Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Would you still frequent HTGTH and other GNR forums? Or would you forget about these sites and just move on with your lives? Could you still enjoy discussing GNR with fellow fans knowing that a new album wasn't coming? I'm just curious as to how you guys(and gals) would feel if we got bad news in relation to CD. Since alot of you think that the 'well is drying up' concerning GNR topics to talk about, I would like your opinions on this subject. Or lets say it does come out, but in five years. Can the GNR forums withstand that long of a wait? Or would the GNR online communities crumble?

Considering that HTGTH wasn't started until 1996 and the last GNR album came out in 1993 (not counting the Live one), we've been "HERE" for eight plus years without an album.? And even if Axl himself came out today and said that he would NEVER release CD, I think that would start up a whole nother set of topics to keep this site and board going for atleast another eight years!?? :yes:

it depends on your idea of what gnr is, to me it will always be the original band so i guess I would still frequent boards and stuff.
If CD never comes out im sure the hired guys would be leaving in mass cuz the proyect would be dead.

But Gypsy, all these years that the site has been here, there was always HOPE for a new album. If the CD rug got pulled out from under us, I think you would see a completely different atmosphere. If the wait goes on indefinitely, you will definitely see some sort of fan backlash.

I agree that there would be some fan backlash but there's always been fans coming and going, right?
But the main reason I think that this site and board would go on for a good long time is because of all the "conspiracy" theories that would start, i.e., Axl's just trying to throw us off!? He's ready to release CD so he's telling us he's not!!!? Why else would he have waited 12 years to say he's pulling the plug?

Yeah I see what you're saying, but those conspiracy theories would get old really quick. The next year is going to be VERY interesting. Not just concerning the state of CD, but also in concern to the GNR forums. There's gonna be alot of pissed off people when January 1 2006 comes and goes with no CD in sight. I really love this site, and Jarmo did an incredible thing by creating this site for GNR fans to mingle together. Every other message board pales in comparison to this one. And the other GNR sites are pretty good. But there has been a tremendous amount of pressure building in the GNR community for several years now. Something has to occur to relieve that pressure. Whether its CD release, a major leak of material, or at least a song or two on a soundtrack. SOMETHING has to happen, and 'soon'. At some point in time, Axl's fanbase is gonna explode. And it wont be a pretty sight when it happens.

I would stop posting, I don't see the point of posting on a dead band's message board.

Woody, I have to agree with you. I would probably stop posting also. I would check the site every now and then to see who's still here and to see what people could possibly be talking about. But I dont know if the board would completely die off. It would probably be similar to an 80's message board I check out once in a blue moon: A few people dreaming about the good old days.

Think how long it could go on just on how Axl would say CD is scrapped because he head that VR is breaking up and he wants to remove all of BH's stuff so Slash can be the new fourth guitarist?? :P

It seems to me that the level of frustration expressed by many members (including me at times) on this board already is "some sort of fan backlash."

Krispy Kreme, I dont consider are posts venting our frustrations to be a "backlash". If large numbers of people left the forums and never came back, that would definitely be a backlash.

I would still frequent the forum... Just for me I would consider new gnr to have neevr even happened.. Only a few people know it anyways.... No way I would give robin or tommy credit for 7=8 years in a band with no album.. if the album vame out in 2010 would I give them 10 years plus credit being in gnr?? :no: it's not a diss either, I doubt they would feel like they were gnr members either..

Once CD is released I'll post my review, and then, you'll never see me again on GN'R forums. This chapter will be closed.

if the album ever comes out the comparisons with vr will be endless and the forum will be so fucking annoying..

I come here for the love of the new songs and the band as well as for the love of the follow fans who support the same band. You know a friend in need is a friend indeed.
I might refrain from posting IF Axl should give up his ideals n ambitions of the band that polly all the members share and take the reunion path. Not in a least for disgust but for indifference.

Well, i think that this is the right time to release Chinese Democracy! Rock is back! Its almost as good as it was back in the beginning of the 90s! After 6 months of 2005 there has been released alot of Good albums by rock/heavy artists! This is the time for CD to show that GNR still is the BEST band in the world

I would still visit but I dont think I'll be a regular vister here and there if no CD was not to come out

Heh, I'd still frequent and post here. I love this forum! People still buy t-shirts from bands who are long gone, so why not stay on the forum even if Axl did announce that ChiDem would not be coming out!? Would you REALLY leave if that announcement was made? I don't think so. Not if you're a real fan. Real fans stay no matter what! ChiDem hasn't come out yet, and people are still here! Hell, the SITE is still here! Real fans stay. No Matter What.

I come to this site daily because I love and support both new and the old lineup, and think that Axl truly does have a brilliant album out there somewhere that he desperately wants me and you fellow supporters to hear when the time is right. Even when CD is out, I still will probably come here for the discussions and psycho-analysis of the album because I mean lets face it, If we can keep ourselves preoccuppied since 96 with no new music essentially, then following a release we will have PLENTY left to discuss. If Axl were to say hypothetically (I hope) that the album was scrapped I probably would be heartbroken to an extent but Id still come here still because I would be curious to see what musical projects and paths the current members would undertake.

If there is an announcement that Axl is officially retiring from music and has destroyed all of his music masters and copies, archival and whatnot, this board would cease to exist. Why? Because I will longer give a fuck about GNR, and will not come back here. This would mean no one else would.

I will buy  chinese democracy.. I wont download it or buy a copy of it... but do you think with all these things (internet and piracy) chinese democracy might become a success?

Ill be a GnR fan until I die,but honestly Id tone down my presence on this board serverely. Unless I was coming here for trading and buying dvd's and merchandise and stuff Id probably stay away. Because honestly GnR means more to me than the old band, the name still exists and if Axl never releases an album with the new GnR then it is truly dead.  :peace:

Some interesting posts, guys. I partially agree with all of you. There will definitely be alot of activity leading up to CD release. In the weeks(maybe months) after CD release, there will be a huge surge of activity here with people discussing CD. Lyrics,reviews, what the album means to them. After that is when fan activity in all the GNR forums is gonna die down immensely. People aren't gonna sit around waiting for the second CD. A possible tour wont keep people here either. Like I said in an earlier post, ALOT of people are gonna "move on". Its just a simple fact of life. Closure is gonna change alot of people's mindset.

To me the whole idea of a message board is to discuss news about a band that you like. If you are here for the past facts then probably there's another source for that kind of information. I would leave the message board if it wasn't to try to check what's going on with Chinese democracy

I think if CD was never to come out mental hospitals all over the world would be rapidly filling with GnR fans!
Really, if CD was never to come out, I'd probably still visit the site and the board to keep discussing GnR. There is plenty to talk about regarding the old band and side projects etc. But it certainly wouldn't be as often as I visit now.
