I wanted to be a clothes designer at first...But i could make clothes quite easily and i got bored ( i was 9)..i then decided to become a ballet dancer and did ballet until i was 16, when i had an accident and broke both my anckles. I had to give up..

Nope, it's you instead who made yourself look the fool, because I was NOT referring to the statement you quoted.  I was adding to what Sukie said about SLC Punk's spelling, not replying to her.  In other words, I was telling SLC Punk that he needed to learn how to spell "you're".  I was not correcting Sukie.  He frequently misspells the contraction "you're", where he says "your" instead, including in several replies to me.  I was not referring to any reply on this thread at all.  SLC Punk understood exactly what I meant, because I've prodded him about it several times in the past.

Stop taking it so strictly.  "Everybody" meaning a lot of people, more so than any other profession.  You don't grow up and say "I want to be a cashier!"  or "I want to work at McDonald's".  You grow up and say things like "I want to be an actor, a rockstar, an author, etc".  There are thousands and thousands of people trying to become these things.  What are the odds?  The odds are that it ain't going to happen for you.

If I had a dime for every person I've known that wanted to be an actor, I'd be a rich man.  I've known people that were talented, and passionate, and thought they could get work, and guess what?  They're all working nowadays, but not as actors, and the dream is long gone.

Not only have i worked in the past, but i was trained to be an actress for 3 years in an excellent british theatre school, and got a diploma at the end of it that says " highly commended".
Since i got out, i was got very small parts in TV films ( like everyone who starts) but got as far as having a very good part in a TV period drama and a small part in a big screen movie.

Acting and singing are my reason to wake up the morning. When i was little, there were many things i wanted to do and i would have been just as happy to be a profiler, because i am facinated with criminals. As i am fascinated with ancient languages ( like hyeroglyphs)..

But i happen to want to give emotions to other people, i can't help it. And i want to be praised and looked at, i am naturally the centre of attention in my daily life.

I also talk LOTS, so i may as well get paid for what i do best : TALK.

I want to work in what i was trained for. I didn't say i want to be famous, because i couldn't care less, but i do want to be either on stage or in a movie and be proud to work in what i love most.

If i got a permanent  part in a european equivalent of the SCI series, i'd consider that to be success.

I have done 25 different jobs, from being a waitress, to being a personal assistant, to being a nanny and whatnot, and what i do best is ...act and sing..

I agree with you on that a 100%. It is a very difficult  career field to break into and be successful. You still don't have to jump all over someone for wanting to attempt it.  :peace:

Well, that's all good, and I hope you succeed, but just because you've got some credentials, doesn't mean everything is going to work out for you.  There's a lot of competition and there's a lot of people with more credentials than you, and there are people who are well connected.  Most times, even those people don't make it.  All I'm saying is that it is a tough business, and it's very unrealistic.

You went to school, but why haven't you done that much since then?  Older actresses have a tough time getting work.  If you truly want to be an actress, you have to find work.  It won't be handed to you.  Only successful actors are successful because they go on nonstop auditions for anything they can.


I understand that you want to be an actress, and you feel tha you have the credentials necessary to do so, but it's a tough business.  Credentials and even the highest motivation doesn't guarantee anything.

I'm not going to mention the titles of them here.  Not because they were bad, but because I don't want people here watching them and picking me out.  I'll just say that they've all been released to theaters (two of them had limited theatrical release, and one had major worldwide release), and one of the independent ones is getting its video release soon.

And (to tease you a bit more) I'll also say that one of them, I had a scene with Sarah Michelle Gellar.  I'm not going to lie and tell you we're best friends or anything (she didn't really notice me), but I was in a scene with her in the mainstream movie I did.

It's given me some more opportunities, not many more though.  I'm slowly working my way up.  Hopefully soon "Dizzy" will become a household name.   :hihi:

I don't yet have an agent though I did negotiate with an agent last summer.  I have currently found the opportunities are much greater in low-budget independent films, rather than immediately going after the big starring roles.  So that's what I've been focusing on, and slowly ascending the ladder.

Yes, actors work long hours.  On the second film I did, an ultra low-budget indie, we shot the entire thing in a meager 9 days.  We worked pretty mcuh 15-16 hour days for that period.

And I also want to clarify something: I am not currently making a living off acting.  It's a statistic that only 1% of actors actually make a living off of it.  Yes, that means all the stars you see on TV only comprise 1% of the acting community.  But it's still my dream to earn a living off it, and the opportunities increase slightly every day for me.  But until then, I have to make a living working shit jobs like everyone else.

Oh yeah, and I was not Scooby Doo, nor was in I that movie.  And I didn't get to touch her tits.   ;)

Dizzy, I gotta ask you:  did you ever consider moving to Hollywood?  Or does Hollywood no longer have the glamour it once did in the acting world?

Whenever I am in downtown, I end up meeting someone who came to LA to 'make it big'.

I'm not sure LA is the best place for acting really..From what i've been told of it in europe, seems like New York is a far better place, especially for people who swap between theatre and TV work ?

Over 70% of LA is apparently aspiring " something" and the other 30% are in ghettos, extremely poor, so poor that they way under the national rates of poverty.

As Diz said, there is 1% of people who live off it and these ones are crazy enough to buy some house for god knows how much.

The rest do waitressing jobs, nannying jobs, secreterial work or even get inside the skin of mikey mouse for the festive seasons and summer...How rewarding.. :hihi:

Diz, i don't know how old you are, but don't stay into low budget after 35, you may not get another chance to go higher up. Plus, i don't know if you disagree, but personally, i'd never piss on tv work.

No it still does, and yes, I've considered moving there.  The Sarah Michelle Gellar movie I did was filmed in New York City, and I love it there, I spent an extensive amount of time there, chasing auditions.  So did as associate of mine who works for the Virginia based production company with whom I am now involved.

But much as I love NYC and would love to experience L.A. and Hollywood, I am avoiding those places right now.  The audition lines are a mile long in L.A. and Hollywood.  I have a lot more opportunity in the level that I am right now, believe it or not.  Doing low-budget films which help me slowly gain valuable insider contacts.  The list of celebrities I've met is actually very lengthy, including one Academy Award winner (the legendary Mickey Rooney), and two Academy Award nominees, Linda Blair and Brad Dourif.  I've also met Alice Cooper.   8)


The problem is, everyone wants to "make it big" right off the bat without starting small first.  If you look at all the top stars, they all paid their dues in much the same way I did, they started small and worked their way up.  That's what I am doing now, and it's beginning to look brighter than it did when I started.

Another problem is that people have the huge misconception that the movie business = immediate big $$$.  How wrong they are.  Only the select few major stars get paid tons of cash.  People like me do it as a labor of love.  If you want fast cash, get your ass to law school and become a defense lawyer.


L.A. and Hollywood are where all the big stars film their movies.  Aspiring actors and actresses have about a snowball's chance in hell of making it there.  NYC is a better bet for theatrical actors/actresses and possibly TV work, but if you're looking to get into movies, I'd advise looking up your local independent circuits.  Some major stars get their starts there, including Sissy Spacek, who lives very close to me.

Spacek's goddaughter produced and starred in the last film I was in.  One night, on the filming night of a crucial exterior scene (I was in it!), there was a huge snowstorm, and Sissy Spacek actually called her goddaughter on our set to check on us.  I was standing right next to her when she took the call.

Plenty of other actors got their starts in low-budget indie films.  Anybody heard of a 1981 slasher film called He Knows You're Alone?  It starred Tom Hanks, in his film debut.  And let's not forget Kevin Bacon was the young guy who had sex and then got an arrow rammed through his neck in the original Friday the 13th.  Jennifer Aniston was in Leprechaun.  Johnny Depp was in the original Nightmare on Elm Street.  Sharon Stone was in Deadly Blessing in 1981.  The list goes on and on.


Yeah, same for NYC.  In any given hour, you'll walk past literally tens of thousands of aspiring actors, actresses, and/or members of some band without even realizing it.


Me either.  TV work is very grueling, longer hours, rigorous schedule.  But it is much more steady than film work.

To date, my only major TV appearance was on The Osbournes.  During the second season, some clips from the 2002 Ozzfest were shown, and I was visible in the crowd in one of them.    8)

I don't think I remember much before the age of about 10, so I'll start from there...

When I was 10 I wanted to be an electrical engineer, but after a while I found out that it would involve a lot of work and effort, such as going to University, so I abandoned that idea. I think I briefly contemplated becoming a fireman, but I didn't think in much depth about that.

I was pretty aimless until around 14, when I decided I wanted to be a builder, but I was quickly put off that one by my two weeks of work experience on a building site, making me aimless again. I wasn't even planning to go to college, but I did.

As I got closer and closer to a time where there would be pressure on me from certain people (parents...society in general) to get a job, I think I subconsciously rebelled against it all, and made absolutely no effort - as usual - to achieve anything, or find any sort of real focus in my life. Although throughout college I occasionally did things with a view to becoming a tramp one day. For example, I wore the same trousers every day, until they had huge holes and tears in both legs and the rear (my mum put a patch over that particular hole though), and the pockets had been torn out. My mum eventually caught on to the fact I was wearing the same trousers, and began to start asking for them to be put in the wash every weekend. These trousers were fantastic, and whatever image of them you have in your head now...they were probably much more torn than that. I do still have them actually, but last summer I decided enough was enough (read as: my girlfriend at the time made me buy new ones).

So anyway, I walked out of pretty much every one of my A level exams, when it became apparent each time that my fantastically low work ethic and high apathy levels throughout the last two years had rendered me incapable of sufficiently answering any of the questions being asked of me. It was summer, so I had plenty of pleasant and peaceful strolls home, if I ignored the busy traffic and fumes. I fully expected to fail those exams, but somehow I managed to get two Es and one D. Interesting fact: I got a U (fail) in three of the six Media Studies units over the two years, and yet I still managed to pass the subject as a whole, without getting particularly good grades in the other three either - one B and two Cs, I believe. The education system is a joke.

I've done nothing for a year. I was on the dole for a few months, but that was depressing, so I abandoned it. I went to one interview during the time I was claiming, and just lied when I signed on every fortnight. I figured if I was going to continue with my apathy, I may as well do it in an honest fashion, so I stopped signing on - although I lied about my reasons for stopping. I have considered a few options in this year, but mainly I've just sat around and been depressed, for various reasons, although I'm definitely on my way out of that shit now, so maybe I'll find something to do some time soon. These are the three main things I've considered since college:

1. Ski Instructor

Not sure how easy it would be to get work out of the skiing season, but I guess I could just come back to England and work at dry ski slopes, then go back out to Switzerland (or somewhere else with snow and mountains) for the winter. I need more experience on snow before I'm even allowed to have a shot at the base qualification though, so going down this path would be somewhat expensive. I'd get so much enjoyment from it though, but I would perhaps get frustrated by the lack of free time to just go skiing on my own every day instead.

2. Games Tester

I'm not sure how easy it is to find consistently available work in this field, but it would suit me to a tee ?:hihi: I could just continue being how I am now, except with a little more commitment and effort, and get paid for it. The down side of this is that I would probably slip back into depression, and ex-communicate myself from society even further.

3. Fireman

I think I'm regressing to my earlier childhood. It's possible that in order to do this I may have to learn to drive, so I'm already greatly put off the idea. Then again, I guess being able to drive might be practical for being a Ski Instructor too. To be a fireman, I'd also have to bulk up quite a lot, which I can't see happening ever.

To be honest, I don't want a career right now at all. Maybe I'll just work in a music shop or something. Seems most people are slaves to money and society whether they realise it or not, so I would initially feel uncomfortable with the idea of a proper income, because I know I'd get sucked in like everyone else, get into debt, buy things I can't afford and don't need, and end up feeling very frustrated. Eventually I'll give up trying to escape the trap everyone else has fallen/jumped with intent into, but not quite yet...

I had almost always wanted to be a singer, with a few add ons.

But then, my mother couldn"t take me anywhere without saying " come on jessie, sing a song for so and so".
I guess it was her way to be proud, but she did kind of disgust me from singing or from feeling i had talent, because i became a sort of talented animal in a family/friends zoo. It would still be this way if i hadn't stopped singing.
I did do an audition last year but failed because i was too old.

The same happened with piano. My mother took lessons and couldn't ameliorate, and her teacher told her i was extremely naturally gifted even though i had tiny hands ( which i still do). she would take me to tea parties and ask my brother to tell jokes ( because he is funny) and ask me to sing or play piano.

So i stopped piano so she'd leave me the fuck alone.

I didn't do this with acting ( and i had quit for 6 years anyway due to men making me come to auditions just to offer work in exchange of a fuck, so i prefered to quit and look at myself with honor)  , because i have a huge  fear, a natural block, so even though i am given roles like blanche ( i fucking HATE tenessee williams) by teachers who think i have what it takes to play her ( thanks to them, she is a fucking nutter, every actress wants her and i would raher go without) , i can't seem to let it out. I freeze in camera auditions and retreat into myself generally.

But i'm not finished and haven't said my last word, next step is a HUGE HUGE work on me with hypnosis, as soon as i have enough money.

I may have lost my chances to have a big career, but i can still have a smaller one and will try.

I use it as a form of therapy, ideas induced directly to my brain, sort of " reprogramming".

I was already under hypnosis in catharsis therapy with a shrink, it did work well ( thank you axl saying YEARS ago it even existed !!! i was SO uneducated really ).

Soi  can work on 1) gaining confidence in my abilities 2) the " what" terrifies me in a camera 3 ) pushing myself forwards instead of hiding what's good in me

I already did 10 years of therapy, but these 10 years were work on much more important issues, now, whatever time is ahead working on me, it will be to give me a good life, one i like.

The past 10 were to give me a life altogether.

I tried all the freudian shit, with a person sat in front of me with pen and paper going " huh huh" " huh huh" for an hour and ma paying a fortune to speak to myself.

Of course, didn't work.

Also, as surprising as it is, my father's not a midget. I do have a friend though who is one. Does that count?
