Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Doug Goldstein is a regular at my sisters work.  He always talks to her and one of her friends because they are always wearing band shirts.   They talk about different stuff.. but here is how she said the conversation went about Chinese Democracy... took place about a month ago..


Sister: Do you know when Axls new album is finally comming out?

Gold:  I hear it's really comming out sometime soon.

Sister:  Yeah, I've been hearing "soon" for years.  It's been about to come out for 5 years.

Gold:  No,  I REALLLLLY hear it's comming out soon.


I think that's pretty good info.  The best info I've heard in a while from a source I can trust. 

Doug Goldstein is retired though, nice car, nice jewelry...  travels the world and "hangs out"...    must be nice.

Well its only another rumour! But why not eh! Sounds positive, one of the rumours will eventually be true!

I cetainly dont place blame on him, but I wouldnt give credence to anything he says about the album, especially now.

Dougs been out of the loop for awhile. Unless he heard this info from Axl i wouldnt put any credence to it. Doug was Axl's right hand man for a long time, but got almost no results out of Axl.

Doug was the best GN'R Manager, he should come back and show Merck how GN'R should be managed.
Merck is maybe a nice person but I have the impression he is not a competent person.

what makes merck less competent than doug goldstein?

and i think doug was right about the 99%/80% done, but that album was scrapped.

Goldstein was competent?

According to Axl, he organized a whole European tour - twice - without even letting the leader/ singer or the rest of the band know about that. He addmitted it in a letter (that was a good thing), but that has gotta be one of the weirdest things I had read in a while.

I'm afraid management can't really do much right now because they can't force Axl to release the album, whether it's Goldstein or Merck doesn't really make a difference.

What gives you that impression?

I'd be interested in hearing your views on artist management and what makes Merck incompetent.

I think it's safe to say that not many of us here have any experience in that field....

i think it`s because of his "2005 will be the year of gnr" comment.

by the way he didn`t say that chinese democracy would come out this year.

have to agree about the competetancy thing....

 I mean, he's not new to this, and yet he said 2005 would be the year...Axl has been doing this for years, you would think the head of Sanctuary would not make these comments lightly,

at least give us an update....

I have no idea if this guy is making it up.  It always strikes me as suspicious when a GN'R fan on a forum claims to know someone or know someone who knows someone connected to the band.

I'm not saying that he's making it up, it's just the effect of all the BS rumors that had appeared from people claiming to have inside sources that make me less likely to believe.

I hope what he says is true, I just won't hold my breath.

Doug is indeed retired and lives in Hawaii where his exwife lives so that he can be close to his children. Peace

Like I said, words to live by. Dont believe any offical CD date until axls gives a month, a day and the year.

It would be great if Goldstein and Robert John wrote a book on GN'R. They must have loads of stories and it would help answer some questions that still exist over what actually went on ect. It would be a great read.
