I do the same. I turn off the hot water heater too. I only turn it on 10 minutes before I take a shower and then turn it back off after I'm done. I am starting to carpool with my wife when I am able as well.

Too bad they don't sell more diesels here in America. We have VW, Mercedes, Dodge...that's all I'm aware of.

No, but I do try to save money.  So they kind of go together.

Actually I don't think I waste water, I live in Nothern California so conserving water has been part of my life forever.   I don't even think about it.

Lately I've had to learn to live with the thermostat set a little higher than I would like, but with this heat, if I keep it turned down the A/C would run 24/7 and I'd be bankrupt.

I wish I could say that I was very enviromentally conscientious, but the truth is I'm more worried about how much electricity and water cost me.

i take showers not baths...i rarely watch the TV...use the computer but i use a flatscreen monitor, uses 20-30% power of a normal monitor...the heating is off for  about 6 months of the year...i take public transport, always been that way...i always walk to get to where i want to go if its less than an hour's walk away...i live with what i need...there is no effort in this as ive been a minimalist for a long time :)

Hey Totally Buggin", if the toilet water is yellow then it's mellow if it's brown flush it down.

I always have good intentions of saving water by showering with my wife but she fails to see that this will save water for future generations!!

Well, if money is your motivator, it still does good in the long run right?  :)

I know what you mean about bills. I have the thermo set higher, for both reasons. Sure I could pay a higher bill, but it seems absurd. I about pooped myself when I saw my first one down here in Fla. It was 5 times higher than my bill in Utah!! But out west I also used a swamp cooler (awesome!!!) which used hardly any electricity.

Still though, I feel like the electric company has me over the barrel (which really they do) with these prices.....

Less give you more I think/agree.........I think we've spoken on that before in the past.... :)

I ride my bike to work everyday.  Kills two birds with one stone.  Also, I am a huge part of local beach clean-ups in southern California.  Also kills to birds with one stone: keeps the beaches looking beautiful, and allows me to surf in clean water.

I live in So. Cal.  I was paying my water & power bill the other day, and noticed this leaflet that came with it.  It states that the new projected power mix is going to use x3 more coal energy than before!  And they're decreasing their use of renewable energy sources.  So I sent an email off to them, and they replied:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your interest in environmentally-friendly renewable
energy. While PWP is not yet as "green" as we would like to be, we have
made a commitment that by 2010, 10% of our total power mix will come
from renewable energy and by 2017, 20% will come from renewable energy.
Also, during the energy crisis of 2000-2001, to ensure reliable low-cost
power, PWP signed long-term contracts that we are still under today.
Unfortunately, much of the energy produced under those contracts is
derived from coal-powered plants. That is why the Power Content Label
shows a higher percentage of power from coal.

Again, thank you for your support of renewable energy, and we at PWP
hope we too can earn your support as we move forward to meeting our
renewable energy commitments.

Thank You,
Customer Care Services

I'm wondering if Enron was to blame for "the energy crisis of 2000-2001".  I cant remember the gory details of what happened though.

I signed up for the Wind Power option which increases my bill, but now I feel like an idiot since it's a drop in the bucket compared to the coal usage.

I agree, but I feel that if I do what I can....I can sleep better at night.
