The singer will drive you crazy but if you can tone him out and focus on the music, there is some very good stuff there.

Go here and put in the name of whatever band sounds cool to you. Read reviews and pick the good albums. Also, ask the forum there, as they're more knowledgable of black and death metal than I am. Burzum's debut album (self-titled) is a good start to black metal, and Death's Leprosy album is a good start to death metal. They are my personal favorites of the genres. But Megadeth is thrash metal, and really not that dark. Sodom and Kreator are good if you like some evil thrash.

If you want to hear an album when you feel demonic or want to kill someone, I HIGHLY recommend Slayer's 'Seasons in the Abyss'. Its one of the best albums of the 90's. Go buy it immediately. You'll thank me for turning you on to it.
