Post by: Eric on August 19, 2005, 10:35:41 AM I've read where people said clear channel pulled the plug due to low sales, but I remember reading reviews of concerts that have come to Gund Arena here in Cleveland (where GNR played in 2002)-Gloria Estefan and Paul Simon come to mind-reviews said crowds were probably only a couple thousand-I'm sure the same with other cities for those tours-why weren't they cancelled?

CC probably, and with good reason, feared getting lawsuits issued against them. Everybody is suing everybody these days. Title: Re: Why did clear channel pull the plug? Post by: Sterlingdog on August 19, 2005, 11:36:33 AM I thought I read that Clear Channel claimed that Guns N' Roses actually cancelled the tour. I'm sure someone on here remembers better than me, but I thought it was in a email or something that said the band was cancelling busses and stuff immediately following the Philadephia show.

Post by: Kitano on August 19, 2005, 12:08:50 PM The article that rollingstone published about the tour stated that clear channel cancelled the tour because they were concerned about losing millions of dollars if Axl no showed for any more dates. It's a pretty understandable position for them to take. If Axl wasn't going to hold up his end of the deal then clear channel had to do something to protect themselves.

I swear to god that I emailed the promoter right after this happened, I was so angry how it ended after loving the msg show .. I never saved the email but the person told me they were canceling their tour buses and hotel reservations before the philly show and were not going to complete the tour.. I remember on the radio they were having a "fire sale" lowering the ticket prices.

I remember reading that as well and it still seems to be the most logical reasoning. Does anyone think it could be possible the no show in Vancouver was deliberate to get some press and hype going for the tour because the airplane troubles excuse Axl gave always struck me as far to coincidental for GnR's first tour date in almost 9 years. The circumstances surrounding the Philly no show are just bizzare..I dont think we'll ever hear the truth on that topic. |
