The media has essentially become a talking piece for the government. I know people hate the word propaganda, and references to fascism, but if it walks like a duck.......

News is only deemed worthy if it does not upset corporate sponsors upstairs I'm afraid. Fox did not run a story on the dangers of a growth hormone found in our milk, because they feared litigation. This is/was a public health issue...was it run? Nope.

ABC shot down a news piece about mercury in our immunity shots, even though there is overwhelming evidence that it is causing birth defects. It was feared that it would upset the big Pharma company that was responsible for the mercury in the shots. So, the story was redone, totally butchered and sandwhiched between ads by the same pharmaceutical company. Journalism at it's worst.

There are examples like this all day long.

The media was supposed to be for the people, but I agree it is a mouthpiece for corporate interests, and our government. All media virtually disapeared from the face of the earth when we went to war. Not one station went on the air and questioned our actions. Not one. They all rallied behind the president and the choice to go to war.

This has been discussed before and it is more obvious than ever. When you have half a dozen 24 hr news channels and they all play the same shit, there is a problem. And of course, the focus is totally superficial. All surface, shallow, trials, missing persons, right vs left spin, etc etc. It's all bullshit propaganda. For the people who don't watch news, they are distracted by sports.....

What is a true shame, more than anything, is that most people don't even seem to realize any of this. They just come home and let the cable news networks wash all over them and dumb them down.

it's wierd, cause even, at this scale, thousands of actors (=elements) are in the game, the power relation and personal objectives stay important.

thousands of people can work for a tv network, but the power is still in the hands of a few, and they this power is enough to play the game like they want.

wierd how this power struggle model that works for a small group of people (group of friends on vacation, a classroom) still applies at the HUGE scale of .... teh world.

I always wondered what the world would be like with no media.

I think the media causes more harm than good.

Just like with Columbine and the countless other high school shootings.

It seemed that one happened and the media jumped on it and covered it so extensively that it then seemed there was a school shooting every single week.

Which asks the question, did the media give troubled kids ideas?

They wanted to kill themselves but because the media made the other kids famous they thought "Fuck it, If I die im goin in a blaze of glory and with fame"


Same with terrorists, sometimes u wish the media would shut up about it.

It seems the bigger of a deal u make it, the more they get off on it and the more they do.

I think terrorism would be defeated through the silent treatment

u just ignore them and dont give them press and attention and I think it would certainly help the problem

they thrive on fear and when they watch the news and see how scared everyone is, it feeds their fire.

It wouldnt stop terrorism all together, but I think it certainly helps.

Plus the media gives terrorists Ideas. wasnt it the media who reported how unsafe and unguarded public transit was?

The internet has a true power to it, that is why government wants to regulate it. More and more people turn to the internet to get their news now. Also, the internet is a place where people can be critical of our joke of a media. They can speak out and make others (who weren't aware) understand how corporate media has ruined journalism.

Media isn't really held in high regard in this country. People trust news anchors as much as used car salemen.

Knowledge is power, and cable news, for example, gives you no power. It takes power away. It takes critical thinking away and replaces it with sterile, sensational, and censored material.

I hope like hell the internet remains free from any regulation. They will go after it under the guise of "adult content", that is an easy dining room table discussion to get people worked up (and drop their gaurd). "Save the kids" from the naughty pictures online, and if they can get their foot in the door that way, it'll knock over the first domino.

i was wondering if it would be a good idea for the media, each time there is a terrorist attack, to only tal about the victims. and not the terrorist.

you know. like just say ' 50 people died in london, ... and talk about the victims".

what if the publci never heard of al quaida or bin laden.
what if any terrorist attacj was blended ina  general "terrorist attack" and thats it.
and the audience trained not to care about WHO did it.....

The news is just a tv show. The news answers to no higher moral principles. If it can get more viewers it will.
