Title: Come On Come In & Contraband
Post by: tomass74 on July 21, 2005, 06:25:05 AM
I just wanted to know how the VR fans think Come On Come In holds up to Contraband. Right now it is my favorite VR track beating the whole Contraband album. This is how I actually pictured VR to sound and I think they have found their sound.. I think Scott wails on it and the lyrics are pretty cool. Dave Kushners guitar effects are awesome and he is really showing his part. I also love the solo and the way Slash was mixed in on this one. All his leads and fills are right in your face especially the outro soloing.  All of that was drowned out and barely audible on Contraband. Anyway, this is my favorite VR tune so far.. Here they are in order from Favorite to least...

Come On Come In
Loving The Alien
Dirty Little Thing
Superhuman
Slither
Big Machine
Sucker Train Blues
You Got No Right
Set Me Free
Illegal I
Headspace
Do It For The Kids
Fall To Pieces
Spectacle

Wow, you think Spectacle is their worst song? I think Spectacle is one of their best. : ok:

I agree about Come On Come In though, it's definitely a good direction the band is heading in.

I think the production is an awful lot better, its much easier to hear slash now.

I think its close to slither but not quite as good.

I'd like to hear some nice outros and intros with Vr, instead of having Scott sing over the guitar all the time why not just let the music take over eg spectacle

I'd put Come On Come In down the bottom end in a Contraband list i only prefer it to songs like Spectacle & Illegal I, it doesn't exactly blow me away it just seems run of the mill not to bad kind of song.

Two ways to look at it

Its your fav song cause its new

or A contraband song is the favorite cause u are more familiar

Come ON Come In is a great song, I rank it below only LTA and Dirty Little Thing and Do It For The Kids

great thing about VR is, each song has been my fav at one point in time.

they dont have just one great song, they all are equal for the most part.

very little difference in my fav to last song by VR

best song is a 10 but the worst is no lower than an 8.

If I had to choose a least favorite, which is hard, Id probably choose Illegal I even though I love it.

LTA, DIFTK,DLT and then Come On Come In.

in fact, it might be on the top along with Suckertrain Blues! : ok:

Slither is still the best song.

Slither - truly awesome live
Come On, Come In -  the future, rocks, great production
You Got No Right - could have been a classic
Dirty Little Thing - straight forward rocker
Fall To Pieces - have to be in mood to listen to, but still good
Suker Train Blues - great intro, rocks
Super Human - Great groove
Illegal I song -  great jam, especially live
Set Me Free - had potential, but tapers off
Spectacle - I guess this is their punk song if they have one
DIFTK - great, just don't care much for the intro
Loving the Aliens - not a bad song, just doesn't grab me like the rest.  Kind of like Don't Cry.
Big Machine -  the only bad song listed.  Slash's guitar sounds good (tone) but not much of a song.  its okay.

I was a little letdown with the new song. It's not bad, but it just sounds like a by-the-numbers modern rock song to me.

Nah, you can't get it as a single, but it's on The Fantastic Four soundtrack which I've seen available to buy from a few places here in Oz.

I just listening Come On Come In and i think Thank God that GN`R break up - the song is soooo boring, soooo familiar sound of 80`s and 90`s, soooo pointless. It`s a crap. Actualy i liked Contraband album with some reserve in my mind, but this song is total crap. If GN`R don`t broke up in midle of 90`s they would be fail like Metallica, Pearl Jam and even U2.

I have to disagree with you.
You can't know what kind of music GNR could have been doing if the original line up was still together, I even think they'd been doing great music !!!  VR has a different direction, I'm not going to defend them, I don't like it either but I still believe the original line up was the best.

And for Pearl Jam and U2... I hope GNR would have the kind of "failure" that you said those bands has !!!
U2 is the biggest band around and Pearl Jam is one of the greatest, maybe not too big, cause they aren't too commercial, but they are great !!!!

Failed like Pearl Jam and U2?
I've never seen a fanbase like Pearl Jam has. And they respect their fans probably more than any other band.

And U2 are pretty much the biggest band of the past 5 years. Plus all those other 5 years before...

I haven't heard this new VR song, but I heard a lot of friends tell me its terrible.
I hope they're wrong.

I hear the video is really bad too?

I think the song rocks. IMO Dave Kushner really shines on this song. His effects are killer. If this is any indication of the next album, i think it will top Contraband.

To-Mass,

I haven't had the chance, but I wanted to publicly thank you for sending me the mp3 of Come On & Come In.
 :peace:

as for the song, what can I say? Its grown on me like many of VR's other songs that I like now. It certainly has the energy approaching GNR when you first listen to it, even though the melody and the structure takes a while to sink in.
To add to my ContraBand review, I would give the song a 7.5.
I guess that would put it on average with a VR song. : ok:
Which means it would fucking rock my headphones at the GYM & before/at a party,.
Its amazing to me how very much intact the Chemistry of the GNR sound is among these players.

I would only put STB, DIFTK, Specacle (love that song now!) FTP, SMB, Slither ahead of this song.

Don't get upset because the song is terrible, its not my fault. I listened to the song a few times and its crap. And what did I say that was not true? All I stated was that Axl pushed slash hard and that is why slashs solos in old gnr were soo much  better.

So instead of attacking me why dont you just try and disprove what I stated. The fact is, the reason that you attacked me and not my statement is because  you know I am 100% right.

The song is awesome, like all of Contraband (bar one or two songs - not too fond of Illegal I).

But yeah, hopefully the next album will bring more of the same. And Dave, your opinion, like everyone else's isn't "fact." Some people like VR, and some people don't. Please just get over it and stop coming in here bringing up Axl/GNR when it's not relevant, at all, to the discussion.

You mention that Slash needs Axl to pull a great solo out of him. In some ways I agree, yeah, most of the old GNR solos were better than the VR ones, but that doesn't make me want to irrationally hate VR.

What about the other side of the coin anyway, that Axl needs Slash and co. to put a flame under his backside and tell him when to get on with it and record/release an album instead of swanning about ignoring the fans that put him on his pedestal pretending to be important.

Somewhere along the line Axl forgot that it's only rock n' roll. He (and his die-hard fans) seem to take the whole thing way too seriously.

that's horse shit.. Musical taste is all about the individual.. because you don't like it means about as much as me not liking one song from new gnr you love.. I simply said dave if you don't like the song then say it.. That's cool.. it's just you always fimnd the need to say oh this stinks or that stinks because axl isn't there to push them or make them work harder.. I happen to enjoy contraband like many others do, and I likecome on come in also..

Cool you don't like it, man not everything is for everyone.. Just no need for axl needs to be there to make everything you don't like become better..

I enjoy contraband it has a very hard straight foward edge.. I like come on come in, I like the vocals and the guitar..

it's not afd music, but very few songs anywhere are..

I saw this morning on an chanel here in Croatia.
Not much to say about the video,  though, considering someone said it is like Slither II,  must say they indeed seemed to have used Slither idea but unlike Slither,  Come on,  come in is not even close.
Very dissapointed! ???
I definatelly wouldn't like to see that one on next VR album although,  I am afraid that next VR will be closer to Contrabend then to Snakepit/VR.
One thing I am worried about,  Slash works never repeated themselves.
VR having Matt/Slash/Duff has too much talent to repeat itself...

Man i agree with you 100%. It seems everyone has or had a different favorite song at one time or another. Usually it seems there is atleast one or two standout tracks that is almost everyone's favorite song but it seems on CB that is not the case. My favorite from almost the first day i had gotten the album was Illegal I, Big Machine, Spectacle and LTA.  I havent listened to the album lately just a killer bootleg from the Toronto show, which if you can find it i highly recommend. It sounds like an official live cd, but live Do IT For The Kids really stands out, i am not a huge fan of the album version but live the song takes on a whole different vibe. The only track i have not liked from day one is Fall To Pieces. I think You Got No Right is much better. I absolutely cannot wait for album 2.

dave-gnfnr2k  - Why would Slash and Duff want Axl?  Axl hasn't released an original album since UYII.  I was in 9th grade then.  I am now 29 years old!  Slash and Duff enjoy releasing new music.  Axl is too slow for these guys.  Contraband was a great rock album and VR are great live.  I can't wait for the next VR album, which I gaurantee will be out before you hear a peep from Axl.  As far as I'm concerned Axl Rose is retired.

Come on Come In

In my opinion its the newest song and people were burnt out on Contraband so immediately they put it at the top.

U have to try to transform y ourself back to when COntraband was new and then try to judge your love for Come On Come In to the love of the songs on Contraband when u first got into them.

Like now, its easy to say I enjoy listening to Catcher in the Rye over November Rain.

thats only cause I wore out NR over the last 15 years so of course in the moment a newer song is gonna seem better at the time.

Kind of like Set Me Free, When CB came out, we already wore it out from hearing it on the soundtrack so it instantly dropped to last on a lot of people's list simply cause we were sick of it. but if u go back and judge, it certainly wouldnt be last.

Loving the Alien is still my fav, next would be YGNR, then Do It For The Kids then Dirty Little Thing and Come on come in fits somewhere between there and last.

My least Favorite is probably Spectacle also. I like it but something has to be last.

In my opinion, ''Come On Come In'' is one of the worst songs ever made by people related with GNR in one way or another. Definitly, the worst track of VR.

This is my ranking:

1) You Got No Right
2) Sucker Train Blues
3) Slither
4) Loving The Alien
5) Superhuman

and I dont like no more songs from VR.

Why is it that most people don't seem to like Fall To Pieces? I think it's brilliant... the riff Slash plays over the chorus is amazing in it's simplicity and fits the song perfectly. It's a pretty damn good power ballad if you ask me...

In my case, Fall To Pieces is just a good Slash solo and nothing more. Its lyrics are extremely poor and very repetitive.

Fall To Pieces is the perfect example of what it could be an ''Illusion'' song without Axl Rose/Izzy Stradlin brains.

So it's all about the lyrics? kay, I can understand that... I just don't really care about lyrics that much, never have.

I don't really understand what you mean with this...

dave-gnfnr2k? - Why would Slash and Duff want Axl?? Axl hasn't released an original album since UYII.? I was in 9th grade then.? I am now 29 years old!? Slash and Duff enjoy releasing new music.? Axl is too slow for these guys.? Contraband was a great rock album and VR are great live.? I can't wait for the next VR album, which I gaurantee will be out before you hear a peep from Axl.? As far as I'm concerned Axl Rose is retired.? ?

WOW when u say it like that........................

I was also 12 when UYI's came out and I am almost 28

If u had told me when I was 12 that Id be almost 30 before I heard a new GNR Cd............ Damn dude. Thats the first time, the reality part has really smacked me in the face like that.
