I think Axl used to hang out with Shannon's cousin or sister or something like that

I thought Shannon added a  lot to don't cry-if you took his vocals out, it wouldn't be the same.

true stuff, they were also writing songs together for a new project....but as we all know, Shannon died...hence, they didn't finish the music.

Axl was in Shannon's sisters class in high school back in Lafayette and they kinda knew each other back there. but they didn't really become good friends till they both lived in LA.
when Shannon first moved to LA he was room mates with Axl's sister.

Shannon probably knew Paul too, who knows what he thought about him though. I don't really find that interesting either, lol.
I heard a radio interview he did in like 91-92, and he said that a lot of "refugees" from Lafayette, who lived in LA, used to meet up now and then, and give each other a call if they needed help with something and stuff like that.

oh yeah, Axl tutored the Blind Melon boys on paperwork and stuff like that, what to not sign and what to sign.
I think he helped them pick a record deal too. they ended up on Capital Records.
Rogers Stevens explained why.... "cos they gave us more money". ;D

Didn't Axl also set Shannon up with a job as riki rachtman's assistant?

BLENDER >> MARCH 2006
Ask Blender

WAS AXL ROSE RELATED TO SHANNON HOON OF BLIND MELON? I?VE READ DIFFERENT THINGS.
Freya Farlucci, Wichita, KS

There?s a lot of confusion about this:? The Blind Melon singer, who died of a cocaine overdose in 1995, has been variously described as Rose?s brother, half-brother or cousin.? Both came from Lafayette, Indiana, but they were actually unrelated.
? ? ?Before leaving to find stardom and strangeness in California, the future Rose, born William Bruce Rose, was friends with Hoon?s sister.? Hoping to emulate the local hero, Hoon followed the now renamed Axl Rose to Los Angeles in 1989.? The two met up, and Rose took him under his protective wing.? The budding singer was invited into the studio to add backing vocals on tracks for Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II.? He even appeared in the video for ?Don?t Cry.?? This fortuitous event set his band Blind Melon on their way.? Sadly, their short-lived career ? involving Hoon?s serious coke abuse, endless rehab stints and an arrest for indecent exposure onstage ? makes for one of the most resolutely doomed stories in rock.

RIP Shannon.

No they were not. Axl just hung out with his sister. And to the guy who asked about Shannon being Riki's assistant, yes it was true. Riki talked a little bit about it in one of his interviews with metal sludge.

According to a few sites (example http://www.rocknroll.force9.co.uk/faceHair/dead.htm) say they were cousins.

yep, they weren't cousins. read what GypsySoul posted.
Shannon didn't have a heavy coke addiction as it says there though. he was however heavily addicted to heroin, but ironically, coke is what ended up killing him.

I've read where Shannon Hoon never smoked a cigarette in his entire life. I found that interesting for some reason.
