Title: Money ruining friendships Post by: Eric on August 06, 2005, 01:36:42 PM Have you ever had a really good friend ask to borrow money? Did they pay you back? Just lent a friend money, she's out of a job-said she would pay me back-I've known her for years, but I get the impression she is flat broke-it's almost to the point of where the money is secondary, but losing a good friend/friendship over this is more tough-thoughts anyone?

Is their a set time line for when she is to pay you back ?Or is just when ever? Title: Re: Money ruining friendships Post by: Eric on August 06, 2005, 03:27:33 PM No set time-she's had kind of a troubled past-currently in an abusive relationship-it's a tough one

Title: Re: Money ruining friendships Post by: Eazy E on August 06, 2005, 07:59:27 PM Isn't there a quote in the Bible about not loaning money to friends? I believe it's the 12th commandment... 11. Thou shalt not invite Lofters to "The Jungle". 12. Thou shalt not help a brotha out. These seem to be the easiest ones, and still people break them! Title: Re: Money ruining friendships Post by: Vicious Wishes on August 06, 2005, 09:03:51 PM Never loan more money than you're willing to lose.
Title: Re: Money ruining friendships Post by: St.heathen on August 06, 2005, 09:04:45 PM If you have known her for a long time and you aren't putting yourself out, then i'd say just help her out. ?That's not to say become a source of income for her lol you have to say no if it becomes a regular question i think. ? But we all get into times where we need to ask a friend for help. ?
My friends have always been cool like that and i have responded with the same kindness when they have ever asked. ? Money isn't everything see is it? ? How would it ruin your friendship? You mean, if she was unable to pay it back? Or just the fact that she is asking? Look at it this way: just give her the money. Don't expect it back. You can look at it that way if it's easier. If she says she will pay you back, then say thanks, but don't expect it back. How much money are you talking about? Is it a lot of money to you? (amount doesn't matter since it's all relative) or not much? I rarely loan money. I had a guy I knew I'd loan money to, who always paid me back. The guy made more money than me, but was bad with his money. I'd known him for 10 yrs and he'd helped me in the past, so I felt I could not say no to him. Even though he would pay me back, it seemed that all of a sudden I became the bank of Jason, always loaning out money to the guy. It grew a big tiring after a while and I tended to avoid him after awhile. Maybe let her know it is a one time thing and loan her the money. If you are broke, or can't afford it just tell her you can't spare to lend any out. I need more info to answer your question really. Title: Re: Money ruining friendships Post by: Eric on August 08, 2005, 03:02:21 PM It was a lot of money-not a ton, but something she probably won't be able to pay back (basically, her rent for the month)-boyfriend left-she has 2 kids-it's complicated-she came to me twice in a month-just don't want this to keep happening with this person-I love her to death, but I'm not exactly rich-like anyone else.
Title: Re: Money ruining friendships Post by: Mr. Dick Purple on August 08, 2005, 05:14:10 PM I've always done this, when I lend money to my friends I never expect them to pay me back or at least I don't go behind them trying to make them pay.
Cause whenever I need a favor they are always there for me backing me up, whether today I got money and tomorrow I dont have any, we always are backing each other up, and thats the way we resolve paying money problems we just let them pass and then when we need any loan they are there, I haven't got any problems with this guys and we know each other since we are 7 years old. now we are 25, so thats nuf said. :peace: |
