Title: Please, no more covers Post by: Eric on July 09, 2005, 09:40:23 AM When and if they tour again, I'm in favor of dropping Live and Let Die and Knocking on Heavens door-I like the setlist the new band had during the 2002 tour, but I always skip these songs when watching the performances. There ya go.

If I could have my druthers I'd make them drop all oldies from the list and fill it with a whole lotta new songs. Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: MikeB on July 09, 2005, 12:38:29 PM yeah don't bash Eric for starting this thread, I know where he's coming from. I hate it when a great band has to take a song thats already popular and covers it. It reminds me when a remake of a movie is made that's already a classic.

Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: saint seiya on July 09, 2005, 01:46:22 PM ok maybe i should do the same because you say so... dumb ass
Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: Saul on July 09, 2005, 01:54:14 PM I wish for more covers please! Cover some huey lewis and the news!
Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: spuddy1 on July 09, 2005, 02:21:02 PM Keep live and let die but drop knocking on heavens door. Some people are really starting to spoil this board, there is nothing wrong with this thread so just ignore the kids who bash you. : ok:
Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: bad tripp on July 09, 2005, 03:32:16 PM I'd say the opposite and keep Knockin' on Heavens Door and drop Live and Let Die, i think their cover of KOHD is radically different from dylans original version plus when playing it live the whole crowd gets into it at the end which is infinitly cool.
Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: August 18th on July 09, 2005, 03:59:44 PM ok maybe i should do the same because you say so... dumb ass are you talking to me? why don't you go visit a beavis & butthead forum you little worm. Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: N.I.B on July 09, 2005, 04:21:37 PM no, Gn'R has done too many covers. I want more original material : ok:
Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: jabba2 on July 09, 2005, 05:49:31 PM I never liked the covers nor understand why GNR has so many of them. They shouldnt be on the records but there they are.
Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: ryan_of_lax on July 09, 2005, 06:51:21 PM Live and Let Die shouldn't have been a part of the new bands set in the first place. I never understood why that was such a favorite of the band.
Knockin On Heaven's Door is great though. Especially the "new" version. I'm hoping a lot of the old songs will be cut or played less often when/if the new band tours again. Do we really need to hear Out Ta Get Me and Mr Brownstone? Good songs... but move on. Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: Saul on July 09, 2005, 07:00:21 PM I hope they play IRS on the next tour. : ok:
Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: Dr. Blutarsky on July 09, 2005, 07:00:50 PM Second that, next tour I could do a little ?less of the old GNR standards and more new stuff / obscure classic GNR.
However, I am not against a good cover song done differently than the original. I'd like to see a big shocker , like for one night only they bust out "crash diet" with Buckethead doing the blazing guitar solo in it. :o Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: Carlos_f_Rose on July 09, 2005, 08:37:14 PM I like those songs, but only when the original band used to play them... with the new line-up every old gnr song, misses a part of their soul.... by the way live and let die and kOHD rocked in the past... now... its kinda different...

I saw both of those songs in person on the 2002 tour and I must say LALD totally fucking blew me away. Knockin on Heavens door was pretty good too, but LALD was one of the things I really remembered. The Axl screams during that song, live, were amazing. But I'm being biased cause I love the new band. The show in Cleveland in 2002 was the best concert I have ever seen, out of the many I have seen. And I would hate if they dropped Live and Let Die off the setlist when they come back around, unless it's for a new song that kicks some fucking ass. Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: Stones on July 12, 2005, 07:40:09 AM yup, the gunners write superb songs on their own... jungle, november rain, don't cry, it's so easy... not sure the need to do so many covers...? :-\

Botaxl Rose on July 12, 2005, 02:02:56 PM I've always thought that AFD Guns covering KOHD was a perfect cover song, as it fit their image & gave axl somewhat of a breather when all they had was AFD songs to play. I never liked the studio version much & LALD, i feel, really didn't need to become a GNR song. I was especially disappointed to see axl continue to play both of these songs in 2002. What do call call a band that covers cover songs?
Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: alternativemonkey on July 12, 2005, 02:15:39 PM Finally someone agrees with me on GNR and cover songs. Covers are beneath GNR. It is unfortunate thate four of the tracks on the greatest hits are covers. To forgo these songs while live would be a step in the right direction. Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: F*ck Fear on July 12, 2005, 02:19:17 PM I was never a fan of Live And Let Die by the old line up,but in 2002 the band did a great job on that song...Especially Axl screaming his balls off in it.
As for Knockin' On Heaven's Door,I hope they keep it in the future....Along with Jungle,Paradise City,November Rain, and Sweet Child....As for the rest of the songs in their set..I'd like to see all new tunes. Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: Neemo on July 12, 2005, 02:26:58 PM Finally someone agrees with me on GNR and cover songs. Covers are beneath GNR. Five dude, KOHD, LALD, AIF, SFTD, SIDHY If, they go on tour, then IMO they shouldn't do anything but new stuff, maybe a couple exceptions, SCOM, PC, WttJ & Patience. Besides when they first released UYI's weren't they pretty good at playing new stuff at the shows? I seem to recall reading that. Hopefully, there isn't any coversongs on the actual album when it's released. that's what I hope for. Title: Re: Please, no more covers Post by: jimmythegent on July 13, 2005, 05:20:14 PM Hasn't there been confirmation of sorts that there are no covers on CD?
anyways, I think GN'R certainly did their fair share of covers in the day |
