't be getting any of my money.  I was stupid enough to waste $20 on Chrome Dreams "GN'R: SexN'DrugsN'RockN'Roll" atrocity.  Even if by ultra-slim chance there is something revealed that we don't know in the new DVD - it's nothing we can't live without.  Chinese Democracy still has no release date and that's pretty much the only thing I'm concerned about.

The cover picture of the DVD is fantastic. It's wembley'92 isn't it?
Axl should come back with that style, just put a jeans instead of the biker short, but it rocks! I love that style, it's the old good axl we all want to see again ?:peace:

I pre-ordered it and received it this afternoon. It is a complete rehash of everything we already know, and I thought it was going to concentrate more on Axl, but that didn't come until the very end when all the "he's an asshole, haven't you heard," comments starting pouring in. There were, however, some minor details that I wasn't aware of beforehand. I didn't know that he used to always sing in a low register and that it was encouraged by others to start singing in the faseltto one. I also didn't know that they were late for their signing to Geffen because Axl lost his contact lenses and was found sitting on top of the Whisky a Go-Go building. And another thing I didn't know about was Izzy taking a bus when they'd tour, and the rest of them flying by jet plane. There was some footage on a plane of Slash reading with his hair covering his entire face, Steph reading something, and right next to her is Axl staring all over the place in his white Marlboro t-shirt. That's pretty much it. It's a total waste of time for non-hardcore fans. But, alas, we must all own EVERY SINGLE THING with their name on it... and we shall.  :peace:

What about the commentary by Vicky Hamilton, Robert John and such?  What did they have to say?

They were both very nice. All the things Vickie said she said before. Robert made some nice comments on Axl. He seemed to be very honest.

I looked around for Reviews and found this:

Pros: awsome sounds

Cons: stupid idea

I watched this and could have done without all the
childhood drama. He (AXL) was my generation's Mick
Jagger. The coolest SOB on the planet and I wish the
director would have showed why he was the wildest man
ever in rock. Not enough detail about the riots,
lawsuits, drugs, or arrest. To much Chris Weber who
only knew the guy for a few months and has parlayed
that short relationship into life term of earning.
Weber is the ultimate begger, thief, and hanger on. He
even sued Rose.

The total lack of interviews by the people that knew him
best at the peak of his popularity like Izzy or other
bandmates is a major bumber. I would have like to hear
thoughts from people that know him now like Tommy
Stinson or Beta to find out why he is so reclusive. The
stories told here all GnR fans already know but the
studio tracks from Chinese Democracy are real cool.
The
tittle sucks. He was never pretty. Axl was a cocanie
fueld gypsy with a voice of rage that Rocked the world
with amazing lyrics.

but i thought maybe it was part of the Documentary, you know 3 seconds of it. Until i went on Blabbermouth and found this:

One of the first reviews on Amazon for this DVD says:

"Vh1's Behind the Music is practically a biography compared to this DVD. The narrator's voice is annoying and since the DVD's unauthorized, there's no GN'R music playing during the documentary."

So yea, Im gonna bet thats theres NO promo cd.

First Ever Axl DVD and Very Good Stuff, August 15, 2005
Reviewer:? ? Dave Bowie "[The Prettiest Star]" (Newcstle, England) - See all my reviews?

This is really interesting for all axl and guns fans and is great for a number of reasons. First, the contributors lie Robert John [axl's personal photographer] and Vicky Hamilton [Guns first manager] really dig deep and tell things about Axl that I didnt know and that I dont think many people would know either.
Also there are a few journalists who have met Axl and the rest of Guns who again tell stories that have never appeared in any of the books.
But the real worth of this DVd is the INCREDIBLE footage of Guns N Roses and of Axl. Apparently this is all from Robert John's private collection and has never ever been seen by anyone else ever before. It shows the band on stage live but also stuff of Axl 'behind the scenes' and is really intersting. There's also some really great footage of the riots in Canada which really show to those of us who weren't there what happened.
Theres also a bunch of extra features,. The discography , which includes bootlegs is really good.

If you're a fan you should buy this.
Thanks for reading my review.

Well, on the bright side, this might be the only place you'll ever actually *hear* studio material from the yet-if-ever-to-be-released "Chinese Democracy."

If there is CD songs in that DVD, and apparently it is up for debate. I would say their bootleg live tracks with the crowd noise edited out, to make it sound studio. The opposite of Live Like a Suicide.

It's BIG BULLSHIT... the DVD "Axl Rose: prettiest star" is an UNOFFICIAL product, then it's IMPOSSIBLE that a C.D. promo could been distributed with it... moreover that dvd is crap and doesn't give any news

Nothing (and I mean it...) new, no Axl Rose recording Chinese Democracy, it's a TOTAL RIP OFF.

You don't believe me? Go ahead, buy it, but don't come back at me whining how you've been ripped off.

I love how the one guy was like everything we know is all rumors, he doesn't even know if cd exists.. Just people saying they worked on it or heard something from it..

Sucked there was no music... Why can't axl just do a real interview for a bio..

Sounds like Chrome Dreams atrocious excuse of a documentary (I refuse to plug the worthless pile of shit so no name but you know the one).

Glad I learned from that waste of money and opted to spend my $20.00 on pizza n' beer instead.  Much more full-filling!

I rented it using my free trial to blockbuster online so while I didnt waste any money, I did waste time watching it, except for the live footage of the band.  All of it seems to be from 1991 before Izzy left and the footage is fucking great!!!  Too bad that there's no music to go with the footage although it is clear that when Axl is sitting in front of the piano that November Rain is being played.  There's also footage of Axl dancing down a hotel hallways and of the band riding a plane to a gig.   I'm also convinced that Robert John filmed the stuff.

Well, I rented the DVD so I wanted to write something about it.  I did not pay attention to the fact that the last post on the DVD was made eight months ago so I didnt really care and last but not least, no offense taken.

it'll be just another cheaply put together piece of shit. Made with the sole intention of taking our money.
i got this dvd, axl rose the prettiest star from amazon.com a couple of months ago and believe me it is a piece of SHIT! I wasted my 20 some dollars and was very dissapointed. You dont really hear anything you have not heard before, if you watched the "behind the music" on vh1 believe me that was much much better. no pics of axl or the band, just a few uninteresting people talking about very few things..just trust me-dont waste your money. : ok:

I bought this earlier this year.  I sold it on ebay 2 weeks later.  Why?  Because it was a piece of shit.  Don't waste your money.  There's nothing new in it.  An odd clip of film with the band on the plane travelling between gigs and that's it.  It's crap.  Save your money.

I can't believe so many people haven't heard about this piece of shit. Don't waste your money. What I find surprising is that Amazon only has the good comments posted on it. A few months ago, all it has was the bad ones. This is garbage, there's nothing new on it, other than a bunch of out-of-touch losers trying to rake in a few extra bucks tellings stories about Axl that may or may not be true. In addition, there isn't any footage or live songs. Another piece of shit, is the Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll documentary on the band.
