2m in the US, 6 million in the world. And that is good for a GHs album.

When you post news articles like this, it would be great if there was an actual source....

It's not on the RIAA site.

Yeah - they still record it as 1 million sales, but are prone to be out of date :P

billboard.com has it listed as #66

http://www.billboard.com/bb/charts/bb200.jsp?start=51

The Billboard 200TM
Top 1-50 / 51-100 Positions / Issue Date: July 2, 2005

This week: 66 ? Last week: 85 ? Weeks on Chart: 65 ?? Artist/Title:?Guns N' Roses, Greatest Hits ?*triangle* 2

*triangle* RIAA certification for shipment of 1 million units (Platinum).
Numeral following Platinum or Diamond symbol indicates album's multi-million level.

Gypsy note: ?the little triangle didn't copy & paste ?:-[
Does the band still get their royalties since they didn't approve this albums release? ????

Slash & Duff have certainly sold a few albums in the past 2 years!

GNR might be the only band that has a regular album, AFD, that's better than their GH's. that's odd.

I still laugh at all the people who moaned and cried about the GH's album. That album has turned more people onto GNR in the last couple years then anything else has in a decade.  :hihi:

The GH's album KICKS ASS! The tracklist isnt fat either , it's AWESOME!

AFD is close to 17m in the USA but the riaa still shows 15m. Gnr, axl or the label have to pay the riaa to certify the albums.

Title: Re: Greatist Hits Certified Double-Platinum!

FIRST: RIAA is always "late" concerning the certifications...
For exemple RIAA said GN'R sold 63 million albums worldwide, I think this figure hasn't been updated since...1995! Now in 2005, The real sales are about 85/86 million records?worldwide (with the GH).

For the GH I confirm it's double platinium in the US, and 6 million copies worldwide. Not bad at all for an album filled with 10 years old + of material, a small promotion, with no new material, no videoclips, no singles, no tour etc... It gives lots of hopes for "Chinese Democracy" when it's released. :peace:

ya im kinda the same way. the only reason i bought it is cuz i wanted SFTD on a GN'R album  ;D

Title: Re: Greatist Hits Certified Double-Platinum!
Post by: Rob on June 24, 2005, 03:00:55 AM
Yeah, I bought it basically to complete the collection and to have SFTD on an album.  I really don't listen to it that much, but I do appreciate how many new GN'R fans its made.  If only there were some rare stuff on it.

Title: Re: Greatist Hits Certified Double-Platinum!
Post by: Izzy on June 24, 2005, 07:05:53 AM
I haven't bought it - though i might eventually just to have Sympathy for the devil in a more accesible location (though i have the original single :D)

Edited songs and remastered tracks not endorsed by the band - not good

Title: Re: Greatist Hits Certified Double-Platinum!
Post by: Neemo on June 24, 2005, 09:37:06 AM
I didn't buy it either, I also have the original SFTD CD single. I remeber walking into the store and seeing it and I was like. "WOW, I didn't realize they had a new song."  I love their version I think it rocks : ok: I had never heard the original before and to this day I think the GnR version is better.

I can't believe how much the GH has sold. it's unprecidented. Even though Axl, Slash and Duff didn't want it released, it managed to peak interest for VR and GnR. Axl better use that interest to his advantage and releae CD soon!!!

Personally I think the track listing on GH sucks, half the tracks are cover songs!!! Is that what GnR is going to be known/remebered for to the casual observer?  I sure hope not!!!!

And about the covers, I think alot of GNR's covers are better than the originals ( KOHD, Mama Kin, etc. ).  Oh, and is" Ain't it Fun"  the only song edited on the GH?  It's the only one I noticed...

GN'R has been selling a lot of records/DVD's for 1 or 2 years.
Hope "Chinese Democracy" will be the summum (musically and commercially) of GN'R 2k. the potencial is here. The demand is here.

GN'R have enjoyed a renaissance of sorts in recent times - the big question will be if the name Guns N' Roses is as potent as a commodity without such key trademarks  ie.the original members figuring in the equation?

Yeah, there is a difference... but the figures are still wrong.  The Cheetah Girls haven't shipped 61,000,000 CDs.

Also for the GH figure to be right there would have to be about 3,000,000 copies floating around in the U.S. alone, and that's not possible considering its already been out for a year (aside from the fact that we KNOW it was just recently certified double-plat).

Sounds about right but as ever - source?

I'd imagine the figure is probably 2.5-3 million for units shipped - leaving about 500k to 1 million copies in shops/warehouses throughout the country

It's just a mistake by Billboard. On their top 100 albums chart-same website-it says certified double platinum by riaa. Indiana is probably getting his info from Soundscan which tracks actual sales. RIAA tracks shipments in the US. However, shipments are still sales to the record company because retailers have to buy the product from the record company. I wonder if the artist gets royalties as soon as the product is shipped? PILFERK-or would it be when the album actually sells at retail? ???

Yeah, there is a difference... but the figures are still wrong.  The Cheetah Girls haven't shipped 61,000,000 CDs.

Maybe the cheetah girls have been indeed shipped for many times but all drowned at sea.  :'( The ships carrying the millions of cheater girls got either wrecked in tropical storms or captured by pirates. Now they are floating around the seven seas. That's why the figures. That's why they haven't reached Izzy yet.
