Title: Your car Post by: MadmanDan on September 21, 2004, 07:03:47 PM A lot of you people probably have cars and/or are interested in cars. Well here's your chance to tell us about yours. Give details like car type, top speed, engine size, horse power, etc, along with some interesting stories
I have an '81 Opel Ascona, witch I just repaired for 500 $(my parents were pretty pissed),with an 2000cc engine,90 horse power and a top speed of about 170 km/h Title: Re: Your car Post by: journey on September 21, 2004, 09:14:31 PM I bought my first new car last year. It's a Saturn Ion Quad Coupe. It's kind of a sports car, or it just looks sporty. I'm not sure about the horses in it, but it can reach a decent speed.? It's polar white, which makes it difficult to keep clean, but other than that it's great.

Title: Re: Your car Post by: Wheres Izzy on September 21, 2004, 09:29:08 PM I have a red 89' mustang gt convertible. It's a convertible and a manual trans. I had almost the exact same car except in the hatchback but it was stolen last may so I got this one. On account of losing a ton of cash because of this (didn't have theft) I havn't had the finances to do anything to the new mustang yet so it's still stock. Hopefully down the line I can play with it tho and try to get it under 14 in the quarter mile.
Title: Re: Your car Post by: Oddy on September 22, 2004, 12:57:19 AM ok i dont think anyone can beat me.
i have a 1981 Renault 18 GTS. Don't let that GTS fool you, its no sports car by a long shot. Bought it for $150 Australian. Um lets see its silver, dull non-shiny silver. i have plenty of funny stories about it, but they're too long. i dont really give a shit about it, i leave it unlocked 100% of the time, so my friends sometimes want to do "projects" on it. You all know those idiots that do up really crap cars, they go around in their hyundai's, well we decided to take the piss out of them. $30 later, my car had black racing stripes (some plumbers tape, trust me it worked really good), spray painted chrome wheels, grill, windscreen wipers. To top it off, the thing that pushed it into the boundary of hilarity, we made a wooden spoiler. Ok, we made it really really good, fuck i surprised myself with how good the spoiler looked, we painted it this metallic black with a couple of coats, bolted it onto the back and voila, the car was now sexified. most people couldnt tell the spoiler was made of wood, we made it that well. It was only after we told them or they came close to the car. it gets from a to b thats all i care about, and its mine, i earnt it with my money. Its not my parents car or my parents didnt buy it for me or its not from a bank loan. Title: Re: Your car Post by: Rocket_queen125 on September 22, 2004, 03:06:32 AM thats hilarious...
sum what similar to what me and my mexican buddy did to his fathers work car. 1980 sumtin corrolla (similar to this car in the pick)(http://images.autotrader.com/images/2004/7/26/160/227/949729121.160227021.IM1.04.565x421_A.562x421.jpg) excepth the body was rusted out.. my friend stephen is an excellent artist so he painted a mexican flag on the hood he then painted red white and green stripes down the car that ligned up with the flag and did sum excellent fancy mexican art work down the side.. We then named the car Rebaldo... later on that week we realized that the car wasnt sporty enough and wasnt getn the attention we wanted so we went and purchased a high powerd roadgear tape deck and installed that in the car. we then purchased a loudspeaker that we found at sharpless auction for 3 dollars and mounted it on the roof of the car then put a sunroof on the car... (bad Idea #1) then we thought that it would be best to rip out the interior, everything except the two front seats.. the door panels, backseat, dash, spedometer, carpet, windows, including the front window (bad idea #2) we then promptly replaced the window with chicken wire!!. later on that week we ripped out the door handles and welded the doors shut with small peaces of iron... (bad idea #3) Rusted car bodys dont weld tthat good and just made a huge hole in the side but it all worked cause the doors were locked shut for good now.. we then took are sombraros? idk how to spell? and took off for a joy ride to muscatine (overpopulated mexican community) where we would joyride around the mexican bars and taunt the mexicans with stephens dad authentic mexican music playing extremely loud over are loudspeaker.. we then were chased down by some mean looking mexicans in a rusty old tbird who then threaten to kill us but we i lied to them and told them my momma was mexican and the let us off the hook.. we then decided that it was time to venture home cuase it was getn cold and so we took off from the big ole town of muscatine back to our hometown of tipton and then it started to rain. so what should have taken us 30 mins took us nearly 2 hrs... plus did i forget to mention that we took off the exhaust cuase we wanted it to sound like a racecar (bad idea #4) the exhaust leaked up into the car and nearly killed us. later on that summer we thought we could enter it into the cedar county fair race but they turned us down and wouldnt even let us demo it so we made out own little racetrack int he back yard where then later on crashed it into the creek.. ps before we raced it we would run it till it ran out of gas buy one gallon of gas mix it with high octane boost about 3bottles pour a little into the carb and them put the rest into the gast tank nearly blew it... i i will get some pics of it for ya'ss Title: Re: Your car Post by: Sin Cut on September 22, 2004, 03:41:34 AM I got a red Mazda GTI hb '88, it got 150 hp (109kw) from a 2 liter 16 valve engine, my tops are 200km/h it would've gone a bit faster still, but my front shocks need to replaced to take that kinda speed.
Anyway it's not a sport car, but you can get past a truck fast enough, I'm planning to get a bike or a real sport car when I got the cash and this would just be my ride to work. And it's fun ride on the summer since it got a sunroof (electric) and all all 4 glasses work from push of a button, so that's cool :D Really, I should just sell it and get something more new with space for my dogs in the back. I am thinking about buying a Toyota Tundra. Any thoughts on the new Tundras? SLC, Q? You guys both seem to know quite a bit more about cars than me. I want a new truck, any advice. I dont think I will buy another american car; I am sick of my car breaking down after 20k miles. What about sudans, what would you buy if you were buying something new? Accord, Camry, or something else ? I had would buy a Toyota truck in a minute. They are just like their cars: run forever. My wife has a 97 Camry with 130k miles on it (We bought it with 33k on it). I have driven that thing everywhere: Grand Tetons, Park City, Grand Canyon, across country, tons of snow driving......you name it. It has never failed me once. The only thing I have done is maintain it (I do my own work) and replace a battery one chilly morning. It shows no sign of letting up. I bet I can get to 200k with no problem. I need to replace the shocks and tires now, but that is it. It leaks no oil, none. The engine is totally dry, with 130k on the clock. In fact, no leaks anywhere. Honda had a faulty tranmission that pooped itself in all models (including Acura) around 97-99 (you'll have to search, there is a petition online over it, demanding a recall). But other than that ONE problem with their ATs they are good as ever. I have bought and sold many cars, and the highest mileage and fastest sellers were the Hondas. I saw one with 333k miles on it and it ran like a top and looked new. I sold two that had over 200k, one had 235k and the other 210k. Both sold in about 3 days, and most important, screamed when I punched the gas and dropped the gear. Honda civics sip gas and are fun to drive stick. Accord and Camry both get great safety ratings and get good mpg too. Jettas are too much up in the air. Some are great, others SUCK. New Mercedes (can you say problems?) are being beat my Huyndais now as far as reliability is concerned. Huyndai is making a great car, from what I read, but I don't know anything about them really. Another great car I sold a couple of: Nissan!! I have never personal owned one, although I probably would buy one as my next car. The reason I like Nissan is that they all have timing CHAINS, not belts. Thus you skip the timing belt/waterpump replacement every 60k which runs 275-550 bucks (depends on where you go). On a 4 cylinder Nissan, you will never have to replace that chain. One less thing to worry about. Timing belts break all the time because people don't replace them, usually causing sever engine damage. Usually higher end cars go chain only. Anyway, unless it's changed, they use chains, and I like that a lot. One Nissan I sold, had 157k on it, and every single thing worked. I would not have hesitated to drive it across country. If you are feeling brave my number one sedan pick is the 96 c220. It is the most reliable Mercedes built since the diesels and can rack up serious troublefree miles. 93-95 had headgasket and wiring harness issues. By 96 they were taken care of. 97 was the introduction of the electronic transmission, and while that got awards for it's design, it also had a faulty throttle body whiched caused problems. The I-4, 1996 had the now bulletproof engine, and equally long lasting transmission. The car is slow of the line, but can easily go 100 mph once it's rolling, gets about 33-35mpg, has 4 airbags, and is solid as a freakin' rock. It can take a hit. Anywho........ My .02. Title: Re: Your car Post by: anythinggoes on May 16, 2007, 06:06:26 PM time for a revival i think
well time has passed the Supra i owned went away to london with some nice people once i found out the back Axle was rotten and the car was too dangerous to drive so i settled down and purchased a nice normal family car This one in fact a 2001 Renault Laguna 1.8 16v (http://i22.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/9f/3d/137f_3.JPG) Nothing was wrong with the car but i was bored driving it there was no excitement no class, i did some thinking and spent a while bidding on some 92 onwards Jaguar X-JS but was never successful in my price range, i considered 7 series BMW's, then one day it arrived, i work for a garage and we get trade ins all the time, normally they are standard boring (to me) family cars. But this certain car caught my eye and i knew i had to have it, as it growled past me, so after many negotiations with my sales manager i finally got the keys, every did and still does think im mad for buying this, even me sometimes but hey, what can you do. So this is it my new car, (http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j121/anythinggoes_album/DSCF0183.jpg?t=1179352926) 5.0 V8 Mercedes S500 Limo this car just glides, it weighs over 2 tonnes yet is limited to 155 MPH and 0-60 in 7.2 sec the other great thing is the tinted windows for xtra privacy. What year is it and I can tell you what issues to be aware of. Cheers im aware of the expensive maintainance, im a member of the Mercedes Benz Owners club plus im registered to 3-4 Mercedes forums, luckily being in the motor insdusty things can be so much cheaper, at the moment the car has no issues, but if and wen it does help is always at hand. Its a 1994 BTW Title: Re: Your car Post by: SLCPUNK on May 17, 2007, 02:31:48 AM If you are a member of those forums then you should already be well educated on that particular chassis and the issues during that year, they are well documented. If you use those forums and do your own work MBs can be cheap to keep on the road I think. I also think they are much easier to wrench on than other cars that cost much less. However, the new ones SUCK, period.
