Here Today... Gone To Hell!

I haven't been this jazzed about an album coming out in a LONG time... Late Registration comes out August 30th, and I still listen to the first album regularly (way more than anything released in the past 5 years - including Contraband).  I love the new single, "Gold Digger",  I guess this is what Jamie Foxx sounded like in "Ray".

MTV just put up an interview with Kanye, and it's really good...

I find it interesting that he got over his homophobia after finding out his cousin was gay.  It reminded me of a small rant Michael Moore goes on in Stupid White Men, he prays for all the Republicans to get stuck with someone in their family who is gay (along with a list of other things), so they will change their point of view.  I'm not sure how many VMAs Kanye is nominated for, but I hope he cleans up.  I've never seen an acceptance speech better than his on the Grammys.

Does anyone have an opinion on Kanye?  Looking forward to the album?

It's also funny that it's exactly what Kanye was talking about in the interview... people going at him with the "you're gay!" insult.

I have the Common CD and it is really good, probably my second favourite album to come out this year.  It has one major flaw, it is TOO short (about 43 minutes?).  Anyways, Kanye's production is amazing and sometimes takes over center stage from Common.

Who you tellin' to shut up?  I am not sticking up for Moore but I am just saying that the gay and fat lines are weak.  So he's fat, your Mom probably is too.  I would have to say that Moore is more of a stretcher of the facts than an outright liar. 

The guy is on fire... In the U.S. he's got the #1 album (platinum after two weeks) and the #1 single with Jamie Foxx (two weeks on Billboard Hot 100 and a bunch of other charts).  The album is getting critical acclaim from pretty much every music review website.  He just annouced a headlining arena tour across North America with Common (who's album he produced which also went gold and got amazing reviews) and now to top it off he's the final opening act on the U2 tour... and he could've done it all without saying "George Bush doesn't care about black people".

So is anyone a fan?  Late Registration is easily my favourite album this year with Common's Be coming in a close second (Not to mention Kanye's debut only came out a year ago, he also produced John Legend's platinum album - this guy works his ASS off!).

I read that the guy broke into tears when he heard from the record label that his music isn't worth of putting it on the record..

Yeah, he's a rapper... but not in the "bling, hoes & money" sense...

He's confident & passionate about his music, I doubt he "cried" to a record label or anything, but he does feel strongly about taking so long to get support (which is understandable considering the music he's released and how popular it has been).

Maybe Axl should take notes from Kanye... right now he's shooting for 3 albums in 3 years (with a 4th already lined up), and each will certainly be a big hit:

While he has three songs finished already for his third LP, which he's going to call Graduation, West told MTV Europe that if he talks about what he's planning to do, there will be eight songs out just like that before he gets the chance. He compares the in-the-works Graduation to Jay-Z's The Blueprint, not for its sound, but for the influence it will have. He's hoping to have 12 songs on the album and put it out by the end of next year.

Maybe he should pace himself and then have one good album  - rap artists love their filler tracks, i.e Dr Dre's 17 an album :hihi:

sorry if you took it that way but it seems like ever after he said that the media has been all over the "race factor" in government, whereas i think it has much more to do with money.

You might like the album he produced for Common more than his own albums.  Kanye doesn't brag about gold chains, but he does let his cockiness slip into his music sometimes.  Common's rhymes seem more... "poetic" maybe?  It sounds really good mixed with Kanye's soul beats.

NEW YORK (AP) - Kanye West, with a crown of thorns atop his head, poses as Jesus Christ on the cover of the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone.

The outspoken rapper defends his brash attitude inside the magazine's pages, on newsstands Friday. He is also pictured posing as Muhammad Ali.

"In America, they want you to accomplish these great feats, to pull off these David Copperfield-type stunts," he says. "You want me to be great, but you don't ever want me to say I'm great?"

West also says his hit song Gold Digger was the best song last year and that it should have been nominated for the Grammy's best rap song category: "That's a gimme Grammy."

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old is nominated for eight awards, including album of the year for his sophomore album, Late Registration. The Grammys will be presented Feb. 8.

West has always been forthright in saying what he feels, most famously when he said "George Bush doesn't care about black people" during a telethon for hurricane Katrina victims. 
 
"If I was more complacent and I let things slide, my life would be easier, but you all wouldn't be as entertained," he says. "My misery is your pleasure."

The strangest tangent of the Rolling Stone story, however, is when West says he's addicted to pornography. He remembers first seeing his father's Playboy magazine when he was five years old.

"Right then," West says, laughing, "it was like, 'Houston, we have a problem.' "

He doesn't deserve to be crowned as Jesus. No one is but especially him.

I like the cover, it's a cool photo. He's got great songs, but his attitude kind of turns me off. It's one thing to be proud of your work, but it's another to be arrogant about it.

I was listening to Howard Stern last week and he mentioned in the'90's RS shot howard almost the same way, with the crown of thorns for their cover. The magazine thought it was too risky and decided not to put it out.

I think Kayne West is a little too full of himself and really arrogant. No class whatsoever.

i hate him, his beats are ok.... but his vocals/lyrics are so fucking annoying. He is incredibly overrated.

He doesnt do rock music, metal, industrial....hes crap and he does one of the worst styles of music ever imo, that makes me think hes even shitter than he already is, plus over hear in the UK he makes a load of money doing bloody remixing, half his songs seem to have other peoples songs in them, say like, through the wire (thats it name right?) speeded up version of whoever that woman is singings song. The trio of entertainers are set to perform "Run This Town," a song from Jay-Z's highly anticipated new album "The Blueprint 3," set for release on September 11.

The show marks Leno's switch from latenight into primetime; it will air at 10 p.m. EST five nights a week.

After crashing the stage during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards last weekend and numerous apologies for his outburst - stating he would "take some time off" to reflect - Kanye West will instead join Lady GaGa for the "Fame Kills" tour starting this fall.

But will the outburst hurt his ticket sales?

"I think this could potentially affect his upcoming tour with Lady GaGa," says a program director for a major urban mainstream radio station who chose to remain anonymous. "This isn't an urban tour -- urban audiences can be a bit more forgiving than mainstream audiences are. I can see him going on stage and people booing him. It's unfortunate."

But according to Violet Brown, Director of Urban Music at Trans World Entertainment, West -- who had the third highest grossing hip-hop tour Billboard has ever tracked last year with $30 million -- still has the potential to pull similar numbers on his upcoming trek. "His future sales will be all up to delivering amazing new songs and how he handles himself going forward," says Brown. "If he cleans up his act and delivers hot music, he should be ok. I truly hope that he is able to bounce back because our business needs the revenue."

Ebro Darden, Program Director for New York radio station Hot 97 (WQHT) agrees, stating "people who genuinely like Kanye won't be affected. Tickets for his GaGa tour go on sale in a few days and I'm sure people will be in the building."

Live Nation, the tour's promoter, declined to comment for this story, while reps for both Lady GaGa and Kanye West were unavailable as of press time.
